1) - VOICE OVER VIDEO – RICHARD – In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? · Videos that influenced your work: · Pond – You Broke My cool · Tame Impala – Feels like we only go backwards · Temples – Shelter Song · Conventions: · Tried to keep conventions the same · No storyline and why · Different effects and colours. For our media product we tried to develop the conventions of existing products. To do this we started by looking at different videos that would influence our work. These videos included: Pond – You broke my cool, Tame Impala – Feels like we only go backwards and Temples – Shelter Song (show videos in brief). Once we had looked at these videos and analysed them we picked out common conventions. The first thing that instantly jumped to our attention was lack of narrative. The videos all had performances and extra video added but none of them had a strait forward storyline that you could follow that told a clear story. Listening to the music though this is not surprising as both the songs and the bands sound as a whole is up for interpretation, which lets the listener decide what the songs are about, rather than the band telling the listener a story. We kept to this convention by using a very basic setup in the studio for the performance-based part of the video, then using very dynamic shots of landscapes etc using different effects to add the interpretive narrative that we found in some of the videos we looked at previously. Another convention we found was displayed in the videos we where inspired by was use of lighting and lighting effects to add a surreal feel to the video. We developed this by using studio lights and light effects in postproduction to add an atmosphere and an artistic spin to the shots. ( this can be seen …….. where ……. And another example being …….. which…….)

1)     - VOICE OVER VIDEO – RICHARD –In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

·       Videos that influenced your work:·       Pond – You Broke My cool·       Tame Impala – Feels like we only go backwards·       Temples – Shelter Song

·       Conventions:·       Tried to keep conventions the same·       No storyline and why·       Different effects and colours.

( this can be seen …….. where ……. And another example being …….. which…….)

In terms of similarities to our product and the average pop video, there isn’t many but that’s what we set out to achieve so I feel we have achieved that aspect of our goal for our video. The average pop video could be described as advertising for the artist to sell records, but I feel our video is quite the opposite of that and is there to purely enhance the listener’s experience of the song. This is done by visually intriguing shots, which allow interpretation of the lyrics of the song.
