evaluation question 2

HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE
COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN
PRODUCT AND THE
ANCILLARY TEXTS
EVALUATION QUESTION 2:
What is our main product? A 5 minute social realism film.
What is our short film about? Our short film is about a relationship between a young naive girl and a mature man. Their relationship begins as nothing more than a friendship, until the man becomes more sexual, demanding the girl to send him inappropriate images. She is
scared and vulnerable so sends the images, the consequences however are more harsh then she initially
realised as the man refuses to leave her alone. If she doesn’t do as he asks, he threatens to send the images to her mum.
What are the ancillary tasks? A film poster for our five minute short film A magazine film
review suitable for a double page spread.
• One large image• A colour palette relating to the atmosphere • Actors and directors names • Large film title.
WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE NECESSARY TO RESEARCH INTO EXISTING PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET TO GIVE US AN IDEA.
CONVENTIONS OF A FILM POSTER
Having a slogan in a film is important as it can sell the film, it needs to be short,
snappy and memorable. Having it in a simple font at the top of the page means it doesn’t
distract away from the main poster but is still recognisable.
The actors names are usually
displayed at the top of the page, I
decided to stick to the generic idea and leave it as a simple
font. The main image is red and has
incorporated a vector of a man and
a girl into one image, it strongly
represents the relationship
between the two characters and how ‘Chloe’ and ‘Scott’
are becoming a part of each others lives. The title is simple but eye catching. It is in proportion with the
main image and stands out against the off white background.
Even though it is a generic font I feel that it is all that is needed
to display the film title.
The billing board is typical of all film posters, I left it at the bottom of the page like they usually are to represent all the characters
and producers names.
I like the contrast of the black and the red with the off
white background. The three colours compliment each other as well as
being quite harsh, reflecting the harsh
realities of child grooming and the
dangers that comes with talking to people online.
• Text laid out in columns • Text is creatively written • Various images • Name of the film • Quirky design • Numbers in corners
AGAIN WE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE NECESSARY TO RESEARCH INTO EXISTING PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET TO GIVE US AN
IDEA.
CONVENTIONS OF A FILM REVIEW
The main banner of the review is typical of a film review, the image that we used at the top of the film reel links with the idea of a
‘film review.’
Having the title bold is important as it needs to
catch the attention of the audience, the bold writing and white font on a black background allows it to
stand out.
Images are important to incorporate in the
review so the readers can gain a visual image
of the film. This is a screenshot taken from our film and because it
is of a phone, it links with the film title (SMS)
and what the film is about.
Again we used an image of the main character
of the film, it doesn’t take up
a lot of space but again shows
a vulnerable young girl
texting.
I feel that having a film rating in stars is important in showing off
the film. A lot of readers will instantly been drawn to the rating and not read the review to know whether or not to see the film so
having it easy to find and stand out is important.
The text is generic to a film review and easy to read, this is important so the readers aren’t put off by
reading the chunk of text. Black text on a white
background again makes it easy to read.
I often see the first column based on a
different colour, I wanted to do this subtly so
added a grey so the readers know where to start.
The beginning sentence sticks with
the colour scheme and the big first letter
creates a bold statement that’s
typical of film reviews.
An image of the film poster is
important so it will be recognised if
they see it advertised.
FILM POSTEROur film poster doesn’t give to much away, it subtly hints to the audience what the film is about. It makes them want to know what happens and how the story will unwrap and develop.
FILM REVIEWOur film review clearly represents the opinions and feedback that our film received, it told the audience about the film without giving too much away, we included a star rating as well as images which finalise the review and make it look professional.
FILMThe film is our final product that we successfully filmed and edited together, I believe our film poster and review successfully represented our film and advertised it well.
