It is extremely important that the completed main product,

(the music video) and the completed ancillary texts (the digipak and advert) combine suitably to create an effective brand style/identity which can be recognised by an audience,

or a fan of the artist being promoted.

I have included some recurring motifs throughout my music video and ancillary projects. These motifs are important as they make the link between the products clearly evident. A motif found in my music video and ancillary products is the Girl (the main artist) and the Werewolf characters. Initially I did not plan for these characters to be a recurring motif, but just the characters in the music video. However, during the planning process of creating my digipak I realised there was not a clear enough link between the video and digipak and therefore decided to include the Werewolf character as well as the Girl (who was already featured in the ancillary products as she is the main artist).

Another recurring motif featured in my music video and digipak is the Wanted Poster/Origami Heart props. The poster is a key element in the narrative of my music video so I decided to include a collage of the poster and heart inside the digipak underneath where the disc would be positioned.

Here are screen grabs taken from points in my music video where the Wanted Poster and Origami Heart are featured, and how I used them on the CD panel of my digipak.

There is also a recurring motif which I developed across my digipak and advert. This is the location where the photographs were taken. I used a completely new photo when creating the advert compared to the photos I used in my digipak, but it is obvious it is the same location used creating a sense of familiarity for the audience, especially as I used the same graphics on top of the photos as well. The link between the digipak panel and the advert is made very clear by this use of graphics.

I have constructed a brand style which would easily be recognisable by the artist’s fan base and audience. This brand style is a ‘sketchy’ and ‘illustrated’ theme. I have expressed this theme through my use of graphics on the digipak and advert and the ‘handwritten’ ‘sketchy’ typeface style used across all of the products.

I created a distinctive logo for the band which is featured on all products in my promotional package. I then used an extremely similar style when creating the album title.

I created a natural ‘hand written’ style for the text used in my digipak. This compliments the bold band logo and title as they all visually look similar.

The title I created for the song itself is in the same style as the band logo, just not as bold as it will only be featured on the music video.

My chosen use of text style compliments the graphic elements across my promotional package and solidifies a recognisable brand identity. Here are examples of the graphics I have used across my promotional package, in my advert, digipak and music video.

Through my chosen costume and image styling of the main artist, I have created a style which the audience and fans of the artist can identify with. This style remains the same throughout the whole of my promotional package as the artist is wearing the exact same clothing, hair and make-up style in the music video, digipak and advert. This style is very fitting to the genre of the music, Alternative Rock, as the artist is wearing clothing brands associated with Rock genres and dark colours which is what would be stereotypically expected of a Rock musician. She is also wearing darkly coloured heavy eye make-up and has darkly coloured hair, making it extremely clear she is a Rock musician. Fans of the musician would identify with her image and dress similarly, particularly by wearing the same brands such as Doc Marten boots which is what the artist is wearing.

I think that my overall complete promotional package is very effective and successfully promotes the upcoming artist. I have made clear links between themes in

my music video and elements of my digipak and advert. I have also created a

recognisable brand identity which is evident across all of the products in the

promotional package. I have developed a strong artist identity which is appropriate

to the genre of music and would be identifiable with the audience and fans of

the artist.
