Page 1: Evaluation Question 2) Baura B

Q2) How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Page 2: Evaluation Question 2) Baura B

Our media product represents young adults in our society. We chose “gender” and “age” from the list because we wanted to create a film in which young adults have a different role from the classic films. Our actors are all around the age of 20 years and represent age and gender in our society.

Rita Adams represents a young woman, who wants to succeed in

her life and career and goes to any length to achieve her goal. She is represented not like women in classical thrillers (young, blonde, weak and dependent on the strong) but takes a completely different role. She is strong, independent and smart. This is shown in many ways in the film. A low angle shot shows her standing over her apparently dead husband which implies that she has power over him. She even steps over his legs which means she would literally “step over bodies” to achieve her goal. This attitude is very careless and selfish and can be seen very often amongst young adults nowadays. This attitude is represented in many real media products like the film “The devil wears Prada”. The way she dresses smartly shows as well that she is smart, strong and feminine at the same time.

All the actors represent young age in the film. Rita’s young age is shown by her look: her long shiny brown hair, her perfect makeup, her high heels and the purple nail varnish. Rita and Richard show how the youth today is just focused on themselves. The careless and selfish behavior is reflected in Rita and Richard Adams who both try to kill each other. Our film could even be seen as a production that presents morals as well as entertainment. Rita, who is selfish and deceiving tries to kill her husband but is kidnapped later by her husband’s employee. This shows that her careless behaviour led to her own failure and she has to bare the consequences.
