Evaluation Question 3

‘What have you learned from your audience feedback?’

By Poonam Parmar

Page 2: Evaluation Question 3

• In the research and planning stages of our documentary production, we used questionnaires online and hand outs creating a small pilot study to find out information about the target audience we wanted to aim our documentary towards to get a better understanding of our audience.

• We asked a mixed gender between the age range of 16- 35.

• This helped us identify the majority’s opinion – highlighting that there are people who need to be informed about how Social Networking is taking over the media.

• I feel that having collected all of our audience feedback from research & planning stages it influenced the direction of our documentary.

• By combining all research of target audiences and the questionnaire feedback as well as the facts & statistics of the secondary research from various different sources, this enabled us to represent a relatively balanced argument on a debatable issue as many people had opinions on the matter.

• The questions worked well towards our advantage as we gained honest opinions about the products.

Research & Planning Stages‘What have you learned from your audience feedback?’

Page 3: Evaluation Question 3

• According to our results of what audiences wanted to see was; people knew a fair bit about Social Networking but still 33% did not know the impacts it is having.

• We also found out the main conventions that they want to see, such as expert interviews, well researched voice over, facts and attracting music.

• Following on from this, we decided that using questionnaires would be the most suitable way of gaining feedback from our documentary, radio trailer and magazine article.

Research & Planning Stages

• Before we started constructing our products we had to ask the audience what they would like to see and what they already knew. We did this and the made graphs of what people thought. But also from our findings we spoke about what we found.

There were some weaknesses to do with the documentary, 10 people answered YES and 2 with no and 3 with no answer. Many people said that the sound levels had a few problems in comparison to the actual documentary voice over. This is something we would have to change.

• In conclusion, through the research & planning stages and the evaluation I have learnt many methods to target my intended audience. I have learned various topics about our chosen issue – Social Networking, but also the improvements we could make within the final product.

• The majority of the feedback we gathered was good and did attract them to watch/ read the products. We have also had some constructive criticism that evokes the weaknesses within the products.
