As part of our research and planning for the production of our documentary, we created questionnaires to see what our target audience knew about the topic and what they like to see in documentaries about university fees. The students we asked we between the age of 16 and 18 and in the majority of their responses they said statistics, stock footage, a variety of shots, a voiceover, music and expert interviews. We included all of these factors and many more to satisfy our viewers. Once our documentary was complete along with the double page spread and radio trailer we put together a questionnaire based on the documentary, double page article and radio trailer to see whether our documentary was suitable for our target audience.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much did you enjoy our documentary?

When we asked our target audience of how much they enjoyed our documentary, the majority of them aged between 17 and 18 gave it a positive answer of 9 or 10. This was a good start as it indicated we had created a documentary up to their expectations compared to a professional one.

How professional does our documentary look?

We asked how how professional they thought our documentary was and again we had a positive response with the majority answering ‘very’. This also indicated to us that we had followed all the typical documentary conventions and took into consideration of what our target audience expected.

Were there enough shots to keep you entertained?

When students were asked whether they felt there were enough shots to keep them intrigued in the documentary, everyone said yes which was very encouraging for us as we knew our documentary consisted of a variety of shots which is a main documentary convention.

Did the music contribute positively to the documentary?

As we created our own music for our documentary, we asked if the audience felt it contributed well, again everyone gave an confident response of ‘yes’ which also indicated we had created an appropriate piece of music in order for our

documentary to sound and look professional.

Was the voiceover informative enough?

For our documentary, one of our group members volunteered to do the voiceover which we recorded in the recording studio. This was for clarity purposes and for it to sound more professional. We asked it the audience felt it was informative enough, and again, they all said ‘yes’ which meant we had included enough research and statistics to inform them of the rise in university fees.

Do you feel like the interviews contributed appropriately to the documentary?

We then asked if they felt the interviews contributed well and appropriately towards the documentary, again we had a highly positive response as they all said ‘yes. This indicated to us that we had chose the right people to interview who had enough knowledge on the topic of university fees for them to give detailed responses to the questions they were being asked.

Do you feel like you learnt much throughout the documentary?

We asked if they felt they learnt much throughout the documentary, 69% responded by saying relatively and 31% said very which is still a positive outcome and shows we included new research and statistics which they are now aware of most they need to know about university fees.

Radio TrailWe asked varies questions about our radio trailer to find out whether our target audience liked it.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how much did you enjoy our radio trail?

How professional does our radio trail sound?

We asked on a scale of 1-10 of how much they enjoyed the radio trail, we had a mixed response to this but the majority giving an average 7. this was still positive for us, however I feel that we should have had more voiceover and less documentary extracts but I feel we still have a professional radio trail. We also asked how professional they thought our radio trail was, we had a good response as 50% said very and 50% said relatively. This was still positive as we were able to see that we still had a very good radio trail which sounded professional.

Did the music contribute positively to the radio trail?

When we asked if the music contributed well towards the radio trail, the majority responses with yes and only one said no. this was encouraging for us as it indicated we had followed the radio trail conventions.

Were the snippets from the documentary appropriate?

We asked if they felt the snipped used in the radio trail from the documentary were appropriate, they all answered yes which showed we had used the right extracts to advertise the documentary and also gives a very promising outcome.

Does the radio trail make you want to watch the documentary?

When we asked if the radio trail made them want to watch the documentary, they all replied saying yes except for one person, this is very encouraging and it indicated to us that we have a professional radio trailer and also shows we had followed the majority of the conventions in order to keep it realistic.

Double Page SpreadOn a scale of 1 to 10, how much did you

enjoy our double page spread?How professional does our double

page spread look?

We asked our audience on a scale of 1-10 how much they enjoyed our double page spread. We got a mixed response from this but was still positive for us as the majority rated it 9. We also asked how professional they thought our double page spread looked, again there were a mixture of responses but the majority replied with very and relatively. This indicated to us that we created a professional looking double page spread and followed the codes and conventions.

Do you feel like there was an appropriate amount of text?

We asked if they felt there was an appropriate amount of text on the double page spread, most people said yes and some said no, this was because they felt there were too many wide gaps between images and paragraphs which made the article look a bit empty.

Does the house style fit with the documentary?

When we asked if the house style matched the documentary, the majority said yes with two people saying no. This was still a positive outcome for us as we felt we carried on following the house style in order for our documentary to be recognized.

Was the overall aesthetic eye-catching?

We asked if the overall aesthetic was eye catching and the majority again said yes. This was encouraging as it showed we had made sure it was appealing to our target audience and also included all the information needed along with the conventions.

Does the article make you want to watch the documentary?

We asked if the article would make them want to watch the documentary, again the majority answered yes. This was very good feedback for us as it conveys we followed all the conventions and showed we took into consideration what we found in research and planning. This also indicates how well we promoted the documentary through the double page article.
