evaluation question 3

Evaluation Question 3: What have you learnt from your audience feedback? When it comes to the ‘ad campaign’ for a film (regardless of the genre), it is important that the audience feedback is very positive. In order to do so, the people in charge of the ‘ad campaign’ would release a teaser trailer or poster first to see how the target audience would respond to the premise. For example, the original teaser trailer for ‘The Woman in Black’ was received well by the target audience due to its chilling visuals and Daniel Radcliffe’s portrayal of the lead character. In fact, Daniel Radcliffe was able to attract a lot of ‘Harry Potter’ fans to the film due to his appearance in the film franchise. My group and I were able to gather feedback for our trailer from our classmates during a screening of each of our horror trailers. We were able to receive feedback from our actual demographic since our classmates are all in their late teens. Prior to the screening, we also sent out online surveys about our film’s plot as well as questions about which film genres the audience prefers and whether or not they would go and see the film. Our trailer feedback was mostly positive and we received some good points for what we could do to improve it. For example, our classmates pointed out that our trailer did not have an impressive climax, resulting in a portion of the trailer where everything went quiet before the title. We have since improved this and added a scene where one of the main characters is seen beating an unseen victim to death. We also received feedback detailing that our soundtrack was not very enthralling and there were not so many sound effects as a real trailer. We have also remedied this by adding a voice over of the film’s setup, more titles and a more exciting ambience track. (Please see video below).

  • Evaluation Question 3: What have you learnt from your audience

    feedback?

When it comes to the ad campaign for a film

(regardless of the genre), it is important that

the audience feedback is very positive. In order

to do so, the people in charge of the ad

campaign would release a teaser trailer or

poster first to see how the target audience

would respond to the premise. For example,

the original teaser trailer for The Woman in

Black was received well by the target audience

due to its chilling visuals and Daniel Radcliffes

portrayal of the lead character. In fact, Daniel

Radcliffe was able to attract a lot of Harry

Potter fans to the film due to his appearance in

    the film franchise.

My group and I were able to gather feedback

for our trailer from our classmates during a

screening of each of our horror trailers. We

were able to receive feedback from our

actual demographic since our classmates are

all in their late teens. Prior to the screening,

we also sent out online surveys about our

films plot as well as questions about which

film genres the audience prefers and

whether or not they would go and see the

    film.

Our trailer feedback was mostly positive and we received some good points for what we

could do to improve it. For example, our classmates pointed out that our trailer did not have

an impressive climax, resulting in a portion of the trailer where everything went quiet before

the title. We have since improved this and added a scene where one of the main characters

is seen beating an unseen victim to death. We also received feedback detailing that our

soundtrack was not very enthralling and there were not so many sound effects as a real

trailer. We have also remedied this by adding a voice over of the films setup, more titles and

a more exciting ambience track. (Please see video below).

  • As for my poster, my original design was very

minimalist and depicted one of the main characters

in our film standing by his own memorial on a

snowy day. This poster was received well but I was

informed that it did not give much information on

the rest of the main characters or the premise. My

second poster however included images of all three

of the main characters standing together, including

a more defined tagline and a prop which connoted

the religious aspect of the film.

And finally, for my magazine cover, I was informed

that my font choice for the masthead and the

graphic design were applied well. However, I was

told that my cover lines were plain and could have

included more detail like with the rest of the cover

    text.
