Evaluation Question 4

How did you use digital technology in your

production?

Page 2: Evaluation Question 4

Adobe PhotoshopI used adobe Photoshop for the production of my ancillary task 1- poster. I had previously used the software due to using it in AS Media Studies. This allowed me to get on straight away with my poster as I knew exactly what I was doing without any problems occurring. I knew exactly how to use all the effects and tools which made my poster to be made to my best ability. I used Photoshop for my poster as It had the tool to allow me to cut out images which I needed to do for my main image for my poster. I had used Photoshop in the past to make a music magazine cover but I had never used Photoshop to make a film poster. The software allowed me to use effects in which I found useful for my poster. I decided to do the whole of my poster in black and white which odd parts of red text. This meant I had to cut out my central image and play with the effects to fade the image and also set it to black and white. Finally the software allowed me to produce a JPEG file at the end which I could then use to put onto my blogger.

Adobe InDesign I used adobe InDesign for the production of my ancillary task 2- double page spread. I had previously used the software due to using it in AS Media Studies. This allowed me to get on straight away with my double page spread as I knew exactly what I was doing without any problems occurring. I decided to use InDesign as it allowed me to produce a flat plan of my double page spread. This made it easier for me to place all of my text and images onto the worksheet as it was already previously laid out. The software also allowed me to arrange my images to how I wanted them to look and also align my text in columns to make it look professional. Finally the software allowed me to produce a JPEG file at the end which I could then use to put onto my blogger.

Final Cut ProI used final cut pro for the production of my short film. I had never used final cut pro before so I found it hard to use as it is a complicated piece of software. However it was the software I needed to use to produce the best editing of my film possible. After playing around with a few scenes and editing them it started to become clearer on what needed to be done. The software was used to put all of the clips which were filmed together and either lengthen them, shorten them or add filters to the clips. For our first production of the film ‘Zombi’ I decided to use the blue screen option on final cut pro. Using this allowed me to drop an image in the back of the clip and add filters to make it look better. However, for the new short film ‘Iron Stone’ I decided not to use the blue screen as there wasn’t any scenes which required the blue screen and it also cam across to be too complicated and time consuming. In the end, I found that the software was well worth all the stress from the complications as it allowed me to produce the best editing skills which I wanted in my film.

Garage BandAnother programme which I used for the production of my short film was Garage Band. I had previously used the software before creating the short film as I had made soundtracks and radio trailers previously in lesson. The software allowed me to use the correct sound effects to go with the different clips in my film. For example using fast creepy music to build up tension at a certain part in the movie. Garage band allowed me to use the sound effects and import them onto final cut pro to edit in with my film.
