Evaluation Question 4 : Who would be the audience for your media

Audience

First of all I needed to find my audience, in order to do this I had conducted a survey regarding the genre of R&B, this survey enabled me to firstly find the age range of whom my magazine is going to be targeted at. The reason the genre is R&B because that is the genre I had selected to create my magazine on due to the lack of R&B magazines in the UK market. By looking at Vibe magazine it gave me a clear understanding for the typical target audience for an R&B magazine, I also looked at magazines such as XXL even though it’s more rap based, even though it’s rap based there are still R&B artist’s present such as drake.

Research

After carefully looking at vibe magazine I realised the age group for the people who find this most appealing are between the ages of 16 and 24. As my magazine mainly follows the conventions of Vibe the age range for my R&B magazine will be slightly similar. So I tested this in my focus group and I was correct if you see the video. My reader profile for John Dee is also within this age range as he is 18 years of age. The main reason why Vibe and Bass Control have a similar target audience is because both magazine contain similar artist’s.

So who is my target audience?

My target audience is between the ages of 16-24 (males) this is because I am following the conventions of both Vibe and XXL magazine mainly Vibe. Later on in my blog I created a feedback form on my contents page and people within the age range replied. This is because my magazine contents page appealed to them as they are my audience.

Whilst creating this magazine I had to use an artist who looked similar to a current R&B artist, my friend Randeep Sadasivan was perfect as he looks similar to Jay Sean and his pose is similar to Drake’s.

My artist would also appeal to girls as Jay Sean is used as a chick magnet on front covers, as my artist is also within the age range for my target audience the girls attracted to his image will also be a part of my target audience.
