evaluation question 4
TRANSCRIPT
How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
Evaluation Question 4
Research and Planning
I used YouTube to view a variety of music videos, the majority being from the rock genre. This enabled me to find general
and generic conventions of music videos. On YouTube I found it easy to find the
videos that I wanted to find due to using keywords and categories.
I used blogger to keep record and keep track of all the work that I had done. I then
used a variety of different media technologies to present my work through blogger. We used blogger as it enabled us
to keep all our work in one place. I had used blogger in AS so was comfortable
with the tools and layout of it. As well as this I knew how to embed videos, and
other media forms as well as move these to where I wanted them on the post.
I used Google as my main search engine throughout all stages, I found it easy to use
and find what I wanted to find through it. This is the
search engine that I prefer to use as I find it easy to find what I am looking for by
using keywords.
I used a number of different media technologies for the research and planning stage. These media technologies included…
Computer
I used a computer for all of my work, this included a number of software's
that were on the computer. I was comfortable with using a computer as I was confident using it due to having
lots of experience with computers.
However the computers had changed from our previous year
of media. These were much slower and I found them harder
to work with than I did the others in the previous year.
I used Microsoft PowerPoint to make the PowerPoint's which I then uploaded onto
slide share. The two slide shares that I first created through PowerPoint were music video analysis and the digipak final plan.
Microsoft Word was also used to then turn into slide shares.
The side shares I created through Word included, risk
assessments, shooting schedule, shot lists and
questionnaires.
“Prezi is a presentation tool that helps you organize and share your ideas”. On Prezi I created presentations which showed part of my planning and research. I had no previous experience of Prezi but found that as I gained more experience by making more that my Prezi’s improved in quality and aesthetics.
I used wordle for a post on the conventions of rock music videos. This turned out to be useful when coming up with ideas for our music video to see if we are using generic conventions. I hadn’t used wordle before
but soon found it relatively easy to produce one once I found out about how you input
the words.
I used slide share to upload PowerPoint’s that I had made to present on my blog. Slide shares that I made
included music video analysis’, questionnaires, risk assessments, shooting schedule, shot lists, lyrics and my digipak planning. I had used slide share in AS so
was confident with uploading power points.
I found both of these programs easy to use as I had
a good amount of previous experience with them.
I used UK tribe for research into my target audience. By using UK Tribes I found out that teenagers from our target audience are in the alternative category. It also enabled us to find out
what they watch and where they buy from which helped when planning who would advertise/play our music video.
I used Bauer Media to collect market research about my target audience. This helped when it came to deciding upon
ideas.Rock FM was one of the radio stations that is
likely to play our song. For this reason we chose to analyse who the listeners of this
station are.
Planet Rock and Kerrang! were two other radio stations that were likely to play our song and for this reason we chose to see who their general listeners are so we knew who we were going to be targeting our video
at.
I hadn’t used these websites before but found that the layout was easy to
understand as well as find the information that I was looking for easily and quickly.
Construction
We used a microphone during the filming of the intro and outro of our music video. This enabled us to make the sound clearer for the intro and outro
due to it been filmed outside. Again we had previous experience of this tool which enabled us
to focus more on the camera shots than be worried about the microphone.
To film the performance part of the music video we used lighting equipment. The lighting software was
called Chansys PC and the lights were Showtec Explorers. I had no previous experience of using the
lighting equipment, however once introduced to it by our technician and with help from another in our media class I soon came to grips with the lights and was able
to save how I wanted them. I then was able to use them whilst filming without having to go through the set up
stages again.
The camera I used for filming was a Panasonic NVGS500. I found this camera easy to use and it
had the tools that I needed. I had previous experience of using this camera during my AS
media and this helped with my confidence levels and allowed me to try out new shots that I
wouldn’t have attempted if it was new to me.
I also used a camera to take still images of things. This included locations, characters and
the process of filming which I then uploaded to blogger. I had used a camera during the
previous year of media as well as in photography so knew how to get the setting of
the camera suitable for the task it needed to achieve.
To edit our video we used Movie Studio Platinum.
We used Photoshop to create our ancillary task 2, our poster. I
found using Photoshop relatively easy due to using it in my
previous year of media as well as for photography.
We used Adobe illustrator to create our ancillary task 1, our
digipak. We used illustrator due to it being the software
that is used in the ‘industry’. I had no previous experience of using Illustrator. It took awhile to get use to but eventually it was easy to resize images and
rotate them than it is on Photoshop.
I found this software more difficult to use than I found Premier Pro in
the previous year.
Effects that we used on this program included:-Fades, we included these to make some of the transition between
clips smoother and more effective.Contrast and Brightness, we chose to alter the contrast and
brightness of a couple of the shots due to things being in the background that we didn’t want to be there.
Page Roll, we used a transition called a page roll for the photo album scene so it looked as though the photo albums page was
moving into the next shot.Text, we also used the text tool so that we had text at the end of the
video to show who the artist and song is.
Here are some of the
fades we used
Here is the text we had at the end of the
music video
Evaluation For the evaluations of my products I used a number of different media technologies.
For my first evaluation question, I wrote an essay.
Music video embedded off
YouTube
Images imported
Wordle
To form this essay I used blogger, on blogger I
included things such as a wordle, music videos that had been embedded off
YouTube and images which I imported. These helped
to support my views.
For my evaluation question 2, I made an audio clip and put images to support it.
I created this audio clip by using a sound booth microphone.
I then added the images to it through Movie Studio Platinum. The same editing software that I used for the construction of my
music video.
This is the audio file.
These are some of the images that I imported to support my audio file.
For my evaluation question 4 I created it through Microsoft
PowerPoint.For my evaluation question 3, I created a prezi.
I then uploaded this PowerPoint to slide share and then embedded
this on to my blog.
I used YouTube, Facebook and twitter to present my video to my target audience,
which I then collected feedback from.
I then presented my prezi through blogger.
This is how I embedded it onto my blog.
