EVALUATION QUESTION 5“How did you attract/address your audience?”

Questionnaire

At the start of our project, we wrote and distributed a questionnaire to a selection of people what spanned a variety of genders and age groups

We used the data that we collected to create an audience profile and work out who we needed to aim our work at

Audience Profile

Using our questionnaire results, we decided

that our target audience would be: Primarily male Between the ages of 15 and 30 Middle class Audience category B or C Intends on going, or has been, to university Sociable with a large group of friends Sporty Loves travelling Has a girlfriend/wife

No children Enjoys action, horror and thriller films

Audience Feedback

We showed our thriller to a group of people that fell within our target market and got them to fill out a mark scheme to tell us what they thought our strengths and weaknesses were (feedback is on next slide)

Then, using the feedback we received, we tried to improve our thriller For example, a large proportion of our audience said that the

‘editing for meaning’ was ‘proficient’ and not ‘excellent’, so we went back and changed the order of some of the shots

Also, about half of our feedback said that the shots could’ve been steadier. Although we used a tripod for all our shots, some of them look a little wobbly during panning a tracking shots. To improve this, we added stabilization to some shots using a tool in iMovie

How did we make our product appeal?

As our target audience is primarily male, we have more male characters that female ones

We chose to have the characters be agents, as spy/secret agent films are mostly marketed at males

There is also violence, with the female agent being shot, which usually appeals to the market that we were aiming our product at

Thriller films usually have a mysterious aspect to them, so we used the briefcase to create mystery We originally had a shot of the inside of the

briefcase, but we cut it in the end because we thought the film worked better with the ambiguity of what the agent with the case could have seen inside it

Also, we used editing and music to create a very tense atmosphere which is another convention of the thriller genre
