LOOKING BACK AT YOUR PRELIMINARY

TASK, WHAT DO YOU FEEL YOU HAVE

LEARNT IN THE PROGRESSION FROM IT TO

THE FULL PRODUCT?

RESEARCH

I have learnt how important research is to carry out

before starting a task. It is particularly important to

work out what type of magazine I wanted and how

to achieve that. Through research into codes and

conventions it enabled me to pick out key

characteristics of magazines which I had never

noticed before and apply them to my own. E.g.

Sizing of the photo to make it appropriate for a

magazine.

PHOTOSHOP

I’ve also learnt how to make better use of

Photoshop in various different ways. These include

working out to use layers, editing fonts and images

and working out what looks good in terms of lay out

and house style.

PHOTOGRAPHY

I had a much clearer idea of what I wanted the final

product to be like through mock ups and sketches

and after having had some practice with during the

preliminary task and after having watched video

tutorials on how to use the camera I felt much more

confident using the camera and trying to capture

the images I needed.

RESEARCH – CODES AND CONVENTIONS

The codes and conventions have helped me to

have better understanding of what is typical for a

music magazine to make it look as close similar

products as possible.

PLANNING

Planning was essential as it enabled me to plan the

type of magazine I was going to produce and how I

was going to achieve that. In my case I went for a

indie music magazine which was achieved though

finding the right model with the right look and the

right location.
