Pride House International Pride House International Pride House International is a coalition of LGBTIQ+ sport and human rights groups, including previous Pride Houses, united to promote the cause of equality in and by sport.

The Pride House concept grew out of the hospitality house tradition founded at the Olympic Games. This has been achieved in the past thorough the creation of a LGBTIQ+ Pride House at large-scale international sporting events such as the Olympics, the Commonwealth Games, the Panam/Parapanam Games and the World Cup.

Over the past seven decades, hospitality Houses have become an integral part of the Games. Typically organized around nationality or culture, these spaces – which may be inside or outside the official athlete’s village - provide a base for supporters and athletes to enjoy a safe space supporting their Country during the event.

Accordingly, Pride House International is a venue welcoming LGBTIQ+ athletes, fans, and their allies during large-scale international sporting events. Typically, they are welcoming places to view the competitions, experience the event with others, learn about LGBTIQ+ sport and homophobia in sport, and build a relationship with mainstream sport.

(To Be Confirmed) Our Patron - THE HONOURABLE MICHAEL KIRBY AC CMGWhen he retired from the High Court of Australia’s on 2 February 2009, Michael Kirby was Australia’s longest serving judge. Remaining active in retirement; in May 2013 he was appointed by the United Nations human Rights Council to lead an inquiry into human rights abuses in North Korea.

Kirby is a fellow of the Hastings Centre, an independent bioethics research institution in the United States. In 2006, he was elected an Honorary Bencher of the Inner Temple in London. In the same year, the Australian Academy of Humanities elected him an Honorary Fellow. Since 2010, Kirby, has been one of the 11 members of the Eminent Persons Group set up to advise on reform of the Commonwealth Nations.

Matt has been an active human rights campaigner for 20 years. He set an International legal precedent when he was banned from playing Australian Rules football for being HIV+ in 1998. Matt successfully had the ban overturned in the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for the betterment of HIV+ athletes worldwide.

In 2002, Matt was the first male Australian Rules footballer at any level to publicly come out as gay in an interview in Blue magazine. He has previously been employed at the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (Formula 1), the Sydney 2000 Olympics and as the General Manager of a Queensland Sporting Association.

Matt is a Commonwealth Games Baton Bearer on Day 99 of the relay as recognition for his contribution to the Community.

Dr Darryl Gauld OAMTeam Rainbow Incorporated

Dr Darryl Gauld is in his 4th decade in educational leadership and management roles.  In addition to having worked as a School Principal since 1994, he has taught learners from most countries at primary, secondary, and tertiary schools, RTOs/TAFEs, higher education providers, universities, through to large corporations.  Dr Gauld has also been the CEO of Education Groups, in Sydney and Queensland; the CEO of Charles Darwin University’s, Sydney Campus; and the Campus Manager of the University of New England’s, Sydney Campus.

His award-winning Doctorate produced an Effective Teacher Model that has been published and presented, nationally and internationally.  It also contributed to the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers, a

decade later.  In 2014, his updated, written version was published by Wiley-Blackwell’s Handbook of the Psychology of Training, Development and E-learning, by invitation.

Dr Gauld has been a Director of Macquarie Grammar School Ltd; Treasurer of Sydney’s Regency Hyde Park; on the Executive of Chambers of Commerce; Regional Tourism Boards; the Sydney-San Francisco Sister City Committee (the oldest in Australia); President of Team Sydney Sports; Team Sydney delegate at the Federation of Gay Games, Annual General Assembly; and several other organisations.  He is now on the Corporate Governance Board of Crown Institute of Higher Education, the National Executive of the Graduate Management Association of Australia (since 2000 and ex-Vice-President), and on the Board of Team Rainbow Inc, Queensland based and headquartered.  On 26 January 2017, Dr Gauld was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia, in the Australia Day 2017 Honours List:  “For service to education, and to social justice and human rights”.

Gold Coast Pride House International 2018 Gold Coast Pride House International 2018 Ready for business…GCPHI2018 is expecting to host Athletes, Coaches, Administrators and the general public from throughout the duration of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The venue will host daily themed Events, media conferences, receptions, and will incorporate the events of our partners.

Plans to establish Gold Coast Pride House International 2018 commenced with a Community Collaboration held at The Arts Centre, Gold Coast in July 2017.

This Project is set to coincide with the XXI Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games. The Gold Coast Pride House venue is set to have a role of “Hospitality,” the facility will serve as a venue where people can feel welcome regardless of their sexuality. In the “Concierge” role, it will provide regional and cultural information related to the LGBTIQ+ community in Australia. In the “Outreach” role, it will teach visitors about challenges and solutions to those challenges related to LGBTIQ+ sportspeople. In the “Participation” role, it will host events open to everyone.

MATHEW MITCHAM OAM Born in Brisbane, Queensland, now retired as a diver. Matt is the 2008 Olympic Gold Medallist in the 10 metre platform, having received the highest single-dive score in Olympic history. He was the first openly gay athlete to win an Olympic Gold medal.

NATALIA COOK – OAM An Australian professional beach volleyball player and Olympic gold medallist. She became the first Australian woman to complete at five Olympic Games.

We want to ensure that the Gold Coast Pride House International 2018 “Hospitality House” adds real value to The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games and leaves a positive legacy for the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia and the wider world.

The sports experience and values such as respect, friendship and “Pride in Sport” so that in the future, become multipliers of these values at home and into society.

An aim of the project will be to support Gold Coast economy and Tourism, as well as the country’s sporting achievements.

The venue for the Gold Coast PHI 2018 will be located at “RISE Entertainment Venue” on the beachfront in the heart of Surfers Paradise, on the corner of Cavill Ave and The Esplanade.

Mega-Sporting Events (MSEs) like the Olympics and FIFA World Cup inspire humanity and have the potential to promote human rights, including through job creation and urban regeneration. Yet for over a decade MSEs have been linked to patterned human rights abuses that read like a panoply of business and human rights themes. Since 2006 the Commonwealth Games Federation, FIFA, and the International Olympic Committee have begun to instigate human rights reforms.

A new multi stakeholder coalition, chaired by Mary Robinson and facilitated by IHRB, meanwhile is pursuing innovative collaborate solutions to the human rights issues at stake. Diplomatic Business Hub – Increasingly, major sporting events are recognised as important catalysts for promoting international trade and investment. The Gold Cioast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be no difference.

An exciting program will focus on four key sectors, reflecting shared priorities across local, state andnational pproogram partners. These sectors include health and knowledge, food and agribusiness, education and training, and Queensland’s expertise in the business of sport.

During Games time, more than 1,200 broadcast technical and operational experts will work from the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) and venues to deliver event coverage.

Live television that will be transmitted via 25 outside broadcast vehicle and control rooms. 350 cameras will be deployed at venues in and around the Gold Coast, with more than 100km of broadcast cable laid.

Inclusive Physical Education lessons are crucial to making LGBTIQA young people feel safe and supported by their peers, teachers and the whole school environment.

Non-inclusive PE lessons are not just affecting LGBTIQ+ students, but also students with mental or physical health problems, students that are bullied and those with low self-esteem.

i) To encourage and promote community participation in both competitive and non-competitive aspects of sports and related social activities at club, state, national and international level.   ii) As it determines on a case-by-case basis, Team Rainbow may choose to associate itself by membership or affiliation with national and international event organisers and actively assist its members to participate in such events.   iii) To act as the coordinating and controlling authority in the conduct of carnivals/events and related social activities. When acting in this capacity, Team Rainbow may require that any competition is conducted under the rules of the relevant controlling body for the particular activity.   iv) To promote tourism and business opportunities.

Many of the koalas treated are hospitalised for 3-4 months before being released back into the wild.
