Welcome and thank you for coming to Lion’s Heart Annual “Pride of the Lions” Awards Event. My name is Garrett Williams and I’m privileged to be your emcee tonight, along with Becca Venable. I am a senior at Santa Margarita and Becca is a senior at Tesoro High School. I have been a Member of Lion’s Heart since 2008. Before we start, I’d like to remind you to turn off your cell phones and please do not text or talk during the program.

Erma Bombeck stated “Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another.”

Community service and the act of giving back to others is an opportunity. All of you have obviously recognized that and whether it was your parents who placed the opportunity before you, a friend who was involved and encouraged you to join, or just your own sense of “the right thing to do,” the fact is that the more opportunities you have in life, the more meaningful your life will be.

We are happy to announce that Lion’s Heart currently has over 2100 active Members in 25 chapters –in 6 states and is growing every day. To date, our Members have performed over 250,000 hours of community service! Over 149,000 of those hours are from the Trabuco Canyon Chapter. Thank you to all of our dedicated Members.

We are excited to say that Lions Heart is celebrating its 10th Anniversary. At this time I would like to ask Terry Corwin, Founder and Executive Director of Lions Heart to come up.

Garrett:Lion’s Heart is a participant in the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a Certifying Organization. This Award is a Presidential honor that recognizes the valuable contributions of volunteers nationwide who are answering the President’s call to serve others through volunteer activities. As a Certifying Organization, Lion’s Heart verifies Members’ service hours, and distributes the Award to qualifying volunteers.

To qualify, a Member 14 and younger must perform 50-74 hours for a Bronze Award, 75-99 hours for the Silver Award and 100 or more hours for a Gold Award. For Members older than 15, 100-174 hours must be performed for a Bronze Award, 175-249 for a Silver Award, and 250 or more hours for a Gold Award.

We are going to present the 182 awards by Class so that group photos can be taken for the website. After you receive your award, please go directly to the photographer for a quick photo. We will be going from the oldest girls to the youngest girls and, after we present the Class Coordinators with a gift, then the oldest boys to the youngest boys.

We would like to have the Class Coordinator for each group come up to receive all of the envelopes for their group and then hand them to their Members after the photo.

Please hold your applause until all recipients in each group have received their awards. Congratulations to our recipients:

I’d like to introduce Calvin Jones. Calvin is a Lion’s Heart member in the 2014 Boys Red group. Calvin has won this award 4 times. Please give Calvin a warm welcome while he tells us about the Torchbearer’s Award.

Calvin:

The Lion’s Heart Torchbearer’s Award is in honor and in memory of Ken Corwin. Ken Corwin was our founder, Terry Corwin’s, late father-in-law. He died in 2004, just a few months after Lion’s Heart was founded. Ken Corwin grew up in Long Beach. After serving as a Lieutenant in World War II, he attended the University of Redlands where he met and married his wife of 57 years, Jane. He was an outstanding student leader and athlete. He was inducted into the University of Redlands Athletic Hall of Fame for his achievements as a three-year letterman in football, basketball and baseball. He spent his professional life in education, first as a teacher and coach, and then as an administrator for the University of Redlands for 35 years. The following are just a few of the many organizations that he was involved with as a community volunteer: He was a Board Member of the Red Cross, the Rotary Club, the YMCA, the Chamber of Commerce, the Redlands Education Partnership Foundation, and the Redlands Community Scholarship Foundation. He was a member of the Boy Scouts Council Distinguished Service Committee. He was also active with Baseball for Boys and American Baptist Housing of the West. He was a Member and Chairman of the United Way Board of Directors, and was then Volunteer of the Year. He was also named Redlands Man of the Year for Outstanding Community Service. He was a regular blood donor. He had a lifelong association with the University of Redlands sports and alumni activities, including as Chairman of the Bulldog Bench. Both he and his wife Jane received the Outstanding Alumni Award. At Redlands Community Hospital, he served on its Board of Directors, and as Chairman. He was President of the Hospital’s Charitable Foundation for 15 years, and headed its annual charity golf tournament, helping to raise millions of dollars for the hospital. The Foundation named the annual golf tournament in his honor. In 1996, in recognition of his lifelong dedication to community service, my grandfather was honored to run with the Olympic Torch for the Atlanta Summer Olympic Games. This experience led to the naming of the Lion’s Heart Torchbearer’s Award. We hope all of the members will be inspired by my grandfather and his years of dedicated community service to give their best to our community. In honor of this great man who gave back to his community in so many ways, I am pleased to tell you about the Lion’s Heart Torchbearer’s Award. Each class has its own trophy and it will be awarded every year to the most deserving Member, as voted on by his or her peers. During the first ten days of May, each returning Member in each group voted on the Torchbearer’s Award recipient – that Member who had gone “above and beyond” for our community, who showed leadership throughout the year, came to the meetings prepared, and participated in most if not all of the group activities. All

votes were confidential and have been kept a secret until tonight. We are all excited to honor these Lion’s Heart Members who will receive this award. The recipient’s name is engraved on the trophy and he or she will keep the trophy until next year’s recipient receives it. Congratulations to this year’s recipients!

GirlsGirls Class of 2019 Blue- Makenna Lee

This past year was Makenna’s first year in Lion’s Heart. She was a leader at every meeting, performed all the duties as our groups’ president, and she always brought ideas for new opportunities to our group. She had 145.8 hours last year. She volunteered weekly at the local elementary school on Wednesdays because of late start. Over the year she also volunteered in a variety of different organizations. She is a super positive, organized, bright, courteous young lady. I look forward to watching her grow up and mature in the Lion’s Heart Community. Congratulations Makenna!

Girls Class of 2019 Red-Aubrey Davenport

Aubrey Davenport has won the Torchbearer Award for the 2019GR group. Her volunteer hours were spent volunteering at a Michael Chang fundraiser, making lanterns for Relay for Life, painting faces at the St. John’s information booth and helping out at the safe water for kids. Although Aubrey was not an officer last year, she was project manager for our first service project as a group. We made and distributed no-sew blankets to a senior home as part of her idea and leadership. Although she is no longer part of our group or Lion’s Heart, she continues to be a teen giving back and I applaud her service.

Girls Class of 2019 Yellow-Tatum Brakke

Girls Yellow 2019 is pleased to present the Torchbearer Award to Tatum Brakke. She is a quite a leader in the group, one the girls think highly of. She has 54.3 service hours performed last year and the organizations she gave her time to are Serra Catholic's student council, Holy Trinity Church as a VBS Leader and she also mentored young children in the sport of soccer.

Girls Class of 2018 Blue-Skylar M. Smith

This year’s 2018 Girls Blue Tourchbearer’s award goes to Skylar Smith. In Skylar’s first year she volunteered an impressive 244 hours. And during this last year she added another 193 hours. Skylar gave her time in a variety of ways, contributing to many different groups and organizations. Whether it was the Lion’s Heart office, a senior center, local school, a worthy cause, or soccer team, each benefitted from Skylar’s commitment to community service. Congratulations Skylar. Girls Class of 2018 Red-Audrie Miller

Audrie Miller served as President for the 2018GR group this past year. As President, she took her leadership responsibility above and beyond by organizing social events for the group, and working to create service opportunities for our group. She ran the group meetings with enthusiasm and energy, and was mindful of including each member in group discussions. Audrie earned the President's Gold Award this past year, logging in over 100 hours of service to our community, as well as to the people of Haiti during a week long mission trip to that country. Audrie has recruited new members to Lion's Heart, and has a passion for serving others.

Girls Class of 2018 Yellow-Skylar Rickabus

Skylar is the first to volunteer for any event and has a true passion for philanthropy. She volunteers for her church Bible study every summer. She regularly visits The Isaiah House- homeless shelter for women and children. She serves them dinner and dessert and offers conversation to these women and children. Skylar participates in Christmas caroling at a local hospital along with her church group, Operation Christmas Child and has collected close to a 100 boxes for this organization. She also is very eager to help out in the community with any opportunity that Lion's Heart offers. Skylar is kind, warm kind hearted young lady.

Girls Class of 2017 Blue-Alexandra Murdy

Ali had 156 hours this year and was the historian for our group. She volunteers around our community including at camp Pendleton, loaves and fishes, international festival, Laguna playhouse and being a summer camp volunteer. We are so proud of you for all you do to give back to our community!

Girls Class of 2017 Red-Rita Konopasky

Our 2017 Girls Red Group would not be the same without this member. She is a friend to us all and is always ready with a smile. She has been an integral part of the group by planning and following through on service events for several years such as collections for Animal Shelters, a personal passion of hers. This year she successfully served a President of our group and demonstrated an ability to be both a leader and team player. The 60 hours of service she volunteered this year were largely through her involvement in theatre, another passion of hers. We are very proud to call Rita Konopasky our 2013-14 Torchbearer Award recipient.

Tiffany has shown leadership qualities throughout the entire year. She is always up for group activities and encourages her classmates to join in as well. She brings new ideas to the group every month and follows through on all the ideas given from the other girls. She exemplifies the true meaning of a Lion's Heart.

Girls Class of 2017 Green-Erin Hiller

Our torchbearer is Erin Hiller. She has volunteered 150 hours this last year. She has consistently earned the Presidents Service award each year. She has a heart for serving others and is a positive member of our group. Congratulations Erin.

Girls Class of 2016 Blue- Erin Fitzpatrick

With over 100 hours of service, Erin has truly demonstrated a passion for serving and has dedicated much of her time to enriching the lives of the special needs kids in our community. For the past several years, Erin has dedicated a week to volunteering at the Special Camp for Special Kids program working one on one with a special needs child ensuring that their camp experience was a memorable one. In addition, she assists with the Challenger baseball and football teams, Cool Club and Best Buddies program. This past year, we were fortunate to have Erin serve as our group's secretary. Erin, for your dedication and leadership, we thank you!

Girls Class of 2016 Red-Annie Hall

The 2016 girls red group would like to congratulate Annie Hall for being chosen the recipient of the Torchbearer award for 2013-2014. Her commitment to her school, church and community show in the many hours that she has invested. She has helped her peers by spending many hours a week tutoring them in math and chemistry. She has also helped out with the homeless. Annie has brought many creative ideas to the group.

Girls Class of 2016 Yellow-Frances Gargano

This year we are honored to present the Torchbearer Trop to Frances Gargano! Frances was a fierce leader in our group and the secretary this past year. She volunteered over 57 hours last year devoting most of her time volunteering at St Mary's school leading their summer cheer camp. Frances also lead our successful Illumination Foundation shoe drive. Congratulations Frances Gargano, our 2016 yellow Torchbearer Recipient!

Girls Class of 2015 Blue-Caroline Bastian

The recipient of this year's Torch Bearer Award for the amazing Class of 2015 Girls Blue is an energetic, lovable and dedicated member of our group. This young lady submerges herself in a variety of community service opportunities and leadership positions with a willing heart, contagious spirit and an infectious laugh. She has volunteered over 855 hours since joining Lions Heart five years ago, has earned a Presidential Volunteer Service Award each year and has served our group as both Vice President and President. The Class of 2015GB is proud to announce Caroline Bastian as this year's recipient. Congratulations, Caroline.

Girls Class of 2015 Red-Sophia Popovich

The Torchbearer Award for group 2015GR is Sophia Popovich. Sophia has a giving heart, she has volunteered 970 hours and counting, since she started 5 years ago in 7th grade. She will be again a golden President Service Award winner with 266 hours performed this year. Some of her volunteer work has been with Working Wardrobes, Safe Passage, Vet Net, Meal Ministry, Ronald McDonald house. Sophia also volunteered last summer in Berlin, Rome and Venice. Last but not least she was the groups President and came to every meeting prepared and organized. Sophia is an outstanding example and a pleasure to have in 2015GR.

Girls Class of 2015 Yellow-Priya Prasad

Priya has been a member of our group for 4 years. This year she has gone above and beyond the required hours. She spent her free time volunteering at Mission Hospital, working as an assistant coach for NJB basketball and tutoring for the National Honors Society. She always comes to the meetings with a smile on her face. She is a joy to have in our group. Priya exhibits the true spirit of Lions Heart.

Girls Class of 2014 Blue-Becca Venable

Becca has been a member since the inception of our group. She has served as an officer for 4 years, 3 of them as our president. She is the recipient of the torchbearer and presidential volunteer service awards all 5 years. She dedicated many hours serving the children and families at CHOC hospital. Her leadership and philanthropic heart will serve her well as she continues her life journey. Congratulations Becca.

Girls Class of 2014 Red-Nicole Baggett

Nicole began in 7th grade eager to give back. She participated in almost every group event throughout the past 6 years. She continues to go above and beyond achieving the President’s Award three times including her senior year. During her time Nicole held the positions of president and secretary. She has been very active helping our local Rotary and recently was selected to attend a Rotary sponsored leadership training and return the following year as an alumni to help the next class learn these valuable skills. Her compassion and willingness to help others will take her far throughout her life.

Boys Class of 2019Purple-Jonathan Terry

Forming last August, Boys Purple 2019 members actively engaged in many service projects throughout the year. Notably, this member demonstrated initiative seeking out volunteer activities that matched his passions. Having compassion for the elderly, Jonathan Terry worked regularly at Park Terrace, often in the memory care unit. As an avid tennis player, he trained and was selected as ball kid for the ITF Wheelchair Masters. The VP of his Lions Heart class, Jonathan recorded 80 hours of service. Congratulations Jonathan Terry!

Boys Class of 2019 Blue-Nicholas Pinto

Nick set a great example for us as the first president of our Lion's Heart group. Not only did he prepare for every meeting but he greeted us all with a smile and positive attitude. I am pleased that he has been recognized by his peers. He should feel very proud of himself for the community service he accomplished, and the wonderful example he has set forth in our group. Congratulations Nick!!!

Boys Class of 2019 Red-Preston Wood

Preston was a wonderful contributor to our Lions heart Group. As President he submitted the Agenda and ran the Meetings. While volunteering, Preston was helpful and engaging. He chose to help others and give his time generously. Preston volunteerd 52 hours last year!!! His kind manner and fun personality makes him a great recipient for the Torchbearer Award. Congratulations!!

Boys Class of 2019Yellow-Matthew Chang

Despite his involvement in many activities, Matthew is well organized and leads our group in volunteer hours with over 80 hours of service completed this past year. The majority of his service has been from being involved in helping at the boys scouts events but also helping with many other organizations throughout the community. He is a polite boy who everyone likes and who is eager and conscientious about his service. He is well deserving of this award!

Boys Class of 2019 Green-Nicholas Richmond

Nicholas earned 85.8 volunteer hours for the 2013/2014 term. He is one of the kindest boys in the group. The majority of his hours were earned in the summer time assisting younger kids learn to play tennis at CVCC Tennis Camp. He also helped at local school fundraising events and was a part of our entire groups involvement with The Roosters Foundations big food drive for Second Harvest Food Bank for families in need in December. We look forward to another year of hard work from you, Nicholas! Thank you and congratulations!

Boys Class of 2018 Blue-Slone Smith

Congratulations to Slone Smith for receiving the Torchbearer Award! He has generously volunteered his time for numerous causes. Some of the organizations he has helped include Vintage Senior Center, Lion's Heart, Las Flores Middle School, Norman Murray Senior Center, and Relay for Life. He has also spent numerous hours taking first aid, CPR and

emergency preparedness classes along with painting neighborhood mailboxes and taking care of the yards of neighbors while they were out of town. Great job Slone!

Boys Class of 2018 Red-Braden Thommarson

Always smiling, quiet and at times seemingly aloof, Braden is the heart and soul of our group. Not one to run for an official officer position, he's our official backseat driver; the boys say "He takes this seriously, we need to shape up," and they do - because of the example he provides. Finishing his second year with just over 60 hours of service and a Presidential Service Award for his efforts, we're proud to recognize him as not only our unspoken leader but our true Torchbearer.

Boys Class of 2018 Yellow-Cole Espinola

Cole Espinola is the incoming president for Trabuco Canyon Boy's Yellow Class of 2018. Cole is an original member of this group and has been an active participant working to earn his hours. From beach clean ups to supporting the troops, Cole works tirelessly to complete his hours and attend all of the monthly Lion Heart meetings. Respect from his peers has earned him not only this Torchbearer award, but trust that he will do a great job leading our group this upcoming year.

Boys Class of 2017 Blue-Grant Brakke

Grant is an original member of the group since it began in 2011. He has shown great leadership in our group by being President this past year. He has volunteered more than 213 hours and has received the Gold and Bronze Presidential Service Award. He has volunteered as an Explorer thru the Laguna Beach Police Department. In addition, he has volunteered for the special needs and soup kitchens. It's a pleasure having him in our group. Congratulations Grant!

Boys Class of 2017 Red-Brady Wood

Brady Wood has really shined this year. Not only did he have the second highest number of volunteering hours with 77, but also held the officer position of Historian. This year, Brady cleaned up the Tesoro campus, volunteered at his church's Vacation Bible School, and wrote letters to our military over the holidays. Most importantly, Brady spent many Sundays helping his little brother's special needs basketball team, which all the children loved. Good job Brady and all the effort you brought forth this year!

Boys Class of 2017 Yellow-Zackary Rayner

Zachary has been a valuable member of the Boys Class 2017 Yellow group for two years. He comes to each meeting with pleasant disposition and has information on upcoming volunteer opportunities. He is very active in his community helping clean up parks and schools. Zachary was the historian for the group this past year. We congratulate him on receiving the Torchbearer award. It is well deserved.

Boys Class of 2016 Blue-Andrew Stelling

Congratulations Andrew Stelling on being the Torchbearer recipient this year for 2016 Boys Blue where he served as the president. He attended every meeting and was prepared with agendas and ideas about where the group could volunteer. Andrew gave 41 hours of his time with the majority helping tutor geometry and working at local food banks. Congratulations Andrew!

Boys Class of 2016 Red-Andrew Suda

Andrew Suda is well deserving of the Torchbearer Award. He is a highly respected member of the 2016 Boys Red Group, which is why he has been chosen to serve as President. He completed 94 service hours last year. Most of those hours were dedicated to worthwhile causes like the Walk for Awareness, Charity Miles, Miracles for Kids, and the NEGU foundation. He also found time to tutor his peers, assist with the Tesoro Youth Basketball Camp, and help with Vacation Bible School. Andrew is a motivated and enthusiastic young man that leads by example. It is no surprise that his peers chose him to receive this honorable award. Congratulations Andrew!

Boys Class of 2016 Yellow-Andrew Ryan

This was Andrew's third year with Lion's Heart. He served his community in a variety of ways with a total of 63 hours. Andrew particularly enjoyed traveling to Camp Pendleton to distribute Christmas trees to military families, teaching football to elementary aged athletes at summer camp, assisting with laptop orientation for incoming freshman at his high school, directing traffic at the Modjeska Canyon Summer Festival, caring for a neighbor's menagerie of pets and serving as secretary in his Lion's Heart group. Congratulations to Andrew, who demonstrates a true Lion's Heart spirit.

Boys of Class 2015 Blue-Jeff Palmer

The 2013-2014 Torchbearer Award goes to Jeff Palmer. Jeff is one of the original members of the 2015 Boys Blue. Jeff has always had a smile as he did numerous hours of community service. This last year with his demanding school schedule he still was able to give more than a hundred hours of community service. Congratulations to Jeff!

Boys Class of 2015 Red-Ben Rosenberg

2015BR Ben Rosenberg After serving as secretary last year, this year Ben served as group president and will serve as VP for the group's final year. Ben volunteered over 68 hours of community service this year, much of it for our treasured Tesoro High School. Rather than relaxing at the beach, Ben gave up much of his Spring break this year to help paint the 400 hall wall mural. He also participated in an activity cleaning gently used books for the Book Doctor's program which provides books to children who might not otherwise have them. Ben also did some tutoring after school through the National Honor Society. Thank you for your work for the community Ben!

Boys Class of 2015 Yellow-Jack Holguin

Jack is one of four original Members of Boys 2015 Yellow with over 550 hours of community service and this year the most hours with 177. The majority of those hours were performed at Lyon Air Museum where Jack is a docent. Jack has consistently earned the PVSA every year and this year will earn the silver. His passion and dedication for others is displayed in the organizations Jack gives his time to: Love Bugs Animal Rescue, Boys and Girls Club Homework Club, RSM Food Bank, Special Olympics, 2/5 Marine Battalion Operation Snack Pack and the RSM Library. Congratulations, Jack!

Boys Class of 2014 Blue-Reilly Plocher

Reilly is a well deserved Torchbearer recipient. Having been a part of Lions Heart for six years he has also earned the Golden Lion Award. During these past years he held officer positions of Treasurer and Historian. Reilly rarely missed a meeting and suggested new opportunities. He has volunteered a total of 356.5 hours of which 119 were during this past year. He has volunteered at O.C. Social Services, St. Veronicas Guild and San Francisco Solano where he washed and folded laundry. Operation Help a Hero at Camp Pendleton cleaning barracks for returning Marines and cleaning beaches for the Surfrider Foundation. Congratulations Reilly!

Boys Class of 2014 Red-Calvin Jones

It is with great pride that Calvin receives the 2013-14 Torchbearer Award! We have all been fortunate to see his smiling face each year that Calvin has won this prestigious award. He has won the award 5 years out of the 6 that he's been a member of Lion' Heart. Calvin attended all the meetings and participated in the group service activities. All the guys in our group appreciate Calvin's true commitment to Lion's Heart, and to his many, many hours of service at Saddleback Church. Calvin plans on going to college after he graduates from Tesoro High School. He has a loving heart and a giving spirit.

The seniors in our chapter were given an opportunity to apply for a community service college scholarship. I have the pleasure of introducing Stan Baggett who is here to present two of our seniors with a community service scholarship.

Now, I would like to introduce Nicole Baggett, a senior speaking on behalf of all of our senior Members, which will end our program tonight.

Nicole Baggett:

The heart of a lion is an idiom that describes a person who has courage in the face of adversity. Lions represent strength and a desire to never falter, even if a task is difficult. Lion’s Heart Teen Service Organization is an amazing platform for teens to develop lion hearts of their own. These hearts grow from bonding in each of our groups working together toward a brave cause of addressing problems and neediness in our community. We face these challenges by selflessly lending our helping hands.

I could not see my life without somehow giving back to the community and that is thanks to my family. My parents act as my role models in many ways, but their passion to always be a helping hand in their community was one that I wanted to be passionate about too. My father, Stan Baggett, is an active member of the Coto de Caza Rancho Santa Margarita del Sol Rotary Club. As past president, he and the club were involved in a project for Boys and Girls Town to build play and shade structures in their community for the younger kids to enjoy. He also organizes the Coto Fourth of July Parade and hands out Christmas hams to soldiers’ families at Camp Pendleton every year. My mother Karen Baggett has been the coordinator of both me and my older brother’s Lion’s Heart groups. She has conducted a total of 96 Lion’s Heart meetings at our home and has baked 2 dozen cookies for each meeting. 1152 cookies later, she still hasn’t stopped planning or encouraging our groups to stay involved in great events and service outings. She tells me every day how she couldn’t see herself not giving back to her community. She has been a part of Lion’s Heart since the beginning and I credit all of my excitement for service to her support and love. Not only is she my mom, but she is an incredible role model for both my and my brother’s groups. I am proud to announce that I have donated 410 hours to my community through my involvement in Lion’s Heart.

In total, the entire Lion’s Heart body has donated 249,604 hours of time towards communities in need. It is important to remember that even the littlest act of kindness can go a long way in someone’s life. You may not see the effects of your service right before you, but I can assure you you’re help makes a bigger impact than imaginable. Even smiling at someone has the possibility of creating a huge impact—you never know much they could’ve needed it. Smiling takes roughly 1-2 seconds. Imagine what our quarter of a million hours have done to change lives in the community around us! We’re all a part of a great organization that grows every day and whose impact is bigger than all of us. I hope for all my fellow seniors that our time here has given you the drive and excitement for even bigger service opportunities in your futures. To continuing members, do not forget how far acts of kindness and service can go. You have a chance to create a difference in as many people’s lives as you can!

A great experience where my group did see first-hand the impact of our service was through South County Soup Kitchen. After preparing food packages to go home to families in need, we had the chance to hand them out personally. I can’t really compare how amazing it was to see how grateful these families were. I’ve never heard such honest “thank-yous” and even tears of joy were shed—they hugged our group and shook our hands. I will never forget how their happiness and relief in being able to feed their families was partly because of my group’s hard work and service.

The Lion’s Heart Mission Statement reads: “Lion's Heart is a community service organization for teens dedicated to serving the community in meaningful and fun ways.” Yes, you heard correctly, FUN ways! I have created great, fun memories with the girls in my group. A most memorable service outing was going to Double R Ranch, a working farm operated by the Orange County Rescue Mission reserved as a retreat for hurting youth from unsafe homes. Our group was able to clean the stalls of cute baby goats, collect eggs from chicken coups, and try to paint fences without painting ourselves instead! Yes, I came home smelling as gross as ever, but I was already waiting to do it again! Another loved event of mine was volunteering to help create a float for the Rose Parade. I’ve never seen so many flowers in my life! I was in charge of blending flower petals to be painted on the float. My hands were multicolored for about a week after, but nothing beats watching your float on New Year’s Morning. Of course community service is an act of selflessness, but that does not stop fun and unforgettable memories to come from it. Volunteering at the Toys 4 Tots warehouse every Christmastime was our favorite as a

group. We couldn’t help playing inside boxes ourselves before we filled them with massive amounts of toys going to children who wouldn’t have had gifts if it weren’t for Toys 4Tots. If there’s anything I’ve learned from volunteering at Toys 4 Tots, it’s to appreciate all the toys my parents were able to give me at Christmas, and sometimes lifting your friend into a box to trolley across a busy warehouse probably isn’t the safest idea. Giving back is a great thing to do, why not have fun while doing it?

A last note to my seniors: As this chapter in our lives comes to a close and we begin writing a new collegiate one, I hope for all of you to give back to your new communities in college. We are very fortunate for the things we have in this beautiful place we live in, but no matter where you go there will always be help needed. I wish for all of you to be that helping hand your peers and those in need can hold on to and for your lion hearts to remain strong so you can face any challenge with courage and a smile on your face. Congratulations to the Lion’s Heart Class of 2014!

Thank you, Nicole! I have the honor to talk about the Lion’s Heart Members who are seniors this year and have been an active Member all six year. First, I would now like all seniors who are Members in Lion’s Heart this year to please stand to be acknowledged. (pause) These members gave 8,436 hours of their time to our community and our schools. We wish you all luck and are confident that you will go from being teens that give back to adults who continue to make a difference!

The Golden Lion Award is awarded each year to the seniors who have been with Lion’s Heart for the entire six years. Jessica Ameele volunteered over 782 hours of community service. She served as historian and vice president as well as earned 3 PVSA’s and was awarded the Torchbearer Award twice. She will be attending University of Arizona in the fall.

Nicole Baggett performed 410 hours of community service. Nicole has served as President and Secretary. She has earned Bronze and Silver President's Volunteer Service Awards. Nicole has received the Torchbearer Award. She will be attending San Diego State University in the fall.

Arden Clark performed 259 hours of community service. Arden has served as Treasurer. Arden was the Social Media Chair for Lions Heart for the past two years. Arden will be attending BYU in the fall.

Zackary Cavanaugh performed 411 hours of community service. Zackary served as Treasurer. He earned the Silver President's Volunteer Service Awards. Zack will be attending Orange Coast College in the fall then transferring to Embry Riddle.

Calvin Jones performed 893 hours of community service. He earned the Bronze and Gold President's Volunteer Service Awards. Calvin was the recipient of 5 Torchbearer Awards. Calvin will be attending Saddleback in the fall then transferring to UNLV.

Riley Turner volunteered 187 hours in the 6 years he has been a part of Lion’s Heart. He served as Vice President for 2 of those years. Riley will attend UCLA in the fall.

Griffin Walkey volunteered 253 hours in the 6 years he was a part of Lion’s Heart and served as vice president one of those years. Griffin will be attending the University of Pittsburg in the fall.

Griffinh White performed 235 hours of community service. Griffinh served as President and Vice President. Griffinh will be attending Southern Methodist University in the fall.
