Alzheimer’s Research Update – Thursday, Feb 12, 3pm at BST West in the RR Lounge. Dr. Pat Peters, MD and Dr. Beth Goethe, PhD will be here to present their latest findings stemming from their research on Alzheimer’s disease. Care And Share Group - Friday, Feb 20, 10:30am in the LeMay Room - This is a group for caregivers, former caregivers and friends of caregivers that meet, the third Friday of every month. This is an informal group discussion on various caregiving topics. We invite you to come and share your experiences with other caregivers, or if you just want to come and listen, that’s okay, too.

Continuum of Care Round Table Discussions: It’s time for a refresher course of our Continuum of Care Education - Monday, Feb 16 at 10am in the RR Lounge. This presentation, as has been in previous years, is a discussion of the various levels of care available at BST and the criteria for each level so that our residents know the resources available to them and how to access those resources. This is a great opportunity for new residents, and not so new, to learn more about our continuum of care. What’s Next Club, Wednesday, Feb 25, 10am, Helen LeMay Room - The What’s Next Club is for anyone who may be dealing with a loss, recent or past. Losses occur at every stage in life, particularly in our later years. The loss of a loved one is always difficult, as are many other losses that are experienced as we age, such as

emotional, physical, mental and social loss. Don’t forget the loss of vision, hearing or memory problems; a spouse with dementia, or the inability to complete activities of daily living due to medical issues. All of these losses can cause depression, fear, anger, guilt and confusion. Our group is here to help you figure out what to do next – how to move forward – sometimes just one step at a time. Marla Casanova, RN and Katie Boggs, LMSW will guide you to “What’s Next.”

Reid Pharmacy - The fax number for the Reid Pharmacy is 671-6486. Please provide this number to your civilian Primary Care Physician (PCP) if he/she is faxing a prescription to be filled at the Reid Pharmacy. If your Primary Care Physician (PCP) is a military physician, and a new prescription is being ordered, please contact our office so we can notify the pharmacy staff.

Medications entered by a military physician are considered Physician Order Entries (POEs) and will remain in suspense until notification is made of the entry.

BST West Medication Pick-Up Times – Medications, picked up at Reid Pharmacy and HEB Pharmacy (Valley Hi location only), are available for pick up in the Wellness Center from 1pm-4pm, Monday-Friday.

Thursday, Apr 9, Aetna Fun Walk & Senior Games Opening Ceremony - The walk will be held at O.P. Schnabel Park. There are two walk options - 2 miles on the trails or a 1 mile smooth surface option. The fee is only $5 per person and the first 300 to register are guaranteed the official walk t-shirt. Opening

Wednesday, Feb 25, 10am OASIS Class, Introduction to Laughter Yoga, BST East CC2,3 - Dr. Raymond Troxler. Most of us have seen the phrase “Laughter is the Best Medicine” in Readers Digest and then just read the funny story. It turns out medical experiments have shown that artificial laughter can be induced in a group by a special Yoga technique developed by an Indian physician, Madan Kataria. A medical study has shown that this artificially induced laughter may be beneficial in reducing the biomarkers of psychological stress. During this class the following topics will be discussed: the physiology of artificial laughter verses natural laughter, the reported medical benefits of artificial laughter, how to practice Laughter Yoga (DVD presentation) and how to have a personal experience with Laughter Yoga as a group. Wednesday, Apr 1, OASIS Class, Frontier Forts of Texas, CC2,3, 10am - Mario Marcel Salas. This class will outline the frontier forts of Texas, which include over 40 historic military installations. For several centuries, various groups fought over access and control of the

land that is now known as Texas. Forts were used to control geographic spaces and possession of the land was claimed and disputed by indigenes people and several colonial powers for many years. Control of resources was the central reason for building forts, as well as protection from marauding settlers. Saturday, Feb 21, Asian Festival, 11am - The Institute of Texan Cultures invites Texans to the Asian Festival. The family-friendly event features music, cultural performances, food, fashion, crafts and other products. Guests can also enjoy traditional Asian dance and musical performances on three separate stages; multicultural demonstrations of cooking, henna painting and palm reading; and craft sales including clothing, artworks, dolls, silk items and other gifts.The sign-up deadline is Monday, Feb 9. Wednesday, Feb 25, PO PO Monthly Dining Out 5pm - Join us for a spectacular evening of no ordinary restaurant. It has a unique history with a cast of uncommon characters and circumstances, a matchless plate collection, as well as some of the best food in the Texas Hill Country. Thursday, Feb 26, Who Are Your Ancestors? CC1,2, 10:30am - What is the name of your great, great, great, great, great grandmother? Come learn the tips and online sources to search your history. Bring laptop if you have one. Laptop not required. The sign-up deadline is Monday, Feb 16.

Thursday, Apr 9, Wildseed Farm, Fredericksburg, Texas - Through the ages, Mother Nature worked alone splashing the countryside with brilliant colors. In 1983, there were very few sources for wildflower seeds and the seeds that were available were prohibitively expensive, but not today. Visitors can explore walking trails, watch the farm staff work and take photos. In Pick-Your-Own fields, they can create bouquets.
