We continue to work with a strengths based model and this year has seen some big results as some of our support- ed employees have learnt third party lo- gistics skills. Add this to our other roles of assistant team leader and warehouse assistant, Marriott Industries is leading the way forward in choice. As an example of the hum of activity - Spice jarred this year alone will reach 225,690 jars; I am exhausted just writing this! Achieving such great results is all due to the work of our supported employees who have such a sense of pride in their work along with a tremendous work ethic. Christmas is the season of giving, be careful what you give on the internet.

The holiday season is a time of fun and joy but it can also be a time when we can feel anx-ious and lonely. We may reach for our devices to share the moment or to help us feel less alone. Be aware of what you share on the internet. Here are IMPORTANT tips to keep safe.

• Do not share private information – passwords, phone number, address, bank details, surname or your movements.

• Find someone you trust to show you how to manage the privacy, safety and security tools and how to block people.

• If you are chatting to someone online stay in pub-lic chat spaces, do not go to private chat spaces.

• Never meet up with someone you met online unless you take a friend along.

• Always be respectful online as in person. • Do not share photos of other people without their

permission and expect others to ask your permis-sion before sharing.

Inappropriate Selfies – don’t go there

A ‘selfie’ is the taking of a photo of oneself and shared on social media. Never share images online that are compromising and may place you at risk. Ask yourself would you be happy for your grand-mother to see that photo. What goes on the internet stays on the internet and is very difficult to remove; the photo may pop up later. One reason people post selfies is to gain approval by getting a lot of ‘likes’ on a photo they’ve shared.

This holiday season, spend time with real friends and stay safe using the internet.

Be safe on internet

Carolyn started volunteering with Roads to Indepen-dence after her daughter, who was a corporate volun-teer at Marriott Industries, recommended Marriott to her.

At Fairway Aged Care Facility, Carolyn supports Jess, Ebony and Samson in the chef’s kitchen, and Liam in the office and also when Jess went solo for an extra day.

Carolyn brings a ray of sunshine each week, she is a great communicator and works alongside staff to ensure each person is engaged in conversation and developing skills. What do the Fairway team say?

Jess – Carolyn helped me with travel training when we moved to Keys road and now I am confident to travel independently. Samson - Carolyn explains how to make the recipes in an easy way for me to understand. Paul - Carolyn always chats with me and has made me feel welcome. Congratulations to this year’s Pam Rivers Volunteer Award winners; Carolyn Goodall and Bill Begg. Bill volunteers at Ormond Tennis club and when Industries call for extra help Bill is quick to put his hand up to help out for the day.

We shout out a big thank you to all our volunteers. We are proud of your contribution to Marriott.
