ChemChina’s pres ident, Ren Jianxin, paid a visit to ChemChina

(Singapore) Pte, on Feb 16, for a survey of the business operations there and to discuss its performance in 2013 and the work that lies ahead in 2014. Ren praised the company’s rapid growth in such a short timeframe and affirmed their plan to increase the credit line from banks and ensure sufficient supplies for domestic refineries and work harder to develop the fuel oil and crude oil transit trade. A top priority for the company this year is to establish a risk control system. Ren also laid out the specific steps and work the Singapore branch must take next. ■

Re n J i a n x i n , P r e s i d e n t o f ChemChina, and Robert Lu,

President of Bluestar, went to Australia to visit Qenos’ olefin plant in Altona.

They l i s tened to repor t s by Jonathan Clancy, CEO of Qenos, and his management on the company’s plan to expand business. They also carried out field research on the recently built unit that had a total investment of 195 million Australian dollars ($174.28 million). Andrew Lake, director of operations of Qenos, and Duncan Laslett, director of the olefin plant, gave an elaborate introduction of the project, including the ethylene

purifying column, compressor and 21-megawatt combined heat and power generation. They said that the project can supply electricity and steam for the whole Altona plant and continue to keep Qenos’ capacity of polyethylene and petrochemicals in top place in Australia.

In the end, Ren Jianxin expressed his satisfaction over Botany Plant’s 12 years of effective operation and the fact that its overhaul plan was deferred to 2015. On behalf of ChemChina, Ren spoke highly of Peter Beattie, director of the plant, and his team members. ■

Makhteshim Agan Industries (MAI) recently announced

plans for a brand-new global brand, ADAMA, this April, for use worldwide. MAI is a global leader in crop protection and, to support the application of this new brand, officially changed its name to Adama Agricultural Solutions Ltd on Jan 23, 2014. The brand change will be applied region-by-region worldwide for the global launch, with overall appl icat ion scheduled for a late-2015 completion. “Adama” means “earth” or “soil” in Hebrew and re f lect s the company’s commitment to agr icu l tura l development worldwide, with the focus on farmers. During the brand transition process, it expects to reduce its many local brands portfolio and streamline its product mix by putting it under a single brand. ■

Nanjing Adisseo methionine plant

goes into operation

Bluestar (Beijing) Chemical Machinery’s solar photovoltaic power generation project comes online

Changsha Institute wins the first high-value contract in 2014

A liquid methionine production line of Nanjing Adisseo, the

world’s largest of its kind and China’s first, recently went into operation and its products are comparable to those from Adisseo’s facility in Burgos, Spain. This means that China can now manufacture liquid methionine for the first time in history, thus moving its animal feed industry up the chain to support greater breeding. In addition to this Nanjing plant, Adisseo has six solid and liquid methionine plants in France and Spain

Nanjing Adisseo began working on the liquid methionine plant (AT88) back in July 2009, on a 640- hectares site in the Nanjing Chemical Industry Park, following a design based on the Burgos plant. A 70,000-t/a plant went into operation in late 2013 in the first phase, with the second phase expected to be completed in 2016. Adisseo brought world-c l a s s t e chno l ogy, p roduc t s , industry standards and services to the Nanjing plant and its best technicians and managers from more than 20 countries, to Nanjing, producing a project team of several dozen people. Bluestar Adisseo will improve its parameters, increase its value, provide high-quality methionine products, meet the growing demand in the Asia–Pacific region’s breeding industry, and grow along with its partners. The methionine plant is important to ChemChina and Bluestar’s regional and Asia Pacific presence and restructuring. ■

Recently, a photovoltaic power generation plant was successfully

built at Bluestar (Beijing)Chemical Machinery Co., Ltd, as 25000 m2 solar panel was put into use for commercial-scale power generation, thus adding another layer to the energy structure of the company, ensuring the sufficient power supply to the factory and reducing its energy costs. Currently, two phases of solar photovoltaic power generation project were completed at the company, with solar panels deployed on all campus building roofs to provide an installed capacity of 1.3 megawatts. It is predicted that annual power output of 1.411 million kWh will be achieved, 478 tons of standard coal saved, 1253.3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions and dust emissions avoided, as well as electricity savings of about 0.55 million Yuan per year.

In response to the governmental and corporate call for energy saving and emission reduction and keeping in line with its corporate vision of becoming a green chemical company, the company not only works on its production process

but also seeks maximum social benefits by going green in its production process.

To achieve these goals, the company initiated cooperation with a solar energy company in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Area with the help of the Area’s management committee last year, implementing a mutually beneficial energy saving and environmental project using the latter’s technology and investment. In the process of project implementation, Bluestar (Beijing) overcame numerous production and construction challenges, thus complet ing the project as scheduled. Thereafter, photovoltaic power supply will be used whenever possible in the first place to cover daily power consumption on the plant premise, with the possible addition of municipal power supply in case of undersupply of photovoltaic power. Since the costs of photovoltaic electricity are 5% or 20% lower than that of municipal power supply, this project will generate remarkable economic and social benefits for the company. ■

On March 6, Changsha Institute’s project team successfully bid for

the expansion and renovation project as part of the 1.2 million t/a potassium fertilizer plant project undertaken by SDIC Xinjiang Luobupo Sylvite Co., Ltd, the first high-value turn-key project ever secured by the institute since its launch of a 100-day marketing campaign in the first quarter of this year.

This project will be implemented on the basis of 1.2 million t/a potassium sulfate plant. In this January, the development of packaged technology for 1.2 million t/a potassium sulfate plant in Lap Nur Salt Lake completed by the institute earned the institute the national first prize for scientific and technological advancement. Since it was put into operation in 2008, this plant has

generated both considerable economic benefits and significant social benefits, although this project still could not meet market demand. This expansion and renovation project will make full use of the potential of all plants on the 1.2 million t/a processing factory without changing the existing technological process and product plan, geared towards increasing the existing capacity to 1.5 million t/a with a moderate capital investment.

The institute set up a task force in order to secure this bid. The task force members reviewed carefully the bidding documents and conducted detailed analysis and calculation of prices before winning the bid as the best bidder with a reasonable offer and a detailed and feasible technical plan. ■

Beijing Bluestar Science and

Technology helps set national standards

for coolantA 2-million-yuan wastewater biochemical treatment plant renovation project that the Hunan Haohua Co undertook got Zhuzhou municipal Environmental

Protection Bureau’s acceptance recently. The project’s focus is on biochemical treatment and improvement of the pretreatment phase. The original wastewater treatment plant went into operation in 2000. The pretreatment phase is intended to create favorable conditions for biochemical treatment through process optimization, improved processes yield, reduced pollutant discharges, and more effective pretreatment work. Thanks to the better monitoring of trials and data, this project has cut the workload and treatment costs, and made operations more stable and made discharges meet environmental standards. ■

A Chinese motor engine coolant standard, GB29743-2013, which

will take effect on May 1, 2014, is mainly the work of the Beijing Bluestar Science and Technology Co, a leading developer, producer, and distributor of engine coolant in China and a standards formulator. This standards are handled by the National Automotive Service S t a n d a r d i z a t i o n C o m m i t t e e and jointly drafted by research institutes, coolant producers and carmakers with the help of the Road Science Research Institute of the Ministry of Transport. In contributing to the standards, Bluestar drew up a detailed coolant list and added non-dihydric alcohol coolant products to study, to meet China’s real needs. This will give some order to China’s unruly coolant business and raise the level of China’s coolants. ■

Lishan Motor special-purpose vehicle products going to Angola

When the Lishan Motor Co shipped 48 special-purpose vehicles to the country of Angola, on March 7, it marked the beginning of its exports to Africa.

When Lishan discovered that an Angolan company had plans to import container semitrailers from an e-commerce platform, it sent an employee to visit the Angola company, which ultimately ordered the first group of trailers, 48 in all, after concluding that Lishan’s trailer products met its price, performance, usability and quality needs. Lishan has been marketing its products over an e-commence system in parallel with direct selling. It built an information exchange platform for greater brand awareness, collected the latest information on customer needs, and set up a quality assurance and quality responsibility system for end-to-end process control and improved quality controls. ■

A maritime test program for 4,500-m deep-sea operations, undertaken

by the Maritime Chemical Research Institute as part of the nation’s 863 maritime technology program, recently passed the acceptance check by a panel of experts. The main body to operate the 4,500-m-deep system

employs a solid floating material the institute developed, that can meet the requirements of various types of underwater equipment. It has been used in underwater robots and unmanned submersible vehicles. The panel which consisted of experts from the Land and Resources Ministry,

China Geological Survey, Guangzhou Bureau of Maritime Geological Survey, and Shanghai Jiaotong University personnel, agreed that the project is important for China’s 12th Five-year 863 Program for the operations of deep-sea submersible vehicle technology and equipment. ■

ChemChina companies are always l o o k i n g f o r w a y s t o e n s u r e

occupational safety, for example th rough inc reased t ra in ing and supervision. So, Bluestar Dongda designed a 24/7 security and fire patrol system, identifying 17 major points identified at its liquid chlorine station and continuing safety inspection of its acrylonitrile to identify and remove potential hazards and ensure trouble-free operations. Over at the Zhonghao Chenguang Institute, they gave every employee training in the safe use of electricity and electric appliances and the main equipment, such as cracking furnaces, to make sure that they are

properly informed. For the cracking furnace operations, each worker was trained in ignition and supervised by team leaders in one-on-one instruction. Meanwhile, Changyi Petrochemical got employee specialists to take an exam on instruments and regulating valves for its 1-million-t/a continuous reforming plant and on how to replace any faulty equipment immediately. At Huaihe Chemical, they increased their equipment inspection efforts to ensure steady, trouble-free operation of the equipment. ■
