6.00P.MTHE IRON GIANT (U)

Chosen by members of the Film Club because The Iron Giant played a key role in this year’s Steven Spielberg film, Ready Player One and it is the first animation from the director of Incredibles 2, Brad Bird. Bringing to life the much-loved story by British poet Ted Hughes, The Iron Giant takes place in a quiet American town in the 1960s. The tale begins when a young boy named Hogarth follows a trail of huge footprints leading from his house into the woods - and finds an iron giant from space! Instantly the two form a firm friendship, and when the army try and destroy this enormous visitor, Hogarth does everything he can to protect his giant pal. Beautifully animated, this is a film with lots of wit and a huge amount of heart.

DIRECTOR/S

6.00 P.MREMEMBER THE TITANS (PG)

To celebrate Black History Month in October. This story based upon the true story of racial prejudice during an American Football season at a High School. An excellent sports movie full of rousing action, Remember The Titans is also a powerful drama that looks at the issue of race in America. The story is set in 1971 in the small American town of Alexandria, Virginia - and the conflict and controversy that results when in an attempt to improve the tense relationship between the black and white pupils of the local high school, a black head coach named Herman Boone is appointed to lead the American football team, with the previous white coach becoming his assistant. The situation is far from ideal for any of the people involved - not least because the new coach has been told if he loses a single game this season, he'll be sacked. With a brilliant performance from Denzel Washington as Coach Boone, this is a thought-provoking sports film.

6.00 P.MFANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM (12)

Chosen by members of the club to screen before this year’s sequel, The Crimes of Grinewald

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them - opens in 1926 as Newt Scamander has just completed a global excursion to find and document an extraordinary array of magical creatures. Arriving in New York for a brief stopover, he might have come and gone without incident were it not for a No-Maj (American for Muggle) named Jacob, a misplaced magical case, and the escape of some of Newts fantastic beasts, which could spell trouble for both the wizarding and No-Maj worlds.
