The world leader in bathroom spaces, Roca, has befittingly selected Barcelona to locate a new building concept which, besides being a brand emblem, is also at the service of the people. The OAB team (architect Carlos Ferrater and his son Borja and daughter Lucía), have created an utterly revolutionary space, every inch of the 2400 square metres both in its facade and the experience inside. It showcases everything related to the bathroom world: from the latest designs to highlighting the importance of water in society. Moreover, the building has been conceived to become a social centre that will host different activities and exhibitions. After Barcelona, this year Roca Gallery will also be opening in London, where the building is designed by the prestigious Iranian architect, Zaha Hadid, based in the English capital, and Madrid by the Estudio Lamela, as well as Lisbon.

An emblematic building open to the city. This is the concept of the new Barcelona Roca Gallery. It signals a new commitment by the company combining design, cutting-edge architecture and technology. The building has been conceived as another instance of disseminating the company’s values, history and challenges, and as a channel of transmission to attract citizens towards the projects, concerns and challenges of a company with over 90 years of history.

Roca Barcelona Gallery is already a new architectural point of reference in the city. Together with Roca, the studio has developed a building that represented a technological challenge, both in the conception of the facade and its inside, which is addressed as an interactive space with visitors. Roca has used a team of experts in communication, construction, lighting and audiovisuals to create a cutting-edge and emblematic building for the brand. The architectural project was based on two essential ideas: its form and outside appearance, and the experience of the space inside it.

The facade seeks to surprise, while also remaining unchanged over time. Built totally of glass, the facade simulates a great window that presents a distorted image of the inside. During the day, and depending on the lighting, surprising visual effects are created on the inside, while it is totally lit up at night thanks to hundreds of LEDs located in its structure.

Inside are the most advanced audiovisual and lighting techniques. By means of a system of detection by areas, the user can take a walk through the building, interacting with the space through touch screens and sound and lighting effects. The ground floor is dedicated to aspects that characterise Roca, data and facts related to the world of water, sustainability, design, architecture or the bathroom world and its future. On this floor there is an interactive explanation of the brand, its history and the activities carried on in areas of innovation, design or sustainability. The visitor can also take a stroll through different bathrooms from all over the world or learn of the importance of water for mankind.

On this floor the visitor can also interact with the “Rituals” projection. The latter, on a real scale and with very suggestive images, presents different non-conventional activities carried out inside the bathroom by developed societies. Another of the innovative audiovisual effects, the so-called “Momentums”, which are created every so often throughout the building, generating sensations related to water and two atmospheric phenomena: ice and rain.

The first floor houses a large and unique exhibition featuring some of the company’s finest products, made by architects and designers of international renown. Moreover, through an “interactive bathroom space viewer”, visitors can consult and see the actual collections applied to bathroom spaces in large format.

Floor-1, called the “Triple space” due to its conception as a free and open area, is used to hold cultural, artistic and social exhibitions. This floor also houses a meeting centre and projection room fitted out with the latest communications technology.

Nowadays there is a clear trend towards combining the various rooms that make up the traditional house into one single space. The bathroom space opens out to the rest of the house and the elements that compose it become prominent features of this new habitat. This new coexistence between the various items it contains leads us to novel situations. The bathtub can establish a � uid dialogue with a relaxation chair or with a standard lamp, and the washbasin can forge a happy relationship with a handsome Baroque chest of drawers. These new situations have inspired us to create our new bathroom collections, designed to integrate brilliantly into any context. Roca’s new spaces are open and uninhibited – unique settings for feeling, loving and living.

Progressive cartridge, which is a new technology in Roca faucets works like this: the control always starts the flow with cold water and as you continually turn the control this is followed by a mix of hot and cold, ending the turn with hot water, leading to significant energy savings. It consists of a pressurised stream of water mixed with air bubbles via jets located on the sides of the bath. Air and water reach the jets separately and, by means of the air suction due to the Venturi effect, are mixed, giving a stream of bubbling water that gives your skin an intense, stimulating massage. The jets are directable, so that the massage can be aimed at the area you want: back, thighs, knees or feet. Water massage has a number of effects on our body:

- It improves blood circulation (both capillary and lymphatic) and boosts the hygiene of the skin’s surface.- It aids effective muscular relaxation.- It oxygenates and makes the skin more fl exible, helping it to once again become smooth and soft.

Air/water massage bathsThis independently combines the functions and features of the water massage, as explained above, with an air massage.The air massage consists in the injection of air through multiple outlets in the bottom of the bath.The air is taken from the atmosphere and is sent through the holes in the bottom of the bath.This air massage places the body in a state of “pre-relaxation”:

For best performance from your Roca HydromassageDuration of bath:We recommend not spending more than 15-25 minutes in the bath.Temperature:Must be pleasant for whoever is having the bath. An optimal temperature is considered to be around 36-37ºC.Adding products:Just as important as the effect of the bubbles can be the addition of certain natural products to the bath water. Medicinal and cosmetic substances have excellent revitalising, relaxing and slimming properties. Nevertheless, it is important to note that these products should be water-soluble and not foaming.

The Tonic Premium system offers water hydromassage controlled by a digital LCD panel, with different massage programs such as continuous or pulse massage, and an electronic Venturi valve. The system uses side, back and foot jets that can be controlled with the digital panel. It has temperature and level sensors and preset programs.

TOTAL

The Total system offers air and water hydromassage controlled by a digital LCD panel, with various continuous or pulse massage programs, and an electronic Venturi valve. The system has side, back and foot jets and air jets in the bottom of the tub, all adjustable by means of the digital panel.
