It all started way back in 1958. When 13 Toyota LandCruisers were imported into Australia to lend a hand with the Snowy Mountains scheme. No-one knew it then, but it was the beginning of an important relationship between a country and a carmaker that would not only grow in size and intimacy every year, but break record after record – selling millions of cars, and employing thousands of Australians.

The first Toyota was sold here the following year. And within 5 years we’d gone from simply selling cars in Australia, to building them too. And while you might never have heard of the first car we brought off that production line – the Toyota Tiara – for us, it was the beginning of a whole new chapter in our history.

Today, some 45 years later, the world has changed a lot. But Toyota’s commitment here in Australia remains as strong as ever. Since 2002, we’ve invested more than $1 billion in the development of our manufacturing facilities in Australia including the introduction of new models. This state-of-the-art facility has allowed us to build cars with an unprecedented level of quality – and to build more of them for our loyal drivers. In fact, in 2008 we produced more cars than we ever have before – and also saw the 2.5 millionth Australian-built Toyota roll off the production line.

Both inside the cabin and under the bonnet, the Camry features world class intelligent technologies that instinctively interact with the driver and the road, resulting in a truly immersive, safe and enjoyable driving experience.

Automatic headlights and the Grande’s rain sensing windscreen wipers, which even adjust for the amount of rain and the speed at which the vehicle is travelling, are just some of the intuitive technologies that set Camry apart.

Your phone’s address book is also accessible through the navigation screen once downloaded.

Under the bonnet, Camry has an all-alloy four-cylinder 2.4 litre VVT-i engine that combines smoothness with power and responsiveness, and improves fuel efficiency by 11% from the previous model.̊

Technologically advanced VVT-i puts the driver firmly in control, giving them access to maximum power or economy depending on the driver’s needs. With 117kW available for overtaking, hill climbing and standing starts, VVT-i automatically adjusts to more efficient settings when cruising. ˚ Automatic transmission only.

I N T E L L I G E N T T R A N S M I S S I O N

Camry’s VVT-i engine can be matched to a sporty five-speed manual transmission on Altise and Sportivo models or an intelligent electronically controlled five-speed automatic with gated shift available across the range. The gated shift automatic allows the driver to manually select a gear and hold it for greater responsiveness and control, when needed.

The Sportivo model’s sports suspension package delivers an exhilarating ride, with low profile Michelin® tyres providing outstanding grip, and a sharper, flatter steering response. Combine this with engine speed-sensitive power steering and the rigidity of an extra rear brace, and the Sportivo is a true sports driving experience that now comes with the extra luxury of dual zone air conditioning.

A N A L L U R I N G P L AC E TO B EDesigned to integrate driver and vehicle, the Camry’s luxury interior is crafted with high attention to detail for superb levels of comfort.

The cabin envelopes the driver, with adjustable seats, lumbar support and tilt and telescopic steering wheel putting the driver in the perfect driving position.

Controls and switches are positioned instinctively, exactly where the driver expects them to be. The premium steering wheel on the Grande, for example, incorporates stereo controls for easy access while driving.

Information panels are within natural sightlines. Simple, elegant graphics provide uncluttered information at a glance.

New airbag technology affords the driver a lighter, more responsive premium steering wheel in the Ateva, Grande and Sportivo models.

Soft surface finishes and textures invite touch. Visually, the driving environment emphasises pleasing chrome silvers and greys, and even woodgrain-look trim on the Grande. Easy on the eye, these colours and textures reduce glare, keeping the driver focused on the road. Bespoke seat trim textures and colours are also available in all models.

The Camry’s sound insulation technology means a quieter, less fatiguing drive while allowing full appreciation of the car’s powerful Bluetooth™^ compatible stereo system. The Altise now comes equipped with six speakers, while the Grande has eight, including a sub woofer and amplifier. And USB compatibility comes standard on Ateva, and is optional on Altise and Sportivo.

The cavernous boot has an impressive 535 litre capacity with 60/40 split rear seats (except on Sportivo – which features a ski port and a 504 litre capacity) for easy access from the cabin to the boot and the ability to transport those longer items.

In keeping with its racing pedigree, the Sportivo model is distinguished by a unique interior including sports seating with large side bolsters for increased support when cornering, black and alloy accents and a premium steering wheel.

GRANDEThe flagship of the Camry range, the Grande is an essay in sophisticated luxury technology. It is differentiated by a prestigious leather-accented interior and stylish woodgrain-look trim; an optional power tilt and slide glass moonroof with sunshade, Audio Visual Navigation system† with Bluetooth™^ phone technology; steering-wheel mounted phone and audio controls; rain-sensing windscreen wipers; power rear sunshade; an eight speaker stereo (including a sub woofer and amplifier); Smart Entry and Start System; and an electro chromatic rear view mirror that adjusts to reduce glare - all appointments designed to impress and appreciate.

From a safety perspective, Driver Assist Technology (DAT) which includes Active Braking with intelligence (AB-i), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control (TRC) comes standard. As well as front driver and passenger, dual side and curtain SRS airbags.

In addition, there is a 2.4 litre Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) engine and a choice of a gated five speed intelligent electronic automatic or five-speed manual transmission, automatic headlights, cruise control, 16” alloy wheels and tyres, power driver’s lumbar support and a 6 speaker, Bluetooth™^ enabled sound system that’s compatible with your MP3 player, with steering wheel controls.

Thanks to Toyota’s Safe-T-Cell technology, occupants are protected by energy absorbing material in the door trims, pillars and roof side rails. The front seats employ Toyota’s WIL (Whiplash Injury Lessening) designed to reduce the chance of neck injury in a rear-end collision as well as pre-tensioner and force limiter seatbelts in case of front on collisions.

Camry also features LED stop lamps that activate quicker than traditional filament light bulbs, giving the driver behind increased reaction time.

Camry also has a range of features that reduce the chance of injury to pedestrians, including crash energy absorbing brackets in the front fenders and a specially designed bonnet structure with reduced ‘hard points’ and increased clearance to under-bonnet engine components.

AB-i is a world class braking package made up of an Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist (BA).

ABS minimises skidding while allowing you to brake in the shortest practical distance.

The sophisticated EBD feature reduces stopping distances by maximising braking power to the wheels with the most grip.

Another feature of AB-i is Brake Assist. BA anticipates your needs by automatically interpreting a quick, hard push of the brake pedal as potentially dangerous situation. When this happens it instantly supplements braking power, slowing the car more rapidly.

T R A C T I O N C O N T R O L ( T R C ) A S S TA N D A R D

When accelerating in conditions such as wet or gravel roads, or with one wheel on a more slippery surface, TRC prevents the front wheels from slipping, helping the driver maintain traction.

V E H I C L E S TA B I L I T Y C O N T R O L ( V S C ) A S S TA N D A R D

VSC employs the technology of the braking and traction control systems to help anticipate and control skidding when cornering. By reducing engine output as well as controlling the brakes individually on all 4 wheels, VSC assists you when the corner is surprisingly tight or slippery.

If for any reason the Camry experiences a front or rear wheel slide when cornering, VSC will help you bring the vehicle back on course.

S R S A I R B A G S

All Camry models now come with 6 SRS airbags, which deploy according the intensity of the collision, minimising injury from both the accident and the deployment of the airbag itself. Front driver and passenger SRS airbags along with dual side and full-length curtain SRS airbags provide protection throughout the entire cabin.

F U EL CONSU M P TION & EMIS SIONS

Fuel consumption is modest at 8.9L/100 km for the manual and has been reduced down to 8.8L/100 km for the automatic.

With regular unleaded petrol, the Camry easily meets Australian emission standards and stringent Euro IV standards. The Camry is also able to use petrol with up to 10% ethanol content (E1O) resulting in even lower greenhouse gas emissions.

Camry is manufactured with the environment in mind. Environmentally conscious manufacturing processes are designed to ensure waste and energy usage are kept to a minimum.

The car is easier to recycle thanks to new material markings, dismantling marks and special slits in the connecting joints. More recyclable materials (such as Toyota Super Olefin Polymer, Toyota Plastic Olefin and Thermo Plastic Urethane) are used generously throughout the vehicle.

Active Braking with intelligence is a world class braking package made up of Anti-skid Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD).

ABS allows the driver to continue to steer around an obstacle under emergency braking. It prevents the wheels from skidding by rapidly ‘pulsing’ each brake independently, helping the driver retain control of steering whilst minimising stopping distance.

Designed to assist the driver in emergency braking situations, BA interprets a quick, hard push of the brake pedal as emergency braking and supplements the braking power so that the car slows more rapidly.

DAT is the collective term for the active safety technologies which may include (VSC), (TRC) and (AB-i). These technologies optimise the level of steering, braking response and grip on the road and provide enhanced control to avoid accidents.

DVD Satellite Navigation finds the right route faster and has more map storage capacity than traditional CD ROM based systems. Current mapping database encompasses major capital and primary national road networks as well as offering some coverage in regional areas.

EBD minimises stopping distances by maximising braking power to the wheels with the most grip. This is effective when the vehicle’s stability is unsettled due to a sudden swerve when braking or when you’re braking with a load in the boot or with passengers in the rear.

TRC is a safety technology that senses when a wheel slips under acceleration and brakes each wheel independently and reduces engine power, distributing appropriate power to the wheel with the greatest traction.

VSC prevents loss of control by dampening understeer (front wheel sideways skid) and oversteer (rear wheel sideways skid).

Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) improves low and mid-range engine torque, enhancing fuel economy and reducing emissions. It also maximizes engine power at higher revs.
