SF’s Straw Ban – How W e Made New Normal
• Surfrider SF started a straw ban campaign, Plastic Straws Suck, in 2015 urging SF to pass a plastic straw ban.
• We went door to door asking restaurants, bars and institutions to stop using plastic straws.
• We convinced more than 100 business to stop using plastic or compostable plastic and switch to paper or reusable straws upon request
• We celebrating restaurants and bars who made the switch without government / policy intervention
• We made using a paper straw or no straw a common and normal occurrence and made the concept approachable and easy
