GK left in good hands
I have just arrived back from some personal leave and am extremely grateful to have had a great support team to keep everything rolling as it should in my absence. Thanks to Shannon Whelan, Jenny Hopkin and Julie Collins for all their hard work over the past few weeks and also to our staff for chugging along at such a busy time of year.
2018 Prep Information Night and transition sessions
Many of our 2018 Prep families attended an information session last night that aimed to familiarise parents a little more about what to expect when beginning at GK next year. We have 103 students ready to begin with five prep classes planned, one more than this year.
Last night the 2018 Prep Team were announced consisting of Angela Totino, Marisa Pace, Luisa Rinaldi, Sandra Febbraro and Lisa Tsobanopoulos. These teachers are al-ready focused on ensuring our new students transition positively with upcoming transition sessions planned and Prep Orientation Day on December 7th. I thank Angela Totino and our current team for all their work in preparing for our comprehensive transition program.
Currently all other staffing and classes are being confirmed, with teachers having this information ready to share on Tuesday 5th December during the first Year 1—Year 6 Orientation Day.
The following class structure will be in place for Year 1—Year 6 in 2018:
SEESAW PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT 7pm—8pm Tuesday 28th November—Please see next page for details.
STATE BASKETBALL FINALS—Monday we have our boys team representing GK at the State Finals and we wish them all the very best on this day.
What do we Value? RESPECT
Last Friday our community stopped on November 10th at 11.00am as a mark of respect in the day leading up to November 11th—Remembrance Day. Our school leaders led the ceremony with some information about why we take time to reflect on the sacrifices others have endured for our freedom. We then stopped for our minute silence with 100% respect. A wreath was laid at our ANZAC bollard to signify our level of respect on the day. Lest We Forget
Have a great week. LeanneLeanneLeanneLeanne

Seesaw Parent Information Night
SeeSaw is a digital portfolio that we have been slowly implementing since 2016, with the Preps, Year 1, Year 5 and Year 6 students and families. Currently we are still using our traditional paper portfolios in Year 2, 3 and 4 however this changes next year with SeeSaw replacing this Prep to Year 6. The digital portfolio has enabled our students and families to share learning instantly. Our students are empowered to independently document their learning and parents gain immediate feed into their child’s school day. Communication between teachers and parents can also be strengthened. Libby Downey, our
ICT Leader and Year 5 teacher, will be co-facilitating a SEESAW PARENT INFORMATION SESSION on Tues-day 28th November 7.00pm-8.00pm in the library. If you are interested in attending please return the slip below or contact the school to RSVP before Friday 24th November.

Please return to school or RSVP our office by Friday 24th November.
We are refocusing on our vision, values and pedagogical principles.
Your voice is important in continuing to grow the culture and climate we want at GK. These
simple tasks will assist in doing this. They may sound strange but the collation process cleverly
helps articulate what each member of our community values.
Please complete online by Friday 17th November (TOMORROW) at
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/FVHWCYG. Thank you to all our families who have already
provided their voice by submitting feedback—much appreciated.

I have a black Jeanswest Jacket Size 8 that has been left in the canteen by one of my lovely helpers. Please feel free to pop in and collect it or let us know who to send it home with via the classroom. Also have a black folding umbrella looking for it’s home.
I am having some leave and unfortunately will not be back until 2018. I am leaving the canteen in the capable hands of Jenny Robert-
shaw & Christine McFarlane. If you have an issue with your rostered day, please contact the office or SMS Jenny on 0402800348.
Thank you to everyone who has been part of the GK Canteen team this year, best of luck to those whose babies are now moving on to
Secondary Schooling. I’d love to hear how they are settling in.
Of course, that also means that as we are heading to the end of the year, I will be pestering for help on the roster for 2018. If you are

Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund
The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to a5end ac6vi6es like:
• school camps or trips
• swimming and school-organised sport programs
• outdoor educa6on programs
excursions and incursions.
Applicaons for 2017 closed at the end of term 2 2017. Applicaons will re-open in term 1 2018.
To be eligible, on the first day of term one (29 January 2018) or the first day of term two (18 April 2018), a parent or legal
guardian of a student must:
be an eligible beneficiary of one of these cards:
- Veterans Affairs Gold Card
- Centrelink Health Care Card
- Pensioner Concession Card
OR they must be a temporary foster parent
OR the student is 16 years or older and holds a valid concession card (such as a Youth Allowance Health Care Card)
AND the parent or legal guardian must submit an applica6on by the due date.
Payments are:
$125 per year for eligible primary school students
$225 per year for eligible secondary school students.
Payments are made directly to the school and are 6ed to the student. Most payments start from March onwards.
Applica6ons can be received over term one and two. Payments are for the applica6on year and cannot be claimed for pre-
vious years.
Year 7 and Prep students in government schools who receive the fund are also able to get support for school uniforms. For
more informa6on regarding this ini6a6ve, see: State Schools' Relief
The CSEF payment cannot be used towards voluntary school charges, books, sta6onery, school uniforms, before/aDer
school care, music lessons, or formals/gradua6ons.
Submit an applicaon
You need to complete an applica6on form and submit it to your school. You should do this as soon as possible in term one,
as payments are made from March onwards. Applica6on forms are now available from the office.
Schools will be able to accept and process applica6ons up un6l the end of term two each year.
You generally only need to submit an applicaon form once. Your school will then rollover your informaon from the
previous year. This is a new process from 2018 onwards.
You will need to submit a new form if:
• it's a new student enrolment: the student has started or changed schools or you did not apply with the same
school in 2017
• there has been a change in family circumstances: such as a change of custody, change of name or CRN or new sib-
lings commencing at the school.
Keep up to date......

Idea 2 is for to raise money for the Banyule Children’s Gift Appeal. Each grade is asked to collect spare change over the coming weeks. The Communi-ty IMPACT Group will then buy a present and deliver it to the Banyule Coun-cil Offices. They will then use these gifts in gift packs for children aged up to 16 years of age in our school’s local area (Banyule). We hope you can help us make a difference! The Community IMPACT Group
Idea 1 is to collect non-perishable foods for the Salvation Army Food Appeal. We have placed a box in the office where food can be donated. This will make a huge impact on families who struggle to put food on the table at Christmas time.
