Hi, and welcome to the first issue of Everyday Inspiration e-magazine. My name is Larissa and I am the owner of Perception Coaching and the manager of a Revolutionary Health and Fitness Facility on the Gold Coast, Australia.

Firstly I have to say that I am blessed to be able to include articles on some of the most amazing people I have crossed paths with.

I originally had the idea to create this magazine as I speak to many people who have amazing dreams, goals and aspirations who, at times can feel the challenges of everyday life overtaking the vision they hold for them-selves and the world.

Whilst you create what is you truly desire for yourself, be inspired by the stories of triumph and success I will be bringing you between the covers of

this publication. From the lips of Oprah Winfrey:

“Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher”

Until next time

Embrace both challenge and support to fulfil your vision and never give up! Larissa Halls xx

We all have a relationship with food, we eat it every-day, three times a day, some-times more. But how often do we question our relation-ship with food. Often I catch myself thinking, what shall I eat, or I would like to eat that – but it is not often that I ask myself why I eat this?

What we choose for our daily munch literally changes our bodies and affects the world, yes, you heard me right, THE WORLD! Like it or not, un-less you are a yogi breatha-rian living in the depths of the tropics, food will influ-ence our lives, brains, and our future!

The food we choose to pur-

chase affects how farm-ers grow it, how our land is treated, how industry packs it, how people are paid, how animals are treated, how economies grow and how countries are shaped. That limp sandwich you hold in your hand literally has the power to influence farmers in different countries, the lives of employees in a plas-tic factory abroad and fur-thermore, your own feelings and emotional responses.

The effect of food on our feelings is well know, a high carb diet can make us sleepy, that sugary treat makes our brain operate faster. There-fore, is it true, that what we put in us,

Cotinued......changes our personality and there-fore our choices, our relationships and our lives?

My old kung-fu instructor certain-ly thought so, he would say that we can even feel the vibrations of who cooked our food and where it is from. Could eating animals that live in cramped or killed in a fear-ful environment affect our mood? When we cook our food, will it feel better to eat if we are mindful of what we are making?

Personally my relationship with food has changed quite a bit over the last 5 years, from my college drinking, kebab munching days, toward a more whole food organic existence. I had no real desire to change my diet, I did it for a bet, a bet with a guy that I fancied, be-come a vegetarian for a whole year. Why not I thought, it may even get me laid.

It was an insane experience that has changed the way I am affected by food forever. If I ate now what I ate then, I would be able to see the ef-fect on my feelings immediately. If I go out drinking now, I am slower the next day. The other day I ate an enormous slice of sugary chocolate cake with icing and I was off this planet. It is weird as previously I would not have noticed a change in my behaviour.

This personal experience has lead me to wonder what the effect of what I am eating is on my day to day life. By monitoring my behaviour or feelings and correlating them with the food I am eating, I am try-ing to adopt an eating lifestyle that allows me to live well. I think this is different for each individual, but for myself a whole food vegan diet is great at the moment.

This choice is not only for my per-sonal benefit, and took place after watching the film Earthlings, I be-lieve the way animals are farmed is harmful to their lives, and I do not wish to harm them. Luckily for me, my body is happy on a ve-gan diet.

This journey into the world of food led me to raw food. Previously the closest I would get to raw veg-etables would be some grated car-rot on my ham sandwich, so the change has been quite radical. I have to say, though it sounds odd, raw food desserts are absolutely incredible. The chocolate avoca-do mousse (with its three ingre-dients, cacao, avocado and dates) blows my mind. The savoury food is just as delightful, cous cous made from cauliflower, zuc-chini pasta, beetroot pie. Though the thought of raw food initially sounded disgusting , the taste and the way it makes you feel can only be described as amazing. It’s kind

of like a foot massage, I mean re-ally, when you first have one – you don’t really expect it to be good.

We run raw food classes on the Gold Coast and Brisbane which cover great recipes that are made from whole food ingredients, and are also gluten-free, sugar-free and dairy-free. Check out our website www.roarfood.com.au or email [email protected] for more information.

How many times have you heard “If I can do it, so can you”? Oh how I’ve always hated it when people say that! The good news in this case is that it’s true. The bad news; and I won’t pull any punches, is that it’s bloody hard work. But wait, I’m jumping ahead. Let’s start at the be-ginning.Growing up in a working class fam-ily to parents who hadn’t completed high school, meant that there were never any great expectations for my future. The only thing I needed to do was get a job when I finished year 10. TAFE was the only expec-tation for me. Learn some sort of trade and life is complete. I used to watch movies about Amer-ican’s going off to university and get-ting up to shenanigans, never once realising that Australia had univer-sities! Pretty dumb, hey? Well that’s what my-self image was; DUMB. Yep Dumbo the Jumbo. You got it. Big, fat and ugly.I lived up to my parent’s expectation and got a job as a check out chick part time while I was at school. I was so good at it that when the boss found out I was leaving school at the end of year 10 he offered me a job. Yippee! I had made the big time. My parents were proud and I was fairly happy with myself too. I

was earning $95 a week and work-ing 45 hours. I remember dreaming at that time about how wonderful it would be to earn $500 a week.Life was good and I was going from strength to strength at work, or so I thought. The bosses valued my input and I worked hard. Then the Management Trainee positions came up. I applied along with two mates, they were successful and I wasn’t. The reason? I might want to have babies one day and then all the management training would be for nothing. The company didn’t want to invest time and money into women. If I only knew then what I know now! My response was leav-ing. I went to another supermarket chain who assured me that they val-ued women and I would be given opportunities there. It took them less than a week to go back on the terms we had negotiated. I left a short time after.

YOU CAN DO IT!

My parents always stipulated that I needed to have another job before I quit the one I had. After the sec-ond supermarket chain experience I didn’t. I was almost 17 and made the first real decision about my des-tiny. But boy did I cop it when I got home! I understand the parent’s re-sponse because you just don’t know how a teenager is going to think. They really needed to have more faith in me; or so I thought. They were insistent that I go and get the dole. I went to the place to get the dole. How depressing and de-grading it was; I swore to myself I would never set foot in there again. Within two days I had been offer two jobs. I took the one I thought had the best prospects; working in a jewellery store.I could go on for a while but I think you get the picture. I went from job to job, 17 times. Each time I took the skills I had gained and tried for a job a little bit further from my reach. Yes, this was my idea of climbing the ladder. I enrolled in many TAFE courses but never re-ally found anything interesting enough to finish in the early days. After I married I found myself liv-ing in Darwin and doing another job I considered out of my reach. I worked in accounts and was earn-

ing $25K at around 21 years old. I didn’t think it would ever be pos-sible for me to earn any more than that. I always told my husband that I would never be able to earn the amount of money he did.I met a woman who convinced me to do a business course at TAFE, which incidentally was in the uni-versity. Wow, Australia has a uni-versity! Who knew?More jobs, a move back to Sydney, more TAFE courses (six years part time in all), ill health and then a baby. Phew! Four weeks maternity leave and at 29, I return to work. I now work at a university! Can you believe that? They hired my seven months pregnant; fortunately for me.

“In fact I gave up everything except working,

studying, eating and sleep-ing. My husband and son were incredibly supportive.”

The university is a great place to work and they also invest a great deal in their staff by skilling them up. I did in house courses and came out with the equivalent of TAFE qualifications. A work mate who also did the courses came to me one day and asked me to clarify something about a course we did because he is applying to univer-sity. One thing led to another and we ended up applying together. Turned out we were study buddies to the end and both of us claim we couldn’t have done it without the other. But I am getting ahead of myself again. At the age of 45 I followed my mate blindly into a postgraduate course. Turned out that with the work ex-perience I had plus the in house training, I could skip the under-

graduate course and go straight into graduate certificate and better yet, if we did it full time we could have it done in six months. Too bad it turned out that we enrolled in the wrong course! Of course we weren’t going to tell anyone and just con-centrated on getting it done. Igno-rance is bliss. We had no idea what we were signing up for at the time and how much work it would be in addition to working full time and having families and other commit-ments.I put my life on hold and put eve-rything into study. I gave up soccer coaching which was the thing that I loved the best. In fact I gave up everything except working, study-ing, eating and sleeping. My hus-band and son were incredibly sup-portive.

Page 16: Everyday Inspiration magazine

Just prior to completing the graduate certificate the uni contacted us and told us that if we continue onto our Masters of Business and Commerce we only had to do four more units. We were hesitant but with family sup-port to continue and the fact that we wanted that title, we enrolled into the course. We dropped back to a part time load and took a year to com-plete the Masters. It was HARD!!!!After a total of 18 months I had completed two university degrees. I am now 46 and about to attend my second graduation. I am now earning $100K+ and run my own department using all of the skills I gained along the way. The degree cements my credibility in a competitive world. So you see, “If I can do it, so can you”. I am nothing special. I know now that people aren’t all that different. What I considered to be smart really isn’t and we really are all human. Now I really can do anything I put my mind to; I am starting boot camp for the very first time. I am taking all 130kg’s of me off to the park three times a week. But that may turn out to be a story for another day.

THE HAPPINESS FORMULA

Page 19: Everyday Inspiration magazine

ISSUE 1 | 0417 041 165 | WWW.PERCEPTIONCAOCHING.COM | EVERYDAY INSPIRATION | 19

Think for a moment. What would you like most in this world? What are people search-ing for? What are you search-ing for when you change job, buy a new car, score a new boy-friend, embark on a journey to lose weight, get bigger boobs, botox and wake up every day longing for?The answer is happiness. I’ve heard this from hundreds of people “I just want to be hap-py”! “I just want to feel good and be happy!”In 2011 I was fortunate to be part of the crew at a Tony Rob-bins event in Australia called Date with Destiny. I met a man named Gary King who was head of Robbins se-curity team. I was told that when Gary speaks, you listen! Like the obedient worker that I am I listened intently to his security talk about the event. “Don’t do this, report that, I know you’d all like to think everyone here is honest but that aint the truth” he spoke to us for about half an hour in hiss thick yankee accent.

He looked like a strong man, a tough man, a man you don’t give any crap to. He kinda re-minded me of my Dad.“I know these types of guys” I thought to myself “ tough on the outside and soft as marsh-mellow on the inside”.They say your gut feeling with first impressions are always right, well this one was no ex-ception, I got this one spot on.After Gary’s Security lecture we were told that Gary was going to give an inspiring talk for our group, if we were lucky. From security lectures to in-spiring talks, this guys got it all going on.Well, Gary certainly came through with the goods. His life story was absolutely touch-ing (i’ll check with him before I share it with you. watch out for it in the next issue).Gary teaches self-worth and pesonal development in schools accross the world as he believes this is more important now that ever before in time, for our children to develop their self - worth.

THE JASON KING FOUNDATIONGary created the Jason King Foundation in honour of his son. The mission of the foundation is:The mission of The Jason King Foundation is to support World Wide Self Worth Education. This project will be facilitated through printed material, video presentations, books, and live seminars. The focus in on combined financial and personal resources to benefit creating a worldwide support sys-tem to bring forth Healthy Self Worth to children, parents, corporations and prisons, and especially in SCHOOLS and RETURNING MILITARY . No human should suffer with the low self worth epidemic disease, especially when there is a SOLUTION.

In August this year Gary’s son took his own life, as a result of suffering low self-worth. He bore the bur-don of not feeling good enough, feeling like he never amounted to anything worthwhile. After this tragedy Gary King swore that the pain of losing his son would fuel his mission to in-crease the self- worth of children whom he met through his speak-ing, events and mentoring pro-grams.I can personally vouch that Gary has touched not only the lives of many children but also changed the lives of adults whilst teaching his happiness formula.

So what is Gary’s happiness for-mula? Here it is:

F2HT2SW=HF10

The F stands for Forgiveness. This includes self and others.

HT stands for being honest with yourself and truthful with other people.

SW stands for self worth. This in-

cludes not comparing yourself to others and honouring who you are as an individual.

Put this all together and you have the happiness formula.

Gary promotes the art of telling the truth. This is absolute honesty at all times. Garry say’s “we cannot lie to our-selves and others, without it hav-ing an effect on our exterior per-sonal lives, but also at a cellular level”.We’re all conditioned to believe that some lies are acceptable. But, in reality, there are costs and con-sequences to our lives whenever we lie, including stress, low self-esteem and even disease.Check in with yourself and get to-tally honest. Could you be more truthful with yourself and others? Is it time to forgive? Or is it time to stop beating yourself up and honour yourself in order to increase your self worth.Learn more about Gary King and his happiness formula at: www.thehappinessformula.tv
