OUR CHANGING WORLD DICK EASTMAN

“How great is the Lord! How much we should praise him.” (Psalm 48:1, TLB)

round 500 B.C., Greek philosopher Heraclitus made one of the most accurate statements of all time: “Change is the only

constant in life.” If that was unwelcome news back in his day, imagine if he and his peers could have a glimpse of today’s world. We are living in what is referred to as the “information age.” According to recent reports, the sum-total of human knowledge doubles every two to three years and is soon expected to double every year. Our medical knowledge doubles every seven years, scientific information every five years, technical knowledge every three years, and online information every six months.

Yet in the midst of our rapidly changing world, one thing that hasn’t changed is Every Home for Christ’s dedication to the Great Commission. This month we celebrate 69 years of ministry, and I am thrilled to say we are still on a steady course toward our goal of reaching every home on Earth with the Gospel. Our strategy remains simple, yet effective: Everybody lives somewhere, so we take the Gospel to them in the non-threatening atmosphere of their homes.

The results have been remarkable. More than 1.7 billion households have received the Good News—400 million in the last five years alone. Our indigenous pioneer missionaries reach an average of 250,000 homes a day, and in the past five years more than 70 million people have responded to the Gospel. Currently we’re seeing as many as 45,000 new seekers respond to our home-to-home campaigns every day! As they respond, these new believers and seekers are integrated with local church partners or guided into one of our 271,000 Christ Group fellowships for follow-up biblical discipleship.

As you can see, we have reason to celebrate—God has been so faithful to this ministry! In the pages that follow you’ll see how our foundational pillars of prayer (page 4), home-to-home evangelism (page 10) and follow-up discipleship of new believers (page 8) are not only transforming individual lives, they’re impacting families and entire communities.

Though many things have changed since 1946, the mission of Every Home for Christ has not. And as long as Jesus tarries, we’ll be delivering the Gospel throughout the world—one home at a time.

hat Every Home for Christ does over 16 million times a year seems impossible.

Followers of Jesus encounter people they have never met to share their stories. They share that they were lost and without hope until the love of Jesus changed everything. At the end of these long and vulnerable conversations, the people hearing the truth about God want to repent and change. They want to follow Jesus, and their lives are impacted for eternity.

This is a miracle we never take for granted. But it’s only human to wonder how this is

possible. How can a whole life be transformed after one conversation? The truth is—it usually isn’t. The work begins long before with prayer

for that encounter, and it continues long after with discipleship. Every outreach is prayed for locally with home meetings and prayer walks by the pastors and pioneer missionaries involved. And it is prayed for internationally at the Every Home for Christ headquarters as the staff prays together for teams around the world, and prayer meetings for global initiatives are held day and night in The Jericho Center.

These prayers are focused on three primary requests: For God to send more laborers to the lost, for God to open the minds and hearts of the people hearing about the Gospel and for God to protect the Every Home for Christ workers risking their lives to fulfill the Great Commission.

A practical way prayer and outreach work together is seen in the current mission in Haiti. “Prayers from our Every Home for Christ brothers and sisters are very important to us,” says Pastor Jules Joseph, National Director of Every Home for Christ Haiti. “We see how they can open up opportunities and how they can break down barriers and remove obstacles.”

The obstacles and barriers Pastor Joseph faces every day are countless. Haiti is still recovering from the devastating earthquake that killed 230,000 and displaced 1.5 million people in 2010. Five years later, reminders of that catastrophic event are everywhere. Half-destroyed buildings line the streets of Port-au-Prince. Local Haitians live in considerably worse

conditions than they did before. People are hurt, tired and often hostile to those who come to share the Gospel.

Every day, Pastor Joseph sees firsthand the difficulties the people of his country face. Often, the only form of spirituality comes from tribal rituals, voodoo and a distorted form of Catholicism. He longs for the spiritually broken in his country to be restored and made whole. “We believed God would do something,” he says. “We prayed to God and asked for Him to change the hearts and minds of those hearing the Word.”

Pastor Joseph was praying in the way Scripture teaches us to pray. In Matthew 6, Jesus teaches us to pray

in the Sermon on the Mount, and He ends His prayer with, “May your kingdom come and your will be done.” Paul also shows us how to pray in Ephesians 3 when he prays that others would grasp how high and wide and deep is the love of the Lord.

These kinds of prayers have been the foundation of the Church since it began.

And they still work today.“God answered the prayers,” Pastor Joseph says.

“People in our area were reached with the Gospel.” In Every Home for Christ Haiti’s latest outreach, 354 people devoted their lives to Jesus—and the work done in their heats began before the pioneer missionaries ever spoke a word.

Pastor Joseph could feel the prayers from others around the world. “So many people around the world are praying for the work we are doing,” he says. “It

6

1 2

means spiritual progress for the Every Home for Christ ministry in Haiti.”

These prayers inspired him to lead a concentrated national effort called The Harvest Prayer Mobilization Project. Pastor Joseph has already begun to meet with local pastors and church leaders to give them the vision of the project. “I am asking them to mobilize believers to learn how to pray for God to open doors,” he says. “We are praying for more workers to mobilize the harvest.

As people begin to follow Jesus, we are inviting them to pray for others.”

The Every Home for Christ strategy is unfolding in a practical and profoundly impacting way in Haiti. Prayers are opening doors to a country that has been spiritually oppressed and closed off to the Gospel. Hearts and minds are being changed before the door-to-door outreaches even begin. And the pioneer missionaries are being protected in the dangerous Haitian landscape.

“As our Every Home for Christ workers are traveling, trying to reach people for Christ, they are exposed to dangers,” Pastor Joseph says. “These prayers mean protection and deliverance for those trying to reach every home for Christ.” He has seen God’s protection for the faithful who step out to share the Gospel. They feel protected and encouraged because so many are praying for their efforts. It feels like they are not alone but part of a greater family. The project is beginning now, and it will continue through next year.

There is still a lot of work to do. But it’s incredible to hear the story about how prayer is changing a nation. Someday, maybe in this life or the next, the people in Haiti will meet the others who prayed for them. What will that moment be like? What will their faces show as they hear about the hundreds or even thousands who were praying for their souls? Hopefully they will feel comforted and cared for because so many prayed that they would know how high and wide and deep God’s love is for them.

That’s in the future, and we have no idea what those conversations will be like. But we do know that God’s kingdom is coming in Haiti now—one prayer at a time.

n urgent plea for prayer went out the moment we heard that a catastrophic earthquake had ravished Nepal last April. You immediately

joined us in fervent prayer for the protection of the Every Home for Christ Nepal staff and volunteer workers. Several days later, we received the wonderful news that National Director David Lepcha and his team were all accounted for.

Our joy turned to heartache when we learned one of our Christ Groups had been meeting near the epicenter when the earthquake hit. The home they were gathered in collapsed on them. The news took some time to absorb. In an instant, the group of new believers went from worshipping their Savior to meeting Him face to face. We praised God that they had come to know Him.

In spite of losing their own homes, the Every Home for Christ staff went immediately to the streets to demonstrate

the love of Jesus to their traumatized nation. Your prayers enabled them to minister in such challenging circumstances.

We told you in an email update that David Lepcha had shared his vision for Nepal with our leaders. He reported that his team had reached 600,000 homes with the Gospel in 2014—an astounding number for the Hindu nation.

David then shared that the Lord had given him a vision to reach even more homes with the Gospel in 2015—900,000. His goal far exceeded any he’d set in the past. But David had no idea that just weeks later, his nation would be paralyzed by trauma.

Thousands of families lost their homes and are now living in makeshift tents—including our Every Home for Christ workers. Yet, they’ve put their own needs aside to help meet the needs of others.

The events of last April have forced the people of Nepal into a new reality: life as they’ve known it will never be the

“While they were praying the girl made a dramatic improvement and was totally healed.”

same. But in these difficult times, God is revealing Himself to Nepal in unprecedented ways. Prayers are being answered, miracles are taking place and hearts once closed to the Gospel are embracing His love. It’s been a season of irony for the nation. When all seems lost, the hope of salvation is being received like never before.

As commitments to Christ are made, trained Every Home for Christ workers engage the new believers in discipleship classes where they learn to study the Word and apply it to their lives. It’s a critical next step that equips new Christians to live out their faith. Without it, many would remain in the infant stages of faith and stay there.

What God is doing in Nepal today is truly remarkable. Penetrating cultures so long separated from the Gospel isn’t easy. But our well-trained workers know the importance of awaiting the process. One of them—a seasoned pioneer missionary—could have easily become discouraged after a Maoist leader in his community rebuffed repeated attempts to share the Gospel. Each time our pioneer missionary was disregarded, but he never gave up. He stopped trying to share the Gospel and built a friendship with the headmaster instead, all the while praying that God would soften a hardened heart.

Some time later, the headmaster’s daughter became very ill. He took her to the local witch doctor, but the witch doctor couldn’t help. So the headmaster took her to another witch doctor, then another and yet another. None of the traditional healers could help his little girl. So as a last resort, the headmaster took her to his pioneer missionary friend and asked him to pray for her. Our pioneer missionary gathered a group of faith-filled believers and began to call on God for the girl’s healing. They prayed fervently without ceasing, asking God for a miracle. While they were praying the girl made a dramatic improvement and was totally healed.

There was no denying that God had answered their prayers. The sick girl’s mother put her faith in Christ that very day, but it took her father a little more time. Eventually, the entire family committed their lives to Christ and became part of a local church. There they completed Every Home for Christ’s discipleship training. On June 25, 2015, David Lepcha had the honor of baptizing this family of new believers.

Our workers in Nepal rely on the power of prayer to sustain them in these challenging times. Will you add them to your prayer list? Pray for health, stamina and provision for their families. They, too, have suffered great loss and hardship.

e called him “Brother N.” because using his real name put him at risk. He was a

deeply religious, sincere believer—but not in Jesus. He studied his faith tirelessly but had become disillusioned. The more he studied, the more he had questions his leaders couldn’t answer. So when he was invited to visit a Christian church, Brother N. went hoping to find the truth.

Everything about the service was foreign to him, yet Brother N. felt strangely at home among the believers. They welcomed him warmly and invited him in. He was amazed by their joy. He had no idea where it came from, but whatever they had, Brother N. wanted too.

Before that day was over, Brother N. gave his life to

Jesus. Almost instantly, he knew what he would do with the rest of his life—he would tell others about Jesus too. It was a decision he was absolutely sure of and one that would cost him everything. His friends and family severed all ties with him. Even his wife became hostile and turned their children against him. But for Brother

N., there was no turning back. He had finally found peace knowing his sins were forgiven.

Brother N. made it his personal mission to take the Gospel to the far corners of his nation, where no one else had gone. He spent his own money on evangelism tools and his own time heading into the wilderness. He traveled however he could. Sometimes he went on horseback, other times by donkey and cart. Now and

then, he went by borrowed bicycle. He became such an avid soul-winner, someone even loaned him a car so he could go even farther and reach more souls for Christ.

Within just a few years, Brother N. traveled thousands of miles and touched hundreds of lives with the hope of salvation. One of those was an elderly blind woman who lived alone miles from her nearest neighbor. Her only companions were her hens—brooders who never left their eggs. When Brother N. found her isolated home, he shared the Gospel and told the old woman that God loved her. But she said she wasn’t interested, so Brother N. thanked her for her time and went on his way.

While doing her chores the next day, the old blind woman became confused and wandered from her yard. When she realized she didn’t know where she was, her confusion turned to panic—she was helpless and could

be lost out there for days. Then she recalled Brother N.’s words about God’s love for her. She begged God to help her. Suddenly, she heard a familiar sound coming from behind her. It was unmistakable. It was the clucking of a chicken. Had one of her hens followed her? But brooders never left their eggs. The woman decided to follow the sound. The chicken led her all the way home.

The next time Brother N. visited her, the old woman told him how she had gotten lost but God sent a chicken to lead her home. She was ready to put her

faith in Christ. Brother N. had the joy of leading her to Christ that day.

Brother N. was a passionate evangelizer who went the extra mile to deliver the Gospel to those who had never heard. An avid learner, he loved to help pastors and church leaders grow in their knowledge of God’s Word. He was a well-loved member of his community who was always looking for ways to make it better—especially for the children.

When Brother N. was stricken with cancer earlier this year, his wife agreed to take him back and care for

him. His children showed compassion too, and all but one apologized for the way they’d treated him over the years. Our dear brother spent his final days sharing the Gospel with his family, but he passed away without knowing if any of the seeds he planted took root. His funeral attracted believers from many nations. They came for two reasons: to honor an extraordinary evangelist and to demonstrate God’s love to his unbelieving family.

Brother N. spent his life leading lost souls to Jesus. We pray that his family will soon accept Jesus too.

Praise God for working in the hearts of unbelievers. They are seeking God, but they are afraid of how their friends and families will respond if they knew. Pray for the Lord to protect them and send believers to share the Gospel and disciple them. (Luke 21-24)

There are times of the day when it is easier to meet Russian people by walking on the street than by going to their homes. Our workers have taken advantage of this trend by sharing gospel messages with pedestrians. Please pray that these encounters will be fruitful for the kingdom. (John 1-3)

Mama Lindi’s family rejected her when she discovered that she was HIV positive. But when our workers came to her door, they prayed for her and showed her the love of Jesus. Please pray for God to heal her heart and fill her with hope again. (John 4-6)

An important access road in East Timor is inadequate for vehicles, so pioneer missionaries are forced to travel by foot. “But this does not diminish our passion to serve the Lord,” they said. Thank God for their faithfulness, and pray that He sustains them as they walk to share the Gospel. (John 13-15)

Pray for the ministry to children suffering with cancer. This ministry is growing rapidly as the children it reaches bring more and more of their friends. Please pray for God to heal these children, and pray for their hearts to be open to the Gospel. (John 16-18)

A rural people group in Mali raises its cows far from other villages, and many cannot read or write. This presents a challenge to our pioneer missionaries, but they are devoted to sharing the Gospel with this people group. Please pray as they reach out to this community. (John 19-21)

Workers in this country met a woman who is not a Christian, but she listens to Christian radio and is interested in Jesus. She wants to learn how to pray. Ask God to reveal Himself to her and surround her with gospel workers to love and lead her. (John 7-9)

Three hundred disciples received evangelism training and took the Gospel to 5,000 homes in Cocody—all in a single sweep! Praise God for their faithfulness. Please pray for both those who received Christ and those who are still considering. (John 10-12)

Thirty-two people from six different churches worked together to take the Gospel to thousands of homes in Velika Gorica. Some traveled over two hours to participate in the outreach. Please pray for every family that received the Good News. (Psalm 126-128)

Our pioneer missionaries often face travel difficulties in India. Many have to bike or walk, and they often don’t have shelter for overnight stays. Yet they courageously take the Gospel to remote tribal villages. Please pray for God to prepare the way for them and for many to be open to the Gospel. (Acts 1-4)

Gospel workers are often well received in Moldova, and the people they meet ask a lot of questions. Thank God that the lost are intrigued by the truth. Please pray that our workers will have wisdom from the Holy Spirit to answer their questions about the Gospel.(Acts 5:1-8:3)

In one month, gospel workers in Haiti reached 18,785 homes with the Gospel, and 435 people put their faith in Jesus! Praise God for the faithful efforts of our workers there, and please pray for the growing faith of these new believers.(Acts 8:4-11:18)

Our team has launched a new project called “Evangelizing on Wheels” to focus on reaching poor villages. There are unique challenges to ministering in these places. Please pray for the project to effectively reach hearts open to the Gospel. (Psalm 129-131)

A man named Niyogushimwa received a gospel message from our workers. The next day, he found them again and said that the message had kept him up all night. There in the street, Niyogushimwa prayed and became a Christian—and so did the crowd that had gathered around him. (Acts 11:19-14:28)

As our workers in Brazil reach out to rural communities, they are often overwhelmed by the poverty they encounter. Hunger and abuse is common. Please pray that God will guide them as they share the Good News with these hurting communities. (James)

NEPALIn Nepal, the Gospel often spreads through families. Fathers share it with their children, and sons join their fathers in sharing it with their communities. Please pray for hearts to be open to receive the Good News from these faithful families. (Galatians)

Our National Director in this country was recently summoned by government security forces and questioned about his work. Thankfully, nothing negative came of it—but please continue to pray for the safety and freedom of our workers. (Acts 15-17:10)

An 11-year-old boy named Yero in Guinea-Bissau says, “I am so glad to hear that Jesus died for me, and I accepted Him as my Savior. I am convinced that Jesus is the solution for my life. From today on, I want to serve Him forever.” Praise God! (Philippians)

Praise God that ALL the homes in the Philippine province of Bohol have now been reached with the Gospel. Please pray that hearts there will be open to receive the saving grace of Jesus and that new believers will find church families to help them grow in their faith. (1 Corinthians 1-3)

Gospel workers in Madagascar have partnered with OneHope and have been allowed into schools to share the Gospel with students and teachers. Please pray that those they reach will take the message of salvation home to their families. (1 Corinthians 4-7)

In a single month, over 100 churches in Peru were equipped and trained for home-to-home evangelism, and volunteers of all ages participated in taking the Gospel to their streets. Please pray that the message of the Good News will find hearts ready to receive it. (1 Corinthians 8:1-11:1)

Our organizers were disappointed when they expected 24 volunteers for an outreach in Puerto Nuevo and only nine showed up. But during that outreach, they saw the parents they reached share the Gospel with their children. Praise God that even a small seed can produce a big harvest. (1 Thessalonians)

A group of Christians was recently trained for evangelism in Burundi. A trainee named Evelyne said that she is grateful for the training and excited to see a great harvest. Please pray for Evelyne and her fellow evangelists as they spread the Good News in their community. (Psalm 132-134)

Our workers shared the Gospel with a woman entrenched in superstitions, like the “Armenian Evil Eye.” But when she heard that Jesus offers freedom from superstition, she gathered all her evil eye pieces and threw them out. Praise God!(2 Thessalonians; Acts 17:11-18:11)

Please pray for one of our gospel workers. He has known for some time that the police are tracking him, and he is concerned that he may soon be arrested for sharing the Gospel. Please pray for his protection and for God to soften the hearts of the police. (1 Corinthians 11:2-14:40)

Gospel workers in Tanzania have been well received. In the marketplace or on a farm, people drop what they are doing to listen to the message of salvation. Praise God for these open hearts, and please pray that they will become strong followers of Christ. (1 Corinthians 15-16)

Every Home for Christ Mexico is grateful to supporters for providing funds for gospel literature. “These materials have made our work easier and we have seen how people are more interested in Christ when they read the message,” a gospel worker said. Praise God! (Psalm 135-137)

Outreaches in Munhinga and Makamba seemed threatened when cult leaders convinced a local official to prohibit door-to-door evangelism. But God changed the situation when the official himself received Christ. Thank the Lord!(2 Corinthians 1-5)

ll eyes were on Haiti when a 7.0 earthquake hit the island nation in 2010. More than 230,000 deaths were confirmed, and 1.5 million survivors

were displaced. With its infrastructure in ruins, much of the world wondered if the tiny nation would survive.

At the time, Every Home for Christ did not have a presence in Haiti, but the earthquake caused our leaders to ask, “Why not?” If there was ever a need for the Gospel in Haiti, it was now. Plans were made to open an office in Haiti as soon as possible. Funding was arranged. Gospel literature and training and discipleship materials were created. In a matter of months everything was in place, except for one key piece—a Haitian leader to oversee the work. The job would require tenacious faith, bold initiative and a burning passion for the lost. Much prayer went into finding the right person for the job, believing God had someone specific in mind. He did. In fact, He’d been preparing that person for quite a long time.

Pastor Jules Joseph’s parents made sure he attended church on Sunday and read his Bible during the week. When he finished high school, Pastor Joseph’s parents sent him to Bible college in Port-au-Prince. It was there that he accepted God’s call on his life—Pastor Joseph was to preach the Gospel. After completing his degree, Pastor Joseph returned to his home town of Dessalines and became the pastor of Dessalines Christian Church.

Ten years later, in 2008, Pastor Joseph moved his

wife, Guerline, and their young daughter to the city of Gonaïves to start a church there. Pastor Joseph began the work of building his church in the way he found to be most effective—by knocking on doors. His personal approach worked, and his church began to grow. As it did, Pastor Joseph took his entire congregation to the streets. Home-to-home visits became their regular method of evangelism.

Pastor Joseph was visiting the U.S. when he obtained a video of one of Dick Eastman’s prayer seminars. He was so impacted by it that Pastor Joseph immediately contacted Every Home for Christ to learn more about the organization. It would turn out to be a providential conversation. When Every Home for Christ Haiti launched in 2011, Pastor Joseph became the National Director.

Pastor Joseph and a small team of pioneer missionaries have delivered the Gospel to more than 700,000 homes in their first five years. However, reaching Haiti’s entire population—10.1 million people—is going to require a lot more help. “Convincing our churches to set aside denominational differences and work together is a challenge in Haiti,” Pastor Joseph said. Please pray for Pastor Joseph as he encourages Haiti’s denominational leaders to work together through The Harvest Prayer Mobilization Project. “I’m not discouraged” he added, “It always brings me great joy anytime someone gives their life to the Lord!”
