Everything you need to know aboutCloud Storage By: Jonathan Sanborn Section 005

This is a presentation promoting cloud storage.1What is cloud storage?-A way of storing files via a service on the internet.

2

Basically cloud storage is an internet service that provides storage to computer users. 2What do I need to do to use cloud storage?- First, subscribe to a cloud storage service.-Next, upload/send files to the service.-Lastly, the service will record your files.-You can now access your files from any computer, any time to view, manipulate or use your files!3You can already see that cloud storage is convenient. It is also fast and easy! Since it is online, there is no need to worry about a natural disaster, fire or burglar destroying or stealing your files. 3How does it work?- The files that were sent/uploaded are stored in facilities called data centers.- The files are stored in huge data servers until they are needed by the user.

4

Its basically the same way your computer stores data, just at a different location on a different computer. The data you send to the service records it in one of their large servers (computers) until you need it. When you need your information you just access them through the service and they send your files from their computer to yours. 4Will my information be safe? - Cloud storage uses redundancy, so your files will always be ready for access and will be safe against any form of physical damage. - Everything is encrypted in code for protection from hackers.- Authentication of your profile using a user login and password. 5-Redundancy means storing the same files on different computers. Services do this because sometimes one of their servers might crash or die, but your information is still available because it was on a different server. -Hackers can not view or steal your files because everything is encrypted into a code, and hackers need the encryption key in order to decode and access your files. - Authentication is the use of a password and username to keep your information safe. 5Why should I use cloud storage?- No need to store on hard drive, USB or compact disk.-Access from anywhere with internet connection.- Allow other friends or colleagues to access your files. - Store huge files instantly.- Great for businesses that have large amounts of information that needs to be accessed in different locations. 6Great for back ups!External hard drives, USB or compact disks cost money and need to be present at the time you wish to access your material. Others can access your files from miles always without you or your storage medium being with them. Cloud storage can store huge files which means there is more storage and space on your computer which means it will run faster! Of course back ups are always good to have just incase your computer crashes or experiences another unfortunate event. With cloud storage, your files and information will always be there and ready for access. 6Examples - Google docs- Gmail, Yahoo!- Flickr, Photobucket, Picasa- Youtube- Facebook, Myspace - Just Cloud, YouSendIt7

-You can upload documents, spreadsheets and presentations to Google's data servers using Google docs. -Gmail and Yahoo can store email. Users can access their email and past conversations via the internet.- Flickr, Photobucket and Picasa are all forms of cloud storage for pictures. Users can upload thousands of pictures easily. Facebook and good ole Myspace is cloud storage for pictures and other forms of content. Most are free, some charge a flat rate at the beginning. 7Cloud Storage in my own life

http://astro.temple.edu/~tud19800/- Even websites can be considered a form of cloud storage!- A good way for you, your friends and your family to view your information and pictures. - My website stores all the information I need to know about all my favorite fishing spots and makes it easy to show my family and friends. 8I designed a website of my favorite places to fish. This is a form of cloud storage because it helps me store my information about my favorite fishing spots and store pictures and videos. 8Here is a chart I made that compares some Cloud storage services 9

It is easy to see that security and file access and support are the main focus points of all cloud storage services. Just cloud has the most storage space and features but the lowest help and support. Egnyte is more of a basic package but offers the best help and support so this may suit people who are not accustomed to cloud storage. 9Google Drive - Google drive allows a user to upload documents, presentations and more.- It also lets a user create a document, presentation, form, spreadsheet and drawing. All of this can be done without the use of Microsoft Office; it is all online! 10https://drive.google.com/#my-drive

Google drive is awesome and one of a kind. If a budget is tight it is the perfect solution. It serves as a storage device and a device to create document, presentation, form, spreadsheet and drawings, all in one program! This defines the future. 10Thank you!11

Thank you for viewing my presentation and I hope you consider using cloud storage in your near future if you dont already use it. 11Sources "Docs." Welcome to Google. N.p., n.d.
