Updot-ed NEWSLETTER NO. 4 22 nd February 2018 Dear Families, Last week children in Year 1 - 6 attended Ash Wednesday f Mass in beautiful Our Lady's Church. Ash Wednesday marks \. the beginning of Lent in the Catholic faith. This allows us to prepare ourselves for the upcoming Easter season. After the Mass, Father Michael presented our new Year 6 Leadership team to the School and Parish communities. All our Year 6 children will have a leadership role this year, and due to the fact that they are quite a small cohort, they will need to work twice as hard in leading and serving our school community. We are happy to announce that: Ruby Ballard & Gabriel Ingram - School Captains Linda Cuzzi & Orlando De Luise - Vice Captains I look forward to working with these leaders over the next year. Our Year 6 children should always see leadership as one of privilege and service, working with and helping the younger children at our school, and living up to the expectation of their peers and teachers who voted for them. Further leadership positions will be announced in the next fortnight. FOUNDATION CLASSES ARE FULL TIME NEXT WEEK Congratulations to our fabulous Foundation children and their parents for settling so well into school routines in 2018. The children are such a happy, confident group who love school. Next week we extend that love a little further as the Foundation children go full-time, 5 days a week, 8.55am to 3.30pm. The Foundation teachers have enjoyed meeting with each and every Foundation family on Wednesdays over the past five weeks. They have found it informative in listening to your insights as a parent, and also conducting some Numeracy/Literacy assessments to see where each child is at. Foundation parents, thank you for supporting the Foundation Transition process over the past four weeks. Many parents have complimented the transition process saying that slowly adding the different facets of school' over the past month, has given their child a happy start to the school year. Extend OSHC at Our Lady Help of Christians School Weekly Recap This week at Extend has been a big week for everyone. We not only had a program jam packed full of activities, but also it was my first week as the new Service Coordinator. For those of you who have not met me, my name is Sean and I grew up on a farm in Tasmania with my mum, dad and three brothers. I moved to Victoria to study Primary Education at A.C.U. and also to live closer to my brothers who have since moved to Victoria. Since living in Victoria my interests have revolved around exploring Melbourne, playing sport and reading. My first week at Our Lady's has been full of games such as down ball, football and soccer, crafting cool designs out of recycled materials, cooking pancakes for Shrove Tuesday and getting to know everyone. Everyone in the school has been welcoming and I look forward to getting to know all of you throughout the year!
