Evolution from rocks is a brief research work done on how rocks had evolved over billions of years ago and how life originated from them. To study evolution from rocks some branches of geology and related sciences are very important to know about. While the work is mainly based on different theories of evolution by different scientists and the latest researches of geologists which are recently trying to explain the relation of biological life with that of mineral basis.

Paleontology

Page 5: Evolution from rocks

Geochronology is

the science of

determining

the age of rocks

, fossils, and

sediments.

Page 6: Evolution from rocks

Straitigraphy is a

branch of geology

which studies

rock layers (strata)

and layering

(stratification).

Page 7: Evolution from rocks

Paleontology is the

scientific study of

prehistoric life. It

includes the study of

fossils to determine

organisms' evolution

and interactions with

each other and their

environments.

Page 8: Evolution from rocks

Units which are

used to divide

geological

time period

are called

geochronological

units.

Page 9: Evolution from rocks

Time spans ingeochronology

Notes togeochronological units

Eon 4 total, half a billionyears or more

Era 10 total, several hundredmillion years

Period Several hundredmillion years

Epoch tens ofmillions of years

Age millions of years

Chron subdivision of an age, notused by the ICS timescale

Page 10: Evolution from rocks

Geochronology

Geochronology is science of studying about geological time

Geochronological units are units which designate periods of time

thus it is correct to say that Tyrannosaurus rex lived during the Late Cretaceous Epoch

Straitigraphy is science of studying rocks and its layers

While strait chronological units explain the time of formation of rock layers

it is also correct to say that fossils of the genus Tyrannosaurus have been found in the Upper Cretaceous Series

Straitigraphy

Page 11: Evolution from rocks

Hadean eon has been considered the first geologic eon of Earth

It lied even before the Achaean (a geologic eon before the Proterozoic Eon2,500 million years ago.)

So according to scientists’ Hadean eon is the one due to which earth got its present form with the period of time

Page 12: Evolution from rocks

the rocks of

hadean eon

were the ones

which contained

essential substances

for life to evolve.

Page 13: Evolution from rocks

Life from the rocks of Hadean eon

Life from hydrothermal vents

Life due to phosphorites

Life due to meteor or commit

Life from volcanic eruptions

Life from clay hydro gels

Page 14: Evolution from rocks

Rocks formed in the time period of hadean eon gave life to earth

They reacted with other substances in that environment to produce materials which gave rise to ancient life

So the first step in evolution was the formation of rocks furthermore those rocks have molecules to support life

Page 15: Evolution from rocks
Page 16: Evolution from rocks

it is thought that once earth was covered with water all over

And due to high temperatures water was hot so somewhere in hydrothermal vents life originated and multiplied

Some archeobacteria which can resist temperature of about 120 degree Celsius survived as the rocks beneath or magma had basic molecules for life

Page 18: Evolution from rocks

2 billion years ago Earth system was recovering from perhaps the single-most profound modification of its surface environments: the oxygenation of the atmosphere and oceans.

This also resulted in the distribution of one of life's key elements, phosphorus.

The formation of Earth's earliest phosphorites was influenced strongly, if not controlled completely, by the activity of sulfur bacteria.

Page 19: Evolution from rocks

In the modern world, sulfur bacteria inhabit upwelling vent and seep areas known as "Black Smokers" and mediate phosphorites formation.

The scientists therefore conclude that the formation of the earliest worldwide phosphorites 2 billion years ago can be linked to the establishment of sulfur bacteria habitats, triggered by the oxygenation of Earth.

commits and meteors which hit the surface of the earth provided environment perfect for evolution

Some organic molecules came to earth by sticking to a meteorite

Formic acid, a compound implicated in the origins of life, has been found at record levels on a meteorite that fell onto a frozen Canadian lake in 2000.

Page 22: Evolution from rocks
Page 23: Evolution from rocks

the gasses emitted during volcanic eruptions contained molecules for life

The organic gases emitted from volcanic eruptions reacted with water due to high temperature at that time and made the molecules which persisted the ability to divide and transfer the hereditary material

Page 24: Evolution from rocks
Page 25: Evolution from rocks

clay (a silicate) has the ability to absorb liquid up to great extent so the materials being absorbed in that clay provided conditions and molecules for the life to evolve.

In simulated ancient seawater, clay forms a hydro gel -a mass of microscopic spaces capable of soaking up liquids like a sponge.

Page 26: Evolution from rocks

Over billions of years, chemicals confined in those spaces could have carried out the complex reactions that formed proteins, DNA and eventually all the machinery that makes a living cell work.

Clay hydrogels could have confined and protected those chemical processes until the membrane that surrounds living cells developed.

Page 27: Evolution from rocks
Page 28: Evolution from rocks

No theory can explain totally the origin of life on planet

earth!

Page 29: Evolution from rocks

All these theories might seem different from each other but actually they all are

connected in some way. So from the above discussion it is quite evident that

life originated after the evolution of different types of rocks and that

geological landforms became the reason for life to come into being!
