“Evolve. Emerge. Excel.” Essay Contest Rules OFFICIAL RULES INTRODUCTION To celebrate the observance of The IIA Bahamas Chapter’s 25 th Anniversary, the Chapter Council invites the participation of grades 10 12 high school students, and college/university students in our essay competition. Participants must write and submit original essays on the theme “Evolve. Emerge. Excel.”. Chapter council members will serve as judges and select the most compelling submissions in accordance with these Official Rules and based upon the criteria set forth below. The winners will be selected from among all eligible entries received by the January 15 th , 2016 deadline and will be announced at our 25 th Anniversary Gala Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 23, 2016. Prizes will be given to top three finalists in the competition. ELIGIBILITY The competition is open to current high school and college/university students. INTRODUCTION To celebrate the observance of The IIA Bahamas Chapter’s 25

th Anniversary, the Chapter Council invites

the participation of grades 10 – 12 high school students, and college/university students in our essay competition. Participants must write and submit original essays on the theme “Evolve. Emerge. Excel.”. Chapter council members will serve as judges and select the most compelling submissions in accordance with these Official Rules and based upon the criteria set forth below. ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to current high school and college/university students. Contestants will be

ENTRY PERIOD

The competition entry period begins on Monday, November 9, 2015 at 12:00 pm and ends on Friday, January 15, 2016 at 5:00 pm.

HOW TO ENTER

1. Print a registration form from our website www.bahamasiia.org or from our competition launch email. Registration forms of high school students must be signed by a Parent/Guardian.

2. Scan and email the completed form along with the completed, original essay to

[email protected] with the subject “Essay Competition” by the deadline.

3. Entrants may submit an original work in English on the theme “Evolve. Emerge. Excel.”. Each applicant should submit one entry. Each entry must be submitted with a registration form.

4. There is no fee to enter the competition.

5. Entries must conform to the submission guidelines set out below. Entries which fail to do so will be rejected and are not eligible to receive a prize. The Chapter Council will use reasonable efforts to notify Entrant in the event that it is determined that the Entrant’s submission is ineligible.

By fully completing and successfully submitting the registration form as well as the essay to the specified email address, entrants will be automatically entered in the competition. By entering, entrants agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges, to be bound by these Official Rules, and to comply with all local laws and regulations. Entries which are incomplete, illegible, forged, or otherwise not in compliance with these Official Rules will not be considered.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

1. Submit an original work in English on “Evolve. Emerge. Excel.” Essays should focus on the development of the Internal Audit profession in The Bahamas over the past 25 years. Discussions may include the merits of internal auditing and its ties to good governance, risk management and controls.

2. Submission should include a comprehensive list of sources consulted.

3. Essay must be no fewer than 600 and no more than 1,200 words in length, double spaced. Only one entry per student is allowed.

4. All submissions must include a word count, excluding the cover page, list of sources and the registration form.

5. Entries must be in 12-point Times New Roman with a one-inch margin on all sides of the page.

6. Do not place your name or your school's name on any of the pages of the essay. Create a cover page which includes the students name; grade; address; e-mail address; telephone number; and, name and address of high school.

7. Your essay will be disqualified if it does not meet the requirements or is e-mailed after the submission date.

8. Send submission (double spaced and no smaller than 12 font) to: [email protected] no later

than January 15th, 2016.

By submitting an essay, entrants agree to allow the IIA Bahamas Chapter to use their submissions for marketing purposes. The IIA Bahamas Chapter reserves the right to publicize and promote the essay. All work will be given full credit to the creators.

GUIDELINES

For the purposes of this Essay Contest, an essay is a three-part paper that lays out and provides information on the essay contest theme. Although researching the topic to find examples that support your points is crucial to writing your essay, it should be a narrative description of an events/information related to the internal audit profession in your own words, which reflect your original thoughts and opinions.

Your essay should contain an introduction, body, and a conclusion, as well as reference notes (footnotes or endnotes) and/or a bibliography that give the sources of your information or ideas.

EVALUATION CRITERIA

Submissions will be assessed on the following criteria. All judges’ decisions are final.

Count 12. Strong writing and analysis skills

to be announced) respectively at the 25th Anniversary Gala Awards Dinner on Saturday, January 23,
