Internship Description Position #1 – This intern will examine COLFAundergraduates nearing completion of 45 hours ofcredit towards their degree. After training, this internwill pull the students’ files, evaluate and update thestudents degree requirement check list (DRC), sendthe updated DRC and a blank semester –to-semesterplan (if not already filed) and have them submit thecompleted semester-to semester plan by email orpersonal delivery for review of accuracy by the intern.Once the plan has been checked and evaluated asaccurate, the intern will enter a code on theSPACMNT screen of Banner, preventing thestudent(s) from receiving the 45 hour hold, once theyacquire between 45-55 hours. The intern will send afollow-up email indicating the code has been placedon their record and the student should make anappointment with their major advisor for a preliminarydegree audit just before earning 90 hours of credit.

Position #2 – This intern will examine COLFAundergraduates nearing completion of 90 hours ofcredit towards their degree. After training, this internwill pull these students’ files, evaluate and update theDRC, check if student has a semester-to-semester planfiled, if not, have them submit the completed semester-to semester plan by email or personal delivery forreview of accuracy by the intern. Once the plan hasbeen evaluated as correct, a preliminary degree auditwill be performed on the student’s file by the intern,reviewed by the major advisor, and emailed to thestudent. Once these steps are completed, a code willbe placed on the SPACMNT screen of Bannerpreventing the student(s) from receiving the 90 hourhold once they acquire between 90-115 hours. Theintern will send a follow-up email indicating the codehas been placed on their record and, as long asstudent’s plan has been followed to the tee, the studentshould apply for graduation the semester prior to theirplanned graduation. The intern will also note that ifchanges are made to their plan, the student shouldnotify their major advisor immediately so they mayevaluate their planned semester of graduation.

Position #3 – This intern, after training, will examineall currently maintained students’ paper files and auditthem for current enrollment, drop out, or stop out andprepare the outdated files to be placed in a digitalstorage location. This same intern will also examineall currently maintained student e-files based on thesame criteria and place these files in a digital storagelocation within the main e-files location (I drive forCOLFA).

Position #4 – This intern, after training, will be given alist of COLFA undergraduates who have stopped outor dropped out since 2004, are within 24 hours ofgraduation and contact them to find out what we cando to help them come back and finish their degree.This intern will develop collaboration with ourGraduation Initiative liaison to possibly providefinancial or other types of support for these students tofinish their degree.

2011-2012 Graduate Internship-Orientation and Family Program

Thank you for your interest in a 2011-2012 Graduate Intern position with Orientation and Family Programs(OFP). Graduate Interns fulfill an integral role within OFP by working to assist in the facilitation of OrientationLeader Recruitment; ROWDY’S Camp; Family Weekend; the Orientation Leader Association Best Fest booth,spring/summer/fall orientation programs, Orientation Advisory Board; Residential Learning Community Class& Orientation Leader Training Class and general overall support of the office.

Graduate Intern Timeline

Intern Orientation/Training (Week 1)-This week is dedicated to providing UTSA/department/jobresponsibilities orientation and necessary training for the Intern.

Intern Work Experience (Week 2 to 15)-This is the weekly work schedule that the Intern will complete as apart of their placement with Orientation and Family Programs. It will consist of accomplishing jobresponsibilities; on-going training and professional development opportunities.

Final Evaluation (Week 15)-The final evaluation meeting is conducted this week between the Intern and theInternship Supervisor.

Graduate Intern Job Description

Objective 1: To gain an understanding of the role of orientation programs/services in higher educationLearning Outcomes:

ORIENTATION

Assist the Director, Associate and Assistant Directors of Orientation and Family Programs (OFP) withaspects of the planning and implementation of Orientation programs for the fall, spring and summersemesters

Assist with all aspects of Orientation Staff recruitment including but not limited to: marketing-creatingflyers, banners, staffing information tables, creating Paisano ads, and holding information sessions withvarious student groups; selection-reading applications, conducting group and individual interviews andmaking final recommendations for selection

Assists in the coordination of the Orientation Leader Association Best Fest Booth

The following internship program will be assigned towork with the UTSA Office of P-20 Initiatives, morespecifically, working in the area of outreachinitiatives. The intern position will be assigned towork closely with the Mobile Go Center Initiative, a’42 foot mobile computing lab, used to help spread thecollege going message throughout South CentralTexas. The candidate will work closely with P-20program staff to coordinate visits of unit, assessmentand evaluation of unit and other areas in helping tospread the college going message throughout BexarCounty. Hours for this position will vary throughoutthe traditional work week of M-F, 8-5, however, mayinclude several Saturday activities to ensure theinternship program total of 150 hours is met.

least a 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale.

3. Time Commitment – 10-19 hours per week. It is expected that Graduate Intern

complete the required 150 hours designated within their EDL internship course.

4. Remuneration – The Graduate Intern will receive a ____per hour. The position is
