TEGO Betain C 60 (INCI name: cocamidopropyl betaine) is a foam-enhancing surfactant. With 47% active matter, it delivers flash-foaming and performance in skin-cleansing products. The highly-concentrated product is described as being very mild and pure and is also microbiologically stable without preservatives. TEGO Betain C 60 will soon be produced in Evonik’s newly built organics production facility in Shanghai, China [Focus on Surfactants, May 2012]. TEGO Care 450 is a high-performance PEG-free emulsifier for hot-processed O/W creams and lotions. It is proven to have moisturizing properties and is mild to the skin, the company says. The unit will develop and produce surfactant solutions for Solvay’s home & personal care and industrial customers in Central and Eastern Europe. The plant will produce speciality surfactants that aid in the delivery of functional performance attributes such as cleansing, dispersal, moisturizing and texturizing qualities. The unit is scheduled to be operational by 1Q 2014 and initial operations will add more than 30 new jobs to the existing industrial platform in Genthin. With production set to start in 2014, Solvay is uniquely positioned to serve the dynamic Central and Eastern European market as well as its many customers around the world, it says. To produce these speciality chemicals, Oxiteno has retrofitted the assets it acquired in Apr 2012 [Focus on Surfactants, Jul 2012]. Oxiteno says that the start-up of the Pasadena site is an important milestone for the company, reaffirming its commitment to the US market and strengthening its position and portfolio for the NAFTA region. New surfactants capacity will be added to the site to further support Oxiteno’s business expansion in the Home & Personal Care, Agrochemicals, Coatings and Oil & Gas markets. The Pasadena site will reach capacity of 32,000 tonnes/y for speciality surfactants in 2013. In addition to its current capacity for ethoxylates, Oxiteno has been given the go-ahead by parent company Ultrapar to invest another $100 M in the NAFTA region by the end of 2014 to expand its production capacity by 100,000 tonnes/y in Pasadena and in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico. Appygreen 812 is a plant-based formulation booster that improves cleaning and increases the viscosity and foam volume of formulations. The polar head of Appygreen 812 is obtained from non- digestible sugars from hemicellulose. Sophogreen is produced from naturally derived raw materials as an alternative to petroleum-based solubilizers. It is a solution containing a high concentration of sophorolipids. To produce Sophogreen, Soliance developed an industrial process based on biotechnology and comprising three main steps: fermentation, bioconversion and purification. The deal was completed on 31 Mar 2013. It does not include Sasol Gulf assets in S Africa, Italy and Germany. Sasol Gulf is a subsidiary of Sasol Italy, which is part of Sasol O&S. As a result of the transaction, Anichem gains a 15,000 tonnes/y linear alkylbenzene sulfonates unit. The surfactants are used in detergents and cleaning products. In addition to local markets, the unit will supply the Indian subcontinent, Pakistan, Iraq, Iran, Gulf States and some markets in the CIS and E Africa. Anichem will retain the existing workforce. Sasol Olefins & Surfactants (SasolO&S) has sold all of its share in itsDubai-based subsidiary GD PortburyLtd (operating as Sasol Gulf) to thelocal firm Anichem FCZ.
