From trends to new markets
Identifying trends:
What changes are visible?
Screening trends:
Which are most important for Evonik?
Evaluating trends:
Which changes can be utilized to enter high-growth
markets?
Identifying a trend is not sufficient.
Trends have to be utilized to shape the future.

Health, Nutrition
• The world's agricultural land has hardly increased in
the past 40 years but the global population has
grown by 3 billion people.
• Rising affluence in the emerging markets and
developing countries is increasing demand for a
healthy diet. Including meat.
• In the industrialized countries the population is aging.
Rising life expectancy is increasing demand for
pharmaceutical products.
• Health, wellness, beauty: Increasing affluence and
longer life expectancy are driving demand for
products that enhance wellbeing.

... and what do we do?
• Evonik is the only company in the world that
manufactures and markets the four essential amino
acids for efficient animal nutrition.
• Evonik is increasing global capacity for the most
important amino acid, DL-methionine. In this way it
is making a vital contribution to sustainable nutrition
of the world's population.
• Used in pig and poultry farming and increasingly in
aquaculture (fish, shrimps).
• Just 2 g DL-methionine (MetAMINO®) are needed
to optimize 1 kg animal feed.
• Evonik is investing in the construction and
expansion of production facilities for DL-methionine
(Singapore) and L-lysine (Brazil, Russia, USA)

... and what do we do?
• Evonik provides customized active substances for
pharmaceuticals to treat major diseases such as HIV,
tuberculosis, and diabetes.
• Evonik has a portfolio of anti-aging ingredients for
more attractive skin with fewer wrinkles and age spots.
• Pharmaceutical polymers with smart protective and
release mechanics make sure that active ingredients
are released in the body at the right time and in the
right place to be effective.
• Evonik superabsorbents, which are used in babies'
diapers, can absorb up to 500 times their weight in
liquid.

Resource efficiency
• The world's population is growing by 73 million
people a year.
• Global demand for energy will more than double by
2050. The main consumers of energy are industry,
transportation and living.
• In 2030 fossil fuels will provide 90 percent of global
energy requirements.
• The number of vehicles worldwide will roughly double
to 1.9 billion by 2030.
March 2014 | Corporate Presentation Page 17
... and what do we do?
• Lower rolling resistance: Tires made with the latest
silica-silane technology from Evonik have less
resistance than conventional tires.
• The result: up to 8 percent less fuel consumption.
March 2014 | Corporate Presentation Page 18
... and what do we do?
• Lightweight construction: Evonik is developing
high-performance plastics that can replace
conventional materials such as metal and glass.
• Example: ROHACELL®. Our rigid foam is used with
carbon fibers in sandwich structures, thus reducing
the weight of a vehicle by up to 70 percent compared
to metal.
• Example: PLEXIGLAS®. High transparency and
weather resistance; in windshields, side windows,
and sunroofs, this glazing material can reduce
vehicle weight by up to 50 percent compared to
glass.

... and what do we do?
• DYNAVIS®: Evonik produces high-performance
additives for hydraulic fluids that maintain their
lubrication properties over a wide temperature
range, improve engine performance and save fuel.
• VESTAMIN®: Crosslinkers from Evonik make wind
turbines extremely tough because they ensure
optimal curing/adhesion of composites.

Globalization
• Asia will be the fastest growing economic region up to 2020.
• The BRIC states (Brazil, Russia, India and China) are becoming more and more significant.
• And Turkey, Indonesia, South Korea and Mexico are emerging as new "BRIC" states.
• Despite the political upheaval in the Middle East, this region is going through a sustained growth phase.
• In the long term, economic weight will shift from the industrialized countries, the present leaders, to the new growth hubs.
• Technology transfer and cross-border research cooperations are therefore becoming increasingly important for the traditional industrialized nations.
March 2014 | Corporate Presentation Page 21
... and what do we do?
• Increasing mobility and urbanization are growth
drivers for Evonik because
• they raise global demand for efficient
transportation systems and sustainable
construction
• there is a growing affluent middle class,
especially in the emerging markets
• traditional materials are increasingly being
replaced by innovative materials
• That’s why Evonik is systematically stepping up its
presence in growth markets.
• Examples: China and Taiwan. Evonik has
systematically built and expanded production
capacity for PLEXIGLAS® molding compounds in
Shanghai and Taichung.
March 2014 | Corporate Presentation Page 22
... and what do we do?
• Example: China. Evonik is building a new production
facility for hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in Jilin to gain
access to new markets. H2O2 is used in a multistep
process to manufacture a precursor for polyurethane,
which is used for example in automobile seats and
mattresses.
• Example: Argentina. Evonik is building a new plant to
produce catalysts that customers use to extract
biodiesel from renewable raw materials. It is
therefore playing a part in the growing South
American market for biodiesel.
• Example: Singapore. A new VESTAMID® plant is to
be built here. This polyamide 12 increases the safety
of oil and gas pipelines and is also used in high-
quality automotive products and for sports articles.
