Evron Graphics Embraces Digital Wide Format with EFI’s H652 Hybrid UV Printer

Challenge:

Chris Root has been in business for nearly 30 years, and has seen a

lot of transitions in the industry. “When four-color graphics became

popular, we had to start offering digital. That was about 12, 14 years

ago,” Chris says.

Evron started farming out digital work to partner companies, but

within the past few years the market has switched from mostly

electronic displays to P-O-P graphics, and it became time to rethink

his strategy. “First people stopped ordering by the thousands and

wanted only small quantities,” he explains. “Then work picked up

even more, and eventually there were enough jobs to justify my

own digital wide format printer.”

Chris had always liked UV, and wanted to remain flexible in terms of being able to print on all sorts of materials. He started looking at hybrid machines that could handle metal and plexiglass as well as traditional roll materials.

Solution

Chris made his way to Connect, EFI’s annual users’ conference, to look at the EFI H650 wide format printer. The pricing and features were what he needed, but ideally he was looking for something faster. By waiting just a few extra months, Chris was able to purchase one of the very first EFI H652 wide format printers – the upgraded model of the H650. “The H650 was a good product – the best I’d seen up to that point – but I really wanted something faster. EFI’s H652 was very versatile and was priced right, and it was twice as fast,” says Chris.

Evron is a small business with only a handful of employees, so he likes to keep things simple. “The H652 is very user-friendly. I can set everything up and have my secretary print while I’m away,” says Chris. “Most of our work is flat sheet, but there is a bit of roll-to-roll,” Chris continues. “We do a lot of unique jobs and use a good deal of white ink.”

Results

Since installing the EFI H652 wide format printer, Evron has moved a lot of screen-press work to the digital printer, but Chris likes to maintain a steady pace in the shop. “I don’t want to be printing 12 hours per day – I want to keep things small. That way I can pick and choose jobs based on what I want. I can turn off the printers and go home, or I can stay and make more money.”

Chris has never heard anything but positive feedback from customers, including when printing jobs with text as small as 4-point. The H652 has helped Chris grow his customer base at the level he wants. “People walk in the door and remain customers. Any customer that I’ve lost has been by my choice, not because they were unhappy,” he says.
