›› Appoint a leader to help direct and maintain the conversation.›› Allow everyone to speak and be an active listener.›› Be invitational, not confrontational. Avoid put downs and negative comments.›› Speak clearly and succinctly.›› Stay on topic.›› Consider making notes to help you remember good ideas, facts, expressions, and points of view. You can get Idea Tracker sheets from your teacher.

Research and Presentation Tips

Research:

›› Allot an appropriate amount of time for research and avoid last minute panic.›› Make brief but careful notes and always identify your source. Keep a record of all sources consulted and used.›› In general, use your own words when making notes.›› If you find something you wish to quote, use quotation marks and note the source.›› Research on a regular basis and keep your notes in a special research folder, envelope, or binder.›› Keep a research log to record your progress.
