About developing with the Microsoft Advertising SDK for Windows 8 apps

• This presentation provides a few tips and explains to software developers what the ad options are when using the Microsoft Advertising SDK from http://adsinapps.microsoft.com/

• The SDK provides 17 AdUnitID numbers to test out the ad options for the developer to specify within the app. However, pubCenter only provides 7 variations, which are limited to the size of the ad.• pubCenter is the service a developer needs to register with to be able to display ads in their

Windows 8 application via the Microsoft Advertising SDK. See http://pubCenter.Microsoft.com

• This is all by design. The SDK provides these modes so the developer can test for them and ensure the app behaves properly given all the different types of ads that might appear in the app when served up by the Microsoft ad exchange

Three things to know about the ads

The three things The different possibilities

Size: You, the developer, needs to specify the size of the ad that will appear in your application

7 options: 160x600, 250x125, 250x250, 292x60, 300x250, 500x130, 728x90 These are all controlled with the AdUnitID number provided by pubCenter that the developer uses in the AdControl object

Content: This is what the advertiser (or their agency) puts together that appears in the ad

4 types: An image, video, text, or image plus text

Actions: This is what happens when a user clicks on the ad, which is also defined by the advertiser

4 actions: A web page or app opens, a full screen image opens with a back button to get back to your app, a full screen video opens with a back button, or an image opens with hotspots like the Bing homepage

Real Ads-in-Apps Examples

The following screenshots include real advertisements along with text explaining the ads and tips for the developer

No, the application is not live in the Windows Store – if it ever will be, since it probably violates criteria that specifies that an application needs to do more than display ads
