"Vision is the ability to see things that are invisible"

As CEO of the Cortec Corporation, it is my job to help create and to champion our com-pany's vision. Vision is important because without it, nothing grows. These visions havealways been created with the conclusion in mind, which have involved the growth ofCortec as the ultimate ending. Sometimes, the ending may not be quite what I initiallyenvisioned it to be, but these visions usually help take us to the next level. I believe that wewould all agree that it is easy to view the past and difficult to see the future. Looking tothe future is not easy because it takes courage, risk and commitment, not just by me, butalso from every member of the Cortec family. Your commitment needs to start with faith(belief without evidence) that we are the best at what we do and we provide the best to ourcustomers.

Today, we are ready to take our company to the next level of growth. We need to haveeveryone working as a team in order for us to reach our corporate vision, as well as ourpersonal goals. We all win when we work efficiently together. We need to continue to pro-duce breakthrough products and applications. We need to focus on increasing our salesand reducing our expenditures. Your actions will continue to keep our products competi-tive in today's world market. It's a challenge, but you can do it! It will be fun. Think aboutthis as the vision of Cortec:

· World Class Product OfferingsAn innovator and designer of leading edge products

· World Class Customer ServiceA positive, long-lasting impression through every link of our company

· An Ethical and Respectful Company CultureRespect and treat our colleagues, customers and vendors as we would our own familymembers

· A Company Atmosphere which Fosters Continuous Improvement and OpenCommunicationTeach each other. Make it better. Improve at your job.

· Achieve Profitable Sales GrowthNothing will grow without your cooperation.

· HAVE FUN!"If you choose a job you love, you will never work a day of your life"I love to see people that do a great job and have fun doing it! These are the real company Heroes.

Cortec’s 2003 World’s Sales Meeting Lights Up the Stage

This years World Sales Meeting was like a night at the Oscars where thebig winners were recognized for their roles in corrosion protection. In addi-tion to honoring the VpCI/MCI superstars the Cortec family offered train-ing and advice to all sales people striving for leading roles in Cortec’s salesforce. Seminars on both days cover everything from VpCI basics to specificproduct lines and chemistries. After a decadent lunch at the LandmarkCenter in downtown St. Paul and an afternoon of seminars at Cortec worldheadquarters everyone met back at the Historic St. Paul Hotel for theannual cocktail reception. Hor'durves were served followed by a chance toentertain the group with karaoke. The vocal stylelings of Cortec friendsand family were great fun; however, I recommend that everyone keep theirday job!

After a second educational day at the beautiful St. Paul Hotel guestsenjoyed dinner and dancing on the scenic St. Croix River Cruise. Those whostayed for Saturday’s events tested their athletic abilities at either theCortec Golf or Tennis Challenge. Shopaholics also had the opportunity toexercise their shopping savvy at the World’s largest indoor mall, Mall ofAmerica. As it is every year, this World’s Sales Meeting was a fun andinspiring time for Cortec sales people and representatives. We hope to seeeveryone again next year along with some new faces.

…and the award for EnvironmentallyFriendly VpCI/MCI technologies goes to…

Cortec, of course!

Eco-Corr Anti-Stat FilmCortec is leading the biodegradable filmindustry with its newest release: Eco-CorrAnti-Stat. This film is 100%compostable/biodegradable and providesboth anti-static and corrosion inhibitingprotection. Eco-Corr Anti-Stat is complete-ly stable in atmospheric conditions. It willnot begin to break down until exposed tocompost or soil conditions where it willconvert to water and carbon dioxide in 6-7weeks. Eco-Corr offers contact, vapor andbarrier corrosion protection giving cus-tomers a complete corrosion inhibitingpackaging film.

Eco-Corr Anti-Stat film satisfies strict com-postablity and biodegradability require-ments of ASTM D 6400-99 and DIN V54900 and meets MIL-PRF-8175D withrespect to static decay. It also fulfills surfaceresistivity Section 4.6.8 of PerformanceSpecification MIL-PRF-81705D. Eco-CorrAnti-Stat has a static decay rate time of0.02 seconds when exposed to 5000 volts, well below the limit of 2 seconds. Its sur-face resistivity is 109 Ohm/sq, easily withinthe required range is 105 to 1012

Eco-Corr Anti-Stat has no special disposalrequirements; the film can simply be dis-carded after use. One of the major advan-tages to Cortec’s VpCI technology is thatit does not require removal. Unlike tradi-tional corrosion inhibiting and anti-staticcoatings, metal protected by Eco-CorrAnti-Stat is immediately ready for use.Eco-Corr Anti-Stat has a two-year shelflife plus an additional two years of staticand corrosion protection once in use.

Cortec Laboratories IntroducesHigh Performance, Bio-based andBiodegradable Film—Eco Works™!Eco Works™ is the latest innovation inCortec’s expanding line of biodegradablefilms. Eco Works is a unique blend ofhigh performance and naturally derivedbiodegradable polyesters that allow thephysical properties of the end product tobe customized for a wide variety of applica-tions. Some of the customizable featuresinclude clarity, transmission rates (oxygenand moisture), rigidity and strength.Additionally, the improved strength of EcoWorks allows for a variety of conveniencefeatures available on traditional bagsincluding the drawstring for easy handling.

Eco Works also complements Eco Filmallowing sales people to replace even morenon-degradable films for customers.Whereas Eco Film is elastic and silky, EcoWorks is rigid and resembles high-densitypolyethylene. Those who attended theWorld Sales Meeting this year have alreadyreceived a sample of Eco Works. TheCortec trade show bags are now madefrom Eco Works film.

Eco Works is ide-ally suited for col-lection bagsrequiring longercurb-life, andapplicationsrequiring a morerigid film, likefood packagingand agriculturaluses. Eco Works

has a couple sales advantages over EcoFilm; Eco Works costs slightly less and isderived from corn material therefore allow-ing preferential government purchasing.

MCI 2020 is Extending the Service Life of the Pentagon

The Pentagon’s concrete walls were experi-encing spalling due to corrosion and Cortec’sMCI® 2020 was chosen to come to the res-cue. Carbonation was lowering the pH of theconcrete, causing the embedded rebar to cor-rode. The Pentagon needed a new coatingsystem that would last 20 years, reduce orstop corrosion and stop water absorptionwithout altering the appearance of the walls.Cortec’s MCI 2020 effectively deters corro-sion caused by carbonation as well as corro-sive attack from sulfur dioxide, car fumes,

air-borne salts and sea water. Researchshows that MCI 2020 can increase the serv-ice life of a concrete structure up to 70%compared to a control, in some cases bymore than 30 years.

MCI 2020 provided an ideal solution tothe Pentagon’s corrosion problem. As a partof the ongoing Pentagon renovation MCI2020 will repair 200,000 square feet ofspalled areas and an additional 1,000,000square feet of wall surface will be treatedwith MCI 2020 V/O. This will providecorrosion protection to the Pentagon’s exte-rior walls for years to come.

MCI 2020 will repair 200,000 square feet, andan additional 1,000,000 square feet of wall sur-face will be treated with MCI 2020 V/O.

and waxed papers. The barrier layerincludes our patented VpCI technology, which is the industry’s forerunner in cor-rosion protection. Both ferrous and non-ferrous metals are protected from corro-sion. EcoShield VpCI Linerboard offersthe unique advantage of being fully recy-clable (repulpable). This eliminates theneed for expensive processes to separatethe paper base from the coating.EcoShield VpCI Linerboard protects metalparts for storage and shipments in eitherbox, interleaving or insert formats.

EcoShield LinerboardEcoShield Linerboard was created forapplications requiring only moisture barri-er properties. It uses the same superiorbarrier coating found in EcoShield VpCILinerboard. Like its VpCI counterpart,

EcoShield Linerboard is fully repulpa-ble while displaying barrier propertiessimilar or better than those of wax orpolyethylene coated linerboard. Thereis no need for costly processes to sepa-rate the paper base from the coating. In addition to being environmentallyfriendly, EcoShield Linerboard is incompliance with FDA and USDA

regulations. It can be used inapplications where direct or indi-rect food contact may occur.EcoShield Linerboard can be

made into boxes or end caps toprovide protection to moisture-sensi-

tive items.

SilverBrite VpCI PaperSilverBrite VpCI paper is a new productfrom Cortec Corporation specifically forthe protection and packaging of preciousmetals such as silver, gold, tin and copper.SilverBrite offers a cost effective and easy

to use method of corrosion protection forvaluable metals. This unique paper con-tains a hydrogen sulfide scavenger and sat-uration indicator on the outside of thepaper that automatically turns to a darkercolor when a substantial amount of hydro-gen sulfide has been absorbed. This indi-cator tells customers when the papershould be replaced. In addition, SilverBriteVpCI paper is effective in aggressive envi-ronments, including humidity, sulfur diox-ide, galvanic corrosion from dissimilarmetals and harmful contaminants in air.The vapor phase corrosion and tarnishinhibitors in SilverBrite VpCI papervaporize and deposit an invisible, molecu-lar layer of corrosion and tarnish inhibitorover the entire surface of the preciousmetal. SilverBrite VpCI paper will elimi-nate the need for coatings and tarnishremovers that often are associated withprecious metals. When removed fromSilverBrite VpCI paper, precious metalswill look exactly as they did before theywere protected with SilverBrite. Typicalapplications include electrical compo-nents, controls, silverware, jewelry box lin-ings, shipping container linings and wrap-ping. SilverBrite VpCI paper is non-toxicand contains no nitrites, phosphates, sili-cones, chromates or other heavy metals.SilverBrite VpCI paper is available in stan-dard and custom sizes.

Silver Brite VpCI paper was created to protectprecious metals from tarnish and corrosion.

NASA is now using Cortec’s VpCI®temporary coatings in it’s post flightoperations. Cortec’s patented VpCI tech-nology is applied to almost all parts ofthe shuttle, including major componentsand hundreds of small parts. After flightthe surfaces are stripped down to baremetal as part of the disassembly andrefurbishment phase.

Cortec’s coating is vital to the protectionof those metal parts as they can beexposed to corrosive environments.Keeping these components corrosion freeis crucial for NASA and Cortec is proudto be chosen for this important mission.
