History Of Velammal“Dream Big, Think Differently, Focus Intensely, Work Independently.”

These words unravel the success story behind the Velammal Educational Trust from the year 1986 to 2018 and span the golden years ahead....

Smt.Velammal, born in a small hamlet Ladanendal, near Madurai, ardently desired for something more than just a virtuous life of comfort for her children. The visionary gleam in her, made her inspire her children to think beyond the mundane life of survival, to a life of lighting up lives and shaping nation builders. She had sown the pearly wisdom and her son reverentially gave expression to his mother’s dream by founding the Velammal Educational Trust in the year 1986.

The Founder Chairman Shri M.V. Muthuramalingam, with an Engineering degree to his credit, a humble background and no financial backup, housed the first school in 1986 in a thatched roof with just 183 students and 13 teachers on roll. “We have never seen ourselves as brick and mortar but rather as an entity that empowers the student community to reach the larger world beyond”. This is the truth behind our metamorphosis as an ‘Educational Empire’ with 45 Institution,2 Kindergarten Schools, 10 Matriculation Schools, 20 CBSE Schools, 1 International School, 3 Residential Schools, 3 Engineering colleges, and 3 Medical & Allied Colleges with more than 1, 05,000 students and 10,000 dedicated staff members.

Today with just 31 steps behind, we have left an indelible mark on all facets of education i.e scholastic and co-scholastic activities, sports, occupational and recreational oriented ventures. Our phenomenal and unsurpassable record of academic excellence and unparalleled individual and team achievements in sports at national and international levels are the touchstones of the school’s meteoric rise. The fact that the school has stood the test for generations in identifying and nurturing individual talents, creating awareness among students and public towards socio-economic and global causes, is a testimony of the quality of education that Velammal has striven to sustain all these years. These qualities would stay with the students lifelong and help them evolve into truly global citizens. In the years to come, the school envisions

• Making the learning process an enlightening one, igniting the students’ intellectual curiosity.

• Unleashing the creative potential of children and grooming them into responsible citizens of high calibre.

• Developing confident and committed individuals to meet the digital era.• Opening avenues to further widen the confidence level of the nation builder - the

Velammalians.

Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) - STD I to XIIThe performance of a student is evaluated through Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) to reduce the workload on students and to improve their overall skill and ability by means of evaluation of other activities. STUDENTS’ PREFECTORIAL SYSTEM

The school aims at developing leadership qualities in students to mould them to become nation builders. The Council comprises the School Pupil Leader and an Assistant School Pupil Leader from Std-X & XII. Further, there are Head Boys and Head Girls for each Compartment. The school also appoints Presidents and Vice Presidents for all the Clubs functioning in the school.

The school has a well designed system of selecting the leaders. The administrative staff assisted by the Class Teachers select students who have the attributes of a leader, excel in Academics, Sports and Cultural Activities and are also well disciplined and possess social grace. These selected students are given a self appraisal questionnaire and then called for an interview by the Selection Panel comprising a team of School Administrators. Students are selected purely on merit.
