WHAT IS AN EXCHANGE STUDY PACKAGE? Exchange Study Packages are balanced, coherent, well-structured, and self-contained sets of courses at a final Bachelor year academic level. Choosing one of these packages means you do not have to worry about selecting the right courses or managing your calendar to fit all of your classes. Simply apply for a package that suits your academic background and interest to be ensured of a well-balanced exchange programme, often consisting of 30 EC. These packages are generally accessible to students who have successfully completed the first two years of their Bachelor programme. EXCHANGE STUDY PACKAGE EXCHANGE STUDY PACKAGE WWW.UTWENTE.NL/GO/EXCHANGE CROSSING BORDERS - VIRTUAL PROJECT Participating in the international project, students will be organised into multidisciplinary teams in which they will develop a project jointly with partners located abroad by using ICT means. Learning Goals 1. To enrich the students bachelors profile with an in- ternational experience and prepare them for dealing with cultural differences. 2. To acquire a detailed knowledge of and insight into the issues and grand challenges of sustainability, sustainable technologies, responsible innovation, business development and social equity in the inter- national context and in particular for developing and transition countries; 3. To identify, analyse and evaluate a range of ethical, professional, managerial, economic, legal, social and cultural challenges of - and opportunities for - responsible innovation in practice at different levels within different organisations, i.e. 1) companies; 2) non-profit organisations; and 3) government and public sector organisations. 4. To develop solutions to complex issues related to the transition to a sustainable future using the appropriate theories and approaches, and to approach them – both individually as well as on the basis of team work – from a multidisciplinary and multicultural perspective. 5. To identify and discuss dilemmas in creating and implementing the transition to a sustainable future related to responsible innovation within business and public sectors 6. To learn hands on to work in a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with people from other country.

Students are trained to deal with cultural differencesand develop a project by using research methodsassociated to a real life case study.

ContentThis course has three distinct elements: (1) thematicsessions offering multi-disciplinary perspectives,theories, strategies and approaches for solving TS&DGrand Challenges of NGOs, private firms and publicorganisations; (2) self-guided cooperative learning byteams of students from different disciplinarybackgrounds under the guidance of academic staff; (3)an international project. Throughout the module,students are expected to give plenary presentationsabout their work - both individually and in teams.

As for the international project, students will beorganised into multidisciplinary teams in which they willdevelop a project jointly with partners located abroad byusing ICT’s means. Since the project will be a real lifecase, built on the needs of an international partnerorganisations, students need to learn about crossingnational borders to deal with cultural differences,adjusting their own working styles to a different context.Students will learn topics and approaches related to:• Grand Challenges around Food, Energy, Water,

Health, transportation, Poverty, Migration, Cities, etc.Causes and Grand Challenges for TS&D.

• Theories of human capital development, innovationsystems and implications for public policy.

• Project development approaches• Research methods in social sciences• Theories on Cultural differences at individual level and

impacts at organisational scale.• Co-creation methods to develop a product or service.• Business models• Social entrepreneurship and social innovation.

The project development will be coached by UT staffwith experience with multidisciplinary and multicultural(online) settings.
