In 899 Umar converted to Christianity, the faith of his ancestors, with the name of ‘Samuel’. He even built a church in Bobastro, the only Mozarabic church that

remains in Andalusia until our days.

His muslim allies (Muladies and Berbers) abandoned him after this…

The Abderraman victory was so important that it unified Al-Andalus and it was proclaimed a Caliphate

in 929 AD

But while Bobastro was entertaining Córdoba, the Christian kingdoms of the north managed to be

consolidated and initiate the Reconquest of Hispania…

After the Battle of Navas de Tolosa (1212) and the reconquest of Jaén, Córdoba and Seville by the kingdoms of Castile and Leon (1236 to 1248)…

…the Castle of Teba was right on the frontier between the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada (Muslim)

and the Castilian Kingdom (Christian), for nearly three centuries.

The fort of Teba belonged to the Moorish Kingdom of Granada from 1230’s until 1330

In August of that last year it was captured by the Castilian forces of King Alfonso XI in a famous battle.

In this battle the troops of Granada commanded by their King Mohamed IV clashed with the troops of Castile led by Alfonso

XI.

The Granadians had the help of Benimerin troops from Northern Africa. The Castilian forces had support from a

group of Scottish Crusaders led by Sir James Douglas.

Sir James Douglas, accompanied by a group of Scottish knights, was on his way to the Holy Land to take the embalmed heart of his King Robert the Bruce

there.
