Dear parents and carers,

The last week has really shown what a fantastic and supportive parental community we have at Somers Park and Malvern Vale. An excellent parent workshop last Friday (report later in the letter), and then at the weekend, to have such a committed team of helpers sort out our school pond was just amazing. A special thanks to those volunteers who turned up to undertake this enormous task, leaving our pond area almost ready to be used by our pupils.

Malvern Vale Chinese New Year

It’s all about talk! Using discussion strategies

in Year 6.

Year 1 Parent workshop Last Friday, it was lovely to welcome in Year 1 parents for a reading workshop. The fantastic comments below are just some of those we received on the parent feedback forms- thank you- this means a lot to the teachers who really value your support. Feedback from parents:

Class 1DM ‘I found it a great insight into how the children are taught to read and write.’

‘Very interesting, informative and engaging. Well-balanced reading activities for children and adults.’

‘Really good to see how [my child] is taught and to have him teach me.’

‘Such a great opportunity to see what [my child] gets up to in his class and to gain tips to improve his reading.’ Class 1JR

‘Found it was really supportive on what I need to do at home with [my child].’

‘It was great to see how to work in partnership to read together, to see the process as used in school.’

‘Very good and enjoyable, with a sense of humour.’

‘Really enjoyable and inclusive. Lovely to see how [my child] learns.’
