Welcome everyone to a new year at Greenhill Estate!

2017 is going to be an exciting year in many ways. For

those of you that have been here at Hillside for some time,

you have seen several changes already over the past few

years, some of which you may have been happy about,

and some not so much! However – on behalf of the

Directors and myself may I say that 2017 will see Hillside

at Figtree and Greenhill Manor evolve; will update its look,

and will endeavour to maintain the high standard of

excellence in aged care that we have become known for

in the Illawarra. Having a mother in aged care myself, I

know what is important to me. Wanting the best for your

loved one when entrusting us with their care is something

we as children don’t take lightly!

I have already had the opportunity to meet with many of

you and I encourage you all to talk to both myself and

Janine regarding your concerns. As the Care Manager

for both Hillside and Greenhill Manor, Janine travels

between both sites several times a day, and is primarily

responsible for the care of the residents. For myself, I

oversee all aspects of both facilities, including the

operational side, financial, processes and procedures,

staffing and of course the care of our residents as well.

I look forward to continuing to meet with all families and

visitors over the coming months, as well as welcoming

Care Manager’s Report

Well I’ll start with the old cliché “Doesn’t time fly!”. Well it has for me having been working for Greenhill Estate for a month already. For those of you that I haven’t met yet, my name is Janine Holmes and I am the Care Manager for both Hillside at Figtree and Greenhill Manor. Having heard so much about Hillside and living locally, meant that this was a great opportunity for me, and whilst Barbara will not be around as often, you will still see her on her regular visits in her new role. For now she is having a well earned holiday. So what’s changed?

As with anything in life – that old adage “nothing stays the same” is so true. People come and go, and with all the best intentions in the world, systems we put in place, may not always work and things have to change again! Aged Care is one of those industries that is ever evolving, whether legislation enforces big changes, or whether it’s a simple in house change, be assured that it’s always with the resident in mind, to ensure you are provided with the best care possible. So what changes are happening here?

Some changes are small and unseen, or done in the background, some will be more noticeable. As explained in the Resident and Representative Meeting at Hillside recently, you will see some changes relating to our name, logo and of course the long awaited staff uniforms! For Greenhill Manor we have just installed key pads on the external entrances enabling ease of access for all visitors. Our Greenhill Channel is up and running, just go to channel 90 on your televisions to see the menu and the activities of the day. Our Conservatory has new furniture and a temporary coffee machine until our new one arrives shortly. Umbrellas will also be delivered next week for the Courtyard outside the Duchess Salon. We have employed new staff starting next week and new activities are being planned for next month including golf and cooking! I would also like to thank Mark North for engineering “golf hole cups” to allow us to turn our Lodge courtyard into a putting green. With more ingenious ideas being discussed we are confident you will see new and exciting activities coming soon. So if you have any ideas please let us know. So please don’t be alarmed by change, new faces bring new ideas and as they say “A change is as good as a rest”! So I hope you’ll join me in embracing the changes, and I look forward to my new role and getting to know all of you. Thank you

Staff Profile

Kim Grainger

Hello there, My name is Kim Grainger and I am the Team Leader at Hillside. I have been working in aged care for 9 years and thoroughly enjoy this line of work. I have specialised in working with residents with Dementia during this time at both IRT and Villa Maria. I enjoy making the residents feel at home and ensuring they are living their life to the fullest. I grabbed the chance to further my career as a Team Leader at Hillside and I have now been here 8 months. I have a terrific relationship with all residents. I am very resident focus and nothing is ever a bother for me so don’t ever hesitate to ask me for anything. You are all lovely residents and have made my employment here at Hillside all that more pleasurable. I look forward to what the year has installed for us.

Racheal Dougherty

Hi my name is Racheal I am the Receptionist at Hillside Figtree. I have been working at Greenhill Estate since May 2016 and before working at Hillside I worked as a Legal Secretary in Canberra. I love having a chat with all the family members and residents at Hillside. My favourite part is that this is a community and seeing the residents every day you do feel like you are a part of their family. I enjoy having a joke and a laugh with residents and families and if I can end every day seeing a resident with a smile on their face, it makes my day, and is the reason why I love working in aged care. If there is anything I can help with please feel free to email myself at [email protected] or phone 42395400.

Hillside and Greenhill Manor Leisure and Lifestyle Update

Hillside

My name is Sue New and I am the Leisure and Lifestyle Assistant at Hillside.

have lived in Camden all my life. I worked in the aged care/ disability sector

for 4 years, and prior to that I was a golf instructor. I am currently completing

my Bachelor in dementia care. I started at Hillside four months ago on work

placement before taking up a position as a Leisure and Lifestyle Assistant.

Linzy is currently on holidays so I am very busy maintaining this month’s

calendar. Due to the extreme heat condition, we haven’t been able to take clients out on their

scenic bus trips, but hopefully weather permitting we’ll be out on the road next week. At Hillside,

this month residents have enjoyed a full program with 3 birthdays, Chinese New Year, and

Valentine’s celebrations, as well as the popular activities of bingo, find a word, walking group,

happy hour, pancake making and lots more. We’ve enjoyed 2 concerts – Happy Beats on

Valentine ’s Day and Wrinkles and Rockers. Our choir are back practicing and although a little

rusty at first, we are now getting back in the rhythm.

The sunshine group have enjoyed painting, music therapy and concerts, with some new ideas being looked at for next month, examples being pet therapy, high school petting zoo where they’ll be able to interact with the animals and the students.

The Lighter Side

When I'm an old lady, I'll live with each kid,

And bring so much happiness just as they did.

I want to pay back all the joy they've provided.

Returning each deed! Oh, they'll be so excited!

When I'm an old lady and live with my kids.

I'll write on the walls with reds, whites and blues,

And I'll bounce on the furniture wearing my shoes.

I'll drink from the carton and then leave it out.

I'll stuff all the toilets and oh, how they'll shout!

When I'm an old lady and live with my kids.

When they're on the phone and just out of reach,

I'll get into things like sugar and bleach.

Oh, they'll snap their fingers and then shake their head,

When I'm an old lady and live with my kids.

When they cook dinner and call me to eat,

I'll not eat my green beans or salad or meat,

I'll gag on my okra, spill milk on the table,

And when they get angry I'll run if I'm able!

When I'm an old lady and live with my kids.

I'll sit close to the TV, through channels I'll click,

I'll cross both eyes just to see if they stick.

I'll take off my socks and throw one away,

And play in the mud 'til the end of the day!

When I'm an old lady and live with my kids.

And later in bed, I'll lay back and sigh,

I'll thank God in prayer and then close my eyes.

My kids will look down with a smile slowly creeping,p

And say with a groan, "She's so sweet when she's sleeping!"
