Dear Fellow Brother Knights,
As a tribute to Archbishop Duke Council 6855, the Knights of Columbus
saw themselves in a very inspiring evening’s celebration of its 35th
year
anniversary last October 22nd
, 2011 with our Worthy State Deputy Wil
Wilmot as our Keynote Speaker. Coinciding with this, was the Awards
Ceremony in recognition and appreciation of faithful and exceptional
services of members and actively participating spouses. Past Grand Knights
(living and deceased) were also recognized in gratefulness of their
Leadership during their term of service.
We just completed today, our weekend Membership ‘BLITZ’ Recruitment
Drive and I thank the Membership Recruitment Team, the VIP Group
(Very Important Proposers Club) and the Pulpit Announcers for a
continued Team Effort in achieving the membership growth of the Order.
Alongside with the BLITZ, a group of our Members were busy with
The Pennies for Heaven Wheelbarrow Drive, proceeds of which goes to
support our Vocation Program.
This month of November, let us remember our deceased brother knights
who have gone before us. In their honour, there will be a 9:00am
Necrology Mass this Sunday, November 06, 2011 at St. Paul Parish.
Widows of our Council are our honoured guests in the mass and Brunch
Reception which will be held at Abercorn Inn.
I urge you to please partake on this event.
Vivat Jesus !

The Urgency of Buying Long Term Care Insurance
There are very few people who do not have a “long term care experience” somewhere in their
family – a loved one in a nursing home facility, or a family member being cared for at home
because of advancing age, a disability or both. If you have heard or undergone this situation, you
know firsthand the catastrophic effects these events can have on a family, crossing all generations.
What you may not know about is the urgency of taking action. The ability to buy long-term care
insurance is based on your health. Putting the decision off, “waiting until next year” or otherwise
dragging your feet can be problematic. You never know when your health could change or make
you ineligible for coverage. In addition, the required premium commitment increases every year
with your age.
When you make the decision to talk about LTC, come right to the Knights of Columbus. In
addition to providing life insurance, disability income insurance and guaranteed retirement
products to our members and their families, we also have a very competitive long-term care
product. Since entering this market in 2000, nearly 30,000 LTC policies have been sold to K of C
members and their wives. While some companies in this line of business have had difficulty (or
stopped selling the product altogether), our product continues to perform well with no premium
increases on existing policies.
I can help you select the plan that’s right for you and meets your budget. I can show you several
different options – facility only coverage, home care, a combination of both. I urge you to not delay.
I’m at 778-837-2317 or [email protected]. Call me – let’s talk.

Web Self-Serve phase of Appointment Management Solution
The facts:
The Web Self-Serve (WSS) phase of the Appointment Management Solution (AMS) launches
Sept. 12.
WSS is designed to allow whole blood donors to do the following through blood.ca:
o Register their account with Canadian Blood Services through a secure website,
o Book and manage their appointments online,
o Change their demographic information and
o Advise us of their contact preferences, i.e. phone or e-mail.
 Implementation will involve three phases:
Week 1: available only to employees to try out and stabilize the system
Week 2-4: publicly available via blood.ca but not promoted
Week 5: promoted through fully integrated marketing plan
WSS can be accessed at: donatenow.blood.ca (please share this info with employees who
don’t have access to intranet)
Employees who book through WSS are encouraged to share feedback about what issues
require attention. Direct feedback to: [email protected].
Improvements to AMS on the way
Project team has been introducing upgrades and patches to AMS since it went live
Three outstanding improvements were identified by staff after the initial rollout which require
addressing:
1. Ability to replicate event schedules,
2. Several improvement requests to support apheresis processes including different views
for staff and
3. Reduction in number of appointments impacted by changes through ESS.
These priorities will be addressed as part of an effort to further enhance AMS.
The AMS user group (with representatives from across the country,) will come together to
review and provide input on proposed solutions by end of Sept.
Schedule of future releases will be established and timing of each improvement will be
slated into these releases.
If you have any further questions regarding the information contained in this memo, please
contact clinic services staff or volunteer resources contact
