Mr. Charles Evers1922-2020

A disciplined advocate of nonviolence on the front lines in the 1960s movement for racial justice, Mr. Vivian was a Baptist minister and a member of Dr. King’s inner circle of advisers. He was the national director of some 85 local affiliate chapters of the S.C.L.C. Reverend Vivian received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, from President Barack Obama in 2013.

“Leadership is found in the action to defeat that which would defeat you… You are made by the struggles you choose.”

The older brother of slain civil rights activist Medgar Evers, Charles Evers picked up his sibling’s mantle leading black voter registration efforts in Mississippi in the 1960s. His dedication to the Civil Rights Movement propelled him into politics. Initially a Democrat, he went on to declare himself an Independent and later a Republican. Mr. Evers was elected the first black mayor of a mixed-race Mississippi town since Reconstruction - Fayette, MS.

“We’re not going to do to the white people what they’ve done to us,” Mr. Evers told The Washington Post after his election. “We’re going to have law and order and justice. We’ve got to prove to this country we can work together. I know we can.”

“When you see something that is not right, not fair, not just, you have to speak up. You have to say something; you have to do something.”

Recognized as one of the “Big Six” leaders of the Civil Rights Movement, Lewis was one of the planners and a keynote speaker at the “March on Washington” in 1963. Elected to Congress in 1986, he represented Georgia’s Fifth Congressional District. He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Martin Luther King, Jr. Non-Violent Peace Prize; the NAACP Spingarn Medal; the John F. Kennedy “Profile in Courage Award” for lifetime achievement and the National Education Association Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Award.

Reverend Joseph Lowery1921 - 2020

Known affectionately as the “Dean” of the Civil Rights Movement, Reverend Lowery was a part of pivotal moments in the nation’s history – from early Civil Rights struggles to the inauguration of the country’s first black president. Lowery helped coordinate the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott, the non-violent movement that desegregated the city’s public transportation and led to the formation of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Even in his 90s, Lowery’s fervor never dimmed. In 2009, President Barack Obama awarded Lowery the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

Todd Webb J.ToddWebbisanAmericanswithDisabilitiesAct(ADA)programAnalystintheFederalHighwayAdministration(FHWA)OfficeofCivilRights.Inhisrole,hesupportstheNationalADAProgram,ensuringthatindividualswithdisabilitieshaveanequalopportunitytousethepublicrights-of-wayinthetransportationsystem.HisresponsibilitiesincludeoverseeingtheintakeandclosureofADA/Section504complaintsandprovidingtechnicalassistancetoCivilRightsSpecialists.

BeforejoiningFHWA,Mr.WebbwastheADATitleII/Section504CoordinatorattheDelawareDepartmentofTransportation(DelDOT).Inthatrole,hemanagedthestatewideADAprogramforDelDOT.Hisresponsibilitiesincludedmonitoringthepublicright-of-waytransitionplan,investigatingandreportingonexternalADA/Section504complaints,providingADAtechnicalandprogrammaticguidanceduringallphasesofprojects,andmonitoringDelDOT’sservices,programs,andactivitiesensuringthatindividualswithdisabilitiesweren’tbeingdiscriminatedagainst.Inadditiontothatrole,healsoservedastheProjectSEARCHatDelDOTBusinessLiaison,whichisaschooltoworktransitionprogramforyoungadultswhohaveintellectualanddevelopmentaldisabilities.Mr.WebbalsoservedastheChairpersonfortheStateCouncilforPersonswithDisabilitiesinDelawarewhereheworkedwithdisabilityadvocatesandStateagencypolicymakerstoensurethatindividualswithdisabilitieswereempoweredtobecomefullyintegratedwithinthecommunity.

ThroughouthisnineyearswithDelDOT,Mr.Webbheldseveralpositions,whichincludedADAComplianceSpecialist,LandSurveyingSpecialist,andHighwayConstructionInspector.HeservedontheStandardConstructionDetailsCommittee,PedestrianAccessibilityStandardsCommitteeandAdvisoryCouncilonWalkabilityandPedestrianAwarenesswhichfocusedonreducingpedestriandeathswithintheright-of-way.Priortobecomingapublicservant,Mr.Webbstartedhisprofessionalcareerintheconstructionindustryasadesignerandprojectmanager.Mr.WebbreceivedaBachelorofArtsinEducationfromCoastalCarolinaUniversity.
