EXECUTIVE SESSION
The School Board of Levy County met in Executive Session this 11
th day of June, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. with Board
Chairman Brad Etheridge, Paige Brookins, Chris Cowart, Cameron Asbell, Ashley Clemenzi and Board Attorney
David Delaney present.
Expulsion Hearings: The Board heard information regarding a recommendation for expulsion. After the School
Administrator, Mickey Ebert had given testimony; the following action was taken by the Board.
Student 19-24: (student, parents and grandmother present) After discussion from the Board Members, school
administrator, student and parents, Cameron Asbell moved to approve the recommendation of the Superintendent
to expel the student for the 2019-2020 SY without educational services, second by Ashley Clemenzi, motion
carried.
REGULAR SESSION
6:00 p.m.
The School Board of Levy County met in Regular Session this 11th day of June, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. with Board
Chairman Brad Etheridge, Paige Brookins, Chris Cowart, Cameron Asbell, Ashley Clemenzi and Board Attorney
David Delaney present.
Adoption of Agenda: Board Chairman said for good cause, he asked that the Agenda CA be amended as follows:
Remove the 2019-2020 Dell Graham, P.A., contract and the three (3) 2019-2020 SY School Resource Officer (SRO)
contracts for further review and be re-submitted for approval at the June 25th Board meeting. Chris Cowart moved to
amend and approve the agenda, second by Paige Brookins, motion carried.
Welcome Visitors: Board Chairman Brad Etheridge welcomed all the visitors and asked if anyone from the audience
would like to address the Board. Linda Cooper, Media, had three questions for the Board. Board Attorney David
Delaney said this is the time for visitors to address the Board with comments, but not with questions for the Board to
respond to instantly. He informed her she could ask her questions, email them to the Board and they can research the
information and respond in a timely manner.
Request Approval to Advertise to Adopt/Amend School Board Policy: Julia Oberst reviewed Board Policy 4.141:
Wellness Policy and Plan and informed the Board there were no changes, but it is required that the policy be reviewed
and advertised annually. She said this policy will be adopted/amended at the July 22, 2019 Board Meeting. After
discussion Cameron Asbell moved to approve to advertise School Board Policy 4.141 – Wellness Policy and Plan,
second by Ashley Clemenzi, motion carried.
2019-2020 Student Code of Conduct: Superintendent reviewed the changes to the2019-2020 Code of Conduct with
the Board. After discussion, Paige Brookins moved to approve the 2019-2020 Student Code of Conduct, second by
Chris Cowart, motion carried.
Designation of FSBA 2019-2020 Legislative Representative / Alternate: Superintendent Edison said this is the
time of year to elect our FSBA Legislative Committee Representative and Alternate for the 2019-2020 SY. After
discussion, Paige Brookins moved to appoint Chris Cowart as the 2019-2020 FSBA Legislative Representative and
Brad Etheridge as the Alternate, seconded by Cameron Asbell, motion carried. Chris Cowart and Brad Etheridge
accepted to serve on the committee.
Approval of Minutes: Chris Cowart moved to approve the minutes of the May 28, 2019 Board meeting, second by
Cameron Asbell, motion carried.

motion carried.

Superintendent’s Comments/Recommendations: Superintendent Jeffery Edison shared the 2017-2018 Florida
School District Annual Energy Cost Information report and the Annual Plan Maintenance and Operations Cost
Information report with the Board showing the energy costs and maintenance costs for Levy County compared to the
other counties within Florida. He said several Levy County people and students are at the State FFA Convention in
Orlando this week and will be receiving awards for their accomplishments in FFA. Mr. Edison distributed the Florida
Standards Assessments (FSA) district report of Levy County Schools for Spring 2018 and compared the scores to the
2019 results. Mr. Edison said CKS, WWCS, WES and the District increased their scores; CES and BES remained the
same; and YTS decreased in their score. He said overall, Levy County’s District Score increased from 48 to 52, which
is a 4% increase. He said several teachers have been working on the new report card and will be bringing it before the

Board soon. He congratulated Devyn Chorvat, Stacy Drummond, Kelley Hoover, John Miller, Aimee Mitchell, Jodi
Nagel, Tanya Taylor, Gabriela Oliveira, Michelle Ruiz, Robert Stark, Nicole Thornton, Aimee Watkins, Karen Welch
and Erin Williams for successfully completing the NEFEC’s Aspiring Leader’s Program Cohort 9 Completion 60-hour
program. Mr. Edison said he attended the KG graduations and they will be the graduating class of 2031.
Board Comments: Paige Brookins said she’s excited about attending the FSBA Convention next week, working with
the other counties and hopes to be able to attend the FFA Convention in Orlando. Chris Cowart agreed that Levy
County was doing very well at the FFA Convention and congratulated all the students. He asked Marla Hiers where we
are on the hiring status. Mrs. Hiers said we’re hiring approximately half the amount as last year and some of the
schools are almost full. Mr. Cowart said he’s looking forward to the FSBA Convention and working with other Board
Members. He thanked the reporters for spreading news of the Board meetings. Cameron Asbell said the Levy County
employees were recently recognized with pins of years of service and complimented Marla Hiers for getting the pens
for the employees. He thanked Suzette Cook, reporter for the Chiefland Citizen, for the great coverage of all the
graduations. Ashley Clemenzi said she enjoyed the graduations, but thought the CMHS Valedictorian’s speech was the
best she has ever heard. She said this is YTS first full week at the FFA Convention and they are really enjoying it. Brad
Etheridge said his son is working the food bank in Orlando, while attending the FFA Convention and is learning a
whole new experience. He said he enjoys seeing students at graduation after knowing what some of them have to go
through to succeed for graduation.
There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned for the Board to go into
