President’s Message
We have had a successful year and show, many thanks to all
who helped and attended! A special Thank You to John Puliz
for the use of his event tent; this was a wonderful addition to
the show allowing a gathering place from the elements as well
as several activities. The addition of the youth passport
program was a success; it was nice to see families going
around the entire show hunting for particular displays and
gaining knowledge about our hobby. Prizes were donated by
the farm and club members. Grand Prizes were cool BMX style
bicycles made in the USA. Tammy Spadoni, Cindy Neitzel and
the ladies put together a year long plant sale from donated
cuttings and pots that turned out to be a great time and a
good venture, their support is much appreciated! Thanks to
the Feature Tractor folks for bringing out a fine display of
Moline Equipment and a special Thank you to Ken Christensen
for bringing us the Fitch Tractor; we had many very nice
displays, including The Beeler’s entire line up of Economy
Engines. An addition to our show this year was the live auction
and Darrel Durbin really did an outstanding job as auctioneer..
In all, It was an impressive show! It takes time effort and
resources to attend and to host a show and everyone’s
support this year was outstanding . I’m honored and I didn’t
name everyone, but I am very appreciative of your support
See you at the meeting! Dale

Ever since humanity has been around, the thing that has made us different is we have something that, for want of a better word, is the human spirit. It is said that “necessity is the mother of invention.” Maybe. But it is the human spirit that makes it happen. The extreme love someone feels or the sacrifice one makes for someone or something, that too is part of the human spirit. However, there is a bizarre or even a borderline funny thing about the human spirit. You hit it, the human spirit, and it hurts. It hurts physically. Laugh at or ridicule it, it hurts. Hurts emotionally. Take something from it, the human spirit, it hurts. It hurts mentally and psychologically. But yet, after all of these things, the human spirit is so strong that against all odds, against all logic, against all hope, it fights back. It becomes stronger and better than it was before. That is one of the reasons it, the human spirit, remains so vital. Always. But not this time, not this month, not this year, maybe never again. Someone was taken from us on 7 July 2016: Gene Brady. He was truly one of the good guys. He cared about other people, the hobby, all things. He cannot ever be replaced. I know you’ve all heard stories about the things he has done for people. A small example: Back in ’96 I was taking an engine to the National Show in Union Gap. I was showing it to Gene at an earlier show and he was making fun of the oiler on it. I explained that I could not find a real oiler and had no idea where to find one. I looked. “Let me see if I can find one. It has to be sized to the engine.” He comes back with a #6 Lunkenheimer, just gives it to me. At the National Show, I was talking to one of the wheeler-dealer guys. He says, “Nice engine. I even like the oiler.” “Yeah, I got it from Gene Brady.” Astonished, he says, “Brady never sells anything, ever.” “Oh no,” I answered, “he didn’t sell it to me, he just up and give it to me.” A shocked look resulted. I personally will never sell this engine, not because of the engine but because of the oiler. It would be sacrilegious to separate an oiler from an engine that belong together. On Friday night before the Shelton show of 2016, I was walking across the show grounds. I had just opened a beer, probably. About 50 feet to my right someone named John, who had a beer in his hand, lifted his beer in the air. I reciprocated his motion and spoke in a loud voice, “To Gene.” I did not hear what if anything he replied but knowing John, he probably would have replied, “Amen, brother.” Several times John said, “You know, you’re my brother.” Maybe. Although I feel closer to him than I ever have to my brothers. Is there even a word for that? What we want to do is for everyone to have a synchronized toast, “To Gene.” He more than deserves it. However, there is one shining light in all of this, if we would remember the final line of sonnet forty-three from “Sonnets From The Portuguese”. It applies to us all, especially Gene.
If this is called a Eulogy, I will never write another as I find it too emotionally painful. Brian Edwards
