Examination of Candidates

BROS. JOHN HENRY ASTOR, ASA MANLEY BROWN, AND CHARLES WALTER SAMPSON were examined on the

lecture of the Fellowcraft Degree and declared proficient.

Third Degree

The Lodge was changed to the Third Degree, and after the first section was conferred on all the candidates, Bro. JOHN HENRY

ASTOR was raised in short form by the Senior Warden, and Bro. ASA MANLEY BROWN was raised in short form by the Junior Warden.

The Lodge was then called from labor to refreshment for dinner.

(Note: if there is a speaker or other entertainment during the dinner hour it should be recorded here.)

Business Meeting

The Lodge was called from refreshment to labor again at 7:30 P.M. for the regular business meeting. The records of the regular

meeting on May 1, 1958, and the special meeting on May 22, 1958, were read and approved as amended.

Balloting

With the reports of two of the Committees of Investigation being full and favorable, separate secret ballots were taken and

EARLE JOHN SIMPSON and GEORGE CADMAM JONES were elected to receive the degrees.

The report of the Committee of Investigation on the application of BRUCE HORACE ALLEN was not unanimous. Two of the

Committee reporting favorably and one reporting unfavorably. Three ballots were taken at the discretion of the Master, all of which were

not clear and BRUCE HORACE ALLEN was declared rejected for the degrees.

EXHIBIT 1, continued

With the report of the Committee of Investigation on the application of Bro. JAMES LAURENCE THOMAS for affiliation being

full and favorable, a ballot was taken and he was declared elected to membership. Bro. Thomas being in the ante-room, was escorted into

the Lodge room and introduced to the members. He then signed the By-laws.

With the report of the Committee of Investigation on the application of Bro. JOSHUA WHITE for affiliation being full and

favorable, a ballot was taken and he also was declared elected to membership. But since Bro. White still holds membership in a Lodge in

Iowa, he was instructed that he would have to secure his demit from his Lodge in Iowa and deposit it with our Secretary before he would

be entitled to sign the By-Laws of Composite Lodge, because Iowa does not permit dual membership.

Reinstatement

The next ballot to be taken was on the petition of Bro. WALTER EDMOND KNOWLES for reinstatement; he having been

suspended for non-payment of dues on July 10, 1953. Since his suspension was less than five years old, his reinstatement depended on his

getting a majority favorable ballot of the members present. The official count was taken showing 63 members present, thus making it

necessary for there to be at least 32 yeas cast. Ballots were distributed for the required secret vote, 45 votes were collected, 25 being in the

affirmative and 20 being in the negative. Failing to receive the required 32 favorable votes, Bro. WALTER EDMOND KNOWLES was

declared rejected for reinstatement and the Secretary was instructed to issue to Bro. Knowles a Certificate of Good Standing dated June 5,

1958 as required by the Grand Constitutions.

Honorary Member

A secret ballot was taken on the nomination of M.W. JOSEPH EARL PERRY for Honorary Membership. The ballot was clear

and he was declared elected as an Honorary Emeritus Member of the Lodge.

Demits

The Secretary announced that upon their written requests, and they being clear on the books, demits had been issued to Bro.

HENRY JAMES GORDON dated May 10, 1958, and to Bro. WILLIAM HARVEY JONES dated June 1, 1958. Bro. ALLAN CROSBY,

who had been suspended June 4, 1940 for nonpayment of dues, paid up his arrears on May 20, 1958 and requested a demit. In accordance

with Sec. 507 of the Grand Constitutions, the demit was issued under the date of May 20, 1958.

Suspension

Upon recommendation of the Finance Committee it was Voted: That Bro. VANCE ELIOT STEDMAN be suspended for non-

payments of dues. Such suspension to take effect July 10, 1958, if his dues were not received by the Secretary on or before that date.

Memorandum

DATE: June 10, 20___

TO: ALL SECRETARIES

FROM: R.W. TUBAL CAIN, GRAND TREASURER

RE: FINAL G.L.D. INVOICE AND ADJUSTMENT FORM

________________________________________________________________________

Final Grand Lodge Dues Invoice for 20___ is attached.

The changes that have been implemented for 20___, by allowing for the deduction of affiliated and

prepaid life members at the beginning of the year ( September 1, 20___) has resulted in a shorter and.

much simpler ending deduction form.

Affiliated Members -- No additional deductions allowed, since all members must have been affiliated

prior to September 1, 20___. Deduction was already allowed for all affiliated members on the original

listing.

Prepaid Life Members - The only additional deductions that will be allowed, are any new prepaid

certificates dated September 1, 20___ that have been issued since September 1, 20___ and not included

on the original listing. Those new certificates are listed on this form.

Deaths, Suspensions and Remissions - We have preprinted the deaths and suspensions reported to us

as of the date of the form. Please review the deaths and delete any member who had paid dues before

death. Add any additional deaths and any suspensions and all remissions.

Special Instructions - Claim for prior 20___ year will be accepted on a separate request on your Lodge

Letterhead. This would be for members suspended owing two years dues etc. Please give Brothers name

and date of action. Do not make this request before sending 20___ G.L.D. form.

Also, if a situation arises after filing your G.L.D. form that a member is suspended or dies owing 20___

dues, submit a request for a refund on your Lodge Letterhead.

We hope this method has helped your Lodge Cash Flow.

Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

ALL COMPLETED G.L.D. FORMS AND FINAL

PAYMENTS ARE DUE ON AUGUST 1, 20___

Statement of Beliefs

To be filed with the Membership Committee

before an application is issued.

To the Applicant for Membership:

You may know very little about Freemasonry, so before a lodge accepts your signed membership petition, it

must inform you of certain aspects of the institution that may affect your decision to seek membership in the Masonic

fraternity.

1. Freemasonry has always required that a man should apply for membership entirely of his own free will and

accord. You should not apply as a result of any curiosity about the fraternity, but because you have a favorable

opinion of Freemasonry, a desire for knowledge and a sincere commitment to be of service to your fellowmen.

2. Freemasonry is a fellowship of friends and Brothers who meet together for fraternal relations and

association. This fellowship is founded upon a system of morality based on a belief in the existence of a Supreme

Being; no atheist or agnostic can be made a Mason. Freemasonry teaches the Brotherhood of Man, the Immortality of

the Soul and the duty every man has to his god, his house of worship, his country, his neighbor and himself. It

interferes with neither religion nor politics, but endeavors to bring out man's highest and noblest qualities. The aim of

the true Mason is to promote a brotherly feeling among men and to help the distressed and afflicted to the best of his

ability.

3. The purpose of Freemasonry is moral and spiritual improvement, not the gaining of any material advantage.

It should be clearly understood and remembered that a man should not seek membership in Freemasonry in the hope of

material gain or advancement; admission must not be sought for mercenary or selfish motives. A man who joins for

those reasons will be disappointed.

4. It cannot be emphasized too strongly that Freemasonry is not a benefit society. Membership will not confer

upon any member any right to sick benefits, death benefits, burial expenses, education of your children or support of

your dependents. Failure to understand this has sometimes caused families to hold false impressions which have led to

disappointment, misunderstanding and embarrassment. The practice of charity is, however, a fundamental virtue taught

in Freemasonry, limited in its practice by the means available to the individual member and Masonic organization.

5. Lodge members bear the responsibility for financially supporting the cost of Lodge operations and functions.

An applicant must, therefore, be in a position to meet his obligations for the degree fees and annual dues without

material handicap or detriment to his family or dependents.

6. Loyalty to one's country is an essential qualification in Freemasonry, and only those men who cheerfully

conform to the laws of his country, state and community may join the fraternity. Disloyalty to the country and its laws,

in any form, is inconsistent with the Masonic teachings.

7. The aims of Freemasonry are noble and unselfish. The fraternity deserves and expects of each member a sin-

cere interest and faithful service to Freemasonry of its members. Membership will make certain demands upon your time

and energies. Attendance at Masonic meetings and contributing to Masonic operations and charitable initiatives should

be considered a duty and a privilege.

8. Each member is required to obligate himself to secrecy in purely Masonic matters, such as the ritual, means of

recognition, names of candidates, results of balloting on membership petitions.

If after serious consideration of the foregoing you feel sincerely disposed to seek to membership in the Masonic

fraternity, sign this statement of personal beliefs, after which the senior officers of the Masonic lodge may accept your

petition for membership and begin the process of bringing your petition to the full membership of the Lodge.

I have read, understood and accept the forgoing.
