The Exodus Story: God’s Holiness
To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain. Exodus 24:17For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. Deuteronomy 4:24The sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling grips the godless: “Who of us can dwell with the consuming fire? Who of us can dwell with everlasting burning?”Isaiah 33:14…For our “God is a consuming fire.” Hebrews 12:29
The Exodus Story: Moses’ Prayer
You are holy and we don’t deserve you, but…• You have chosen us• You want us to reflect you to the rest of the world
• We need your full presence to do that
“Show me your glory”
Our Stories: Are we settling?
We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.
Our Stories: Indwelt by God “I have come that they may have life
and have it to the full!” John 10:10
