  DAY TO DAY ITINERARY

May 24 ‐ Flight from Vancouver to Reykjavik, arrival on May 25.   May 25 ‐ Transfer from airport to Ocean Diamond secure luggage area                 Travel to the Blue Lagoon for a wonderful relaxing time in the fabulous lagoon. Embark on your home for the next 10 days

May 26  ‐ Stykkisholmur is the starting point of your adventures on the Snaefellnes Penninsula.  Often called “Iceland in Miniature”                    because of its diverse landscapes, the area is home to bird‐rich Breidafjordur Bay and Snaefellsjokull glacier, which sits atop                    a 700,000‐year old dormant volcano that was featured in the Jules Verne novel “Journey to the Center of the Earth.                   There are several excursions, my suggestions would be a bus tour around the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. **

May 27 ‐ Isafjördur is an idyllic town in the Westfjords region. This secluded peninsula is connected to the mainland by only a narrow strip                  of land and includes many roadless areas where cars have never been.  The landscape includes jaw‐dropping views of dramatic                   fjords carved by ancient glaciers, sheer table mountains that plunge into the sea and pristine North Atlantic vegetation.                  Many excursion options with my suggestion being a bus tour‐ Thingeyri and Dynjandi waterfall. **

May 28 ‐ Siglufjördur/Grimsey Siglufjördur once was the hub of the global herring industry and now enjoying a rebirth in popularity.                   Uninhabited Grimsey Island is located about 25 miles off the mainland on the Artic Circle. The island harbors a variety of bird                   species including puffins, guillemots and gulls. The tour offered here is the Herring Museum

May 29 – Akureyri ‐ My suggested tour today would be the Myvatn Major tour where you can enjoy one of the most beautiful spots in                    northern Iceland, where the schizophrenic landscape looks as if “heaven and hell” have clashed.  One side of the lake features                   rugged volcanic remnants, while the other side is blessed with lush vegetation and a varied bird life. **

May 30 ‐ Husavik  is located at Skjalfandi Bay. The town’s off shore waters are home to 15 different whale species, as well as dolphins and                   30 variety of birds. Three tours are offered today.

May 31  ‐ Seydisfjördur is home of the east fjords nestled between the sea and the steep mountains. Three tours are offered.

June 01 ‐ Djupivogur is the starting point to the Vatnajökull glacier. My pick for today would be a bus tour to the Glacier                   Lagoon/Jökulsárlón. **

June 02 ‐ Vestmannaeyjar (Westman Islands) is located off Iceland’s south coast. Surtsey Island emerged from the sea in 1963 and is one                    of the youngest land masses on earth. There are two excursions offered today

June 03 ‐ Reykjavik ‐ Disembark the Ocean Diamond and overnight stay in hotel.

Join me on the Golden Circle Classic to Discover Iceland’s most iconic natural and historical attractions.  Explore Pingvellir National Park, arguably the most important site in Iceland in terms of history, culture, and geology. A UNESCO World Site, Pingvellir National Park is home to Iceland’s largest natural lake and the place where the tectonic plates of North America and Eurasia split and drift apart.  At Gullfoss waterfall you can take a short walk down a pathway and get right up close to this powerful waterfall and feel the mist of the glacial water on your face.  The geothermal area is home to the geyser aster which all others are named, as well as the Strokkur hot spring, which blasts out water every few minutes up to 20 metres into the air.

June 04 ‐ Hang out on your own in Reykjavik or take an optional 2.5 hour city sight seeing tour of the capital.                    Transfer to the airport for your flight back to Vancouver.

** Please see attached sheet for detailed information and pricing about optional excursion.
