Grocery Store You're buying groceries and the
total is $20, but after store discounts and coupons your total is now $8.
You hand the cashier a $10 bill, and she gives you $12 in change, having thought that you gave her a $20.
Do you tell her, or do you pocket the $12?
DILEMMA
![Page 3: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/3.jpg)
Car Accident Driving to work you receive a text, anxiously
you read it and run into someone, which causes a multi car accident.
You get out of your car -- unhurt -- and see that the person you hit is dead.
Then, someone comes up to you frantically and says that she hit someone; in the chaos of the crash, she has convinced herself that she hit the person you hit.
Do you let her take the fall for you?
DILEMMA CONT.

NOW IMAGINE HOW A DEAF PERSON FEELS.

SHOULD THE DEAF BE TREATED ANY DIFFERENT
FROM YOU?
It would be unethical if you did.

ENCOURAGING INDIVIDUALS TO:
ADAPT TO SITUATIONS
DON’T LOOSE YOUR
INTEGRITY
![Page 10: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)

It’s practicing Proper Etiquette
There is no FORMULA for your actions
GOOD MANNERS
![Page 12: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
It’s simply showing RESPECT to others and yourself
One would need to make people feel comfortable by the way you behave and how they perceive you
COURTESY
![Page 13: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
There is no easy way to tell what the right thing to do is
The right thing is what a virtuous person would do
One who possess INTEGRITY
![Page 14: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
ACKNOWLEDGE & EXERCISE:
ETHICAL BEHAVIOR
![Page 15: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)

ETHICS AFFECT EVERYONE
Look at a business and those that are in authority, they have the power to help or harm people.
If the manager of a store paid his cleaning employee less than the going rate to clean his store, knowing exactly what the going rate is,
The Result: The employee could suffer serious financial implications or leave and find another position where he/she does not feel exploited.
![Page 17: Experiene with ethics and etiquette](https://reader035.vdocuments.net/reader035/viewer/2022062616/549825f3b47959a7498b498b/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
Is my decision a truthful one?
Is my decision fair to everyone affected?
Will it build goodwill for the organization?
Is the decision beneficial to all parties who have a vested interest in the outcome?
IT IS LIKELY THAT THE DECISION IS AN ETHICAL
ONE. IF YOU ANSWER “YES” TO ALL.

PERCEPTION
Etiquette is helping an elderly lady cross the street, not attacking her in the middle of the road and stealing her purse.
Think of others and how they perceive you
