The improvem ent of thestrength is a secondary effect, often not achiev-able for the l imited por t ion of thicknessinvolved by t he intervention and anyway oftenunrequired for the particular damage of themasonry. However, the possible combinatio n ofthis techn ique with re buildin g where bricks areparticularly damaged) and/or inject ions espe-cially for mult i-lea fmasonry walls having a hig hpercenta ge of voids in th eir inn er layer), canimprove the load carrying capacity of the damaged com-pressed walls and consequ ently reduce the cracking.The above-mentioned technique has been recentlyapplied on some historical structures located in Italy.Fig. 15 shows the critical cracking situation of one of theheaviest pillars orS. Sofia church in Padua; it can be seenthat reinforcement rings were necessary to reduce thefailure hazard. Fig. 16 shows a view of the rebar inserted
