explained.

Putting it simply, this event is the biggest event for Design and Technology education in Cornwall. In fact it’s the only event of it’s kind in the whole of the UK.

It’s an opportunity for Cornish schools and colleges to showcase the design coursework of their GCSE and Post 16 students.

The three day event takes place each summer and is hosted by University College Falmouth in their purpose built Design Centre at the Tremough Campus in Penryn.

The three day event includes:•Private view & Awards Ceremony•Open day for school visits•Open day for the general public.

originated.

The idea for the event was conceived by Richard Scott (DT Team Leader and AST at Richard Lander School) following the success of their school’s annual DT coursework show.

It quickly became clear the ‘Design Show-off’ at Richard Lander School made a enormous impact on students’ creativity, the quality of their project work and the respective grades they achieved.

This inspired Richard Scott to attempt to share this successful formula with others and develop a County wide event to represent all Cornish Secondary and Tertiary institutions.

Richard approached John Miller (then Director of Design at University College Falmouth) who helped the dream become reality.

exhibited.

In 2010, the work of over 400 students was exhibited by the 22 schools and colleges from around Cornwall which took part. Our aim is to get every GCSE and Post 16 centre on board on annually.

Each school or college is allocated exhibition space - it’s then up to them to display the work of their students.

Every exhibit is labelled with a pre-printed information card that introduces the student, their project, and the level they are working at, and UCF provide printed signage and invitations for the event.

Taking part in DESIGNED. IN CORNWALL is free of charge for Cornish schools and colleges. It is also free for school groups or the general public to visit.

visited.

In 2010 the event attracted over one thousand visitors over three days

The opening private view and awards ceremony to which all exhibitors and their families are invited, includes special guest design speakers. Invitations to the ceremony are also extended to teachers, head teachers, governors, local designers and manufacturers.

The following day has become known as Schools Day, when visiting school and college students tour the exhibits and Tremough Campus and take part in talks or events specifically for them.

Finally the exhibition is open for a day to the general public.
